Is a new bridge needed -absolutely yes, with proper planning for FUTURE traffic demands, including the arterial roads/streets and proper bypasses.

In the meantime, we have the infrastructure for today’s traffic. A route from I-12 to Port Allen via Airline NB, cross old bridge, and HWY 415 SB is a perfect inner loop. This route is approximately 17 miles, compared to 11 miles via I-10 and the new bridge.

To cut travel time (which is currently 28 mins) improvements to airline need to be made so that it will be more of a limited access roadway with service roads for local traffic.

I travel this route frequently. 28 minutes is on a good day. I think it’s a good plan IF you build overpasses at every intersection and eliminate all traffic signals. Otherwise you’ve got I49 through Lafayette all over again. And that’s a shite show from Willow Street to Pinhook.

You have to get the slow moving residents of NBR who appear to have zero sense of urgency and love to drive around at rush hour(s) out of the way to make your suggestion viable.
