Saban/Golding stressed all week, DO NOT OVER RUN the QB (Rush beyond the QB). If the OT is any good, not running past the QB and getting him from behind takes a speed rush off of the table. 31/41/15 were left with "setting the edge" or twist to the inside. UT did a great job of passing off on stunts. By design (our coaches and their coaches) took Wills strengths out of the game plan. I think a better choice would have been to let the dog have his head. Do whatever it takes to get to the QB and have a LB spy the QB.

Which LB you use to spy depends on what else you want him to do. HT is pretty good sideline to sideline but is not a run stuffer or a pass defender. Moody is a better run stuffer and better pass defender but not as good of an open field tackler (1-on-1 with the QB).

If the D-line is charged not to "over-run" the QB then Moody is the better choice. If 31/15/41 are charged to "Go Get the QB" then HT would be the better choice. Golding picked the worst of both options for the UT game.
