Generally you’re right, but the past two storms were significantly worse inside the levee compared to outside the levee.
Beta had 4-5 ft of water and Ida had 7-9 ft INSIDE the levee.

I have a real “camp” in Grand Isle that was lucky enough to survive Ida with moderate damage, but I am amazed at the people that spend $500k plus for places in Grand Isle and similar places. With insurance costs and the frequency/ferocity of hurricanes the last few years it seems like it’s just a matter of time. I love the coast but it’s getting tougher and tougher to justify the investment.
