NCAA is at fault for not going against it's desire to keep money (officially) out of recruiting because the tides were changing politically?
You sound principled.
Wut? First, if the NCAA was in fact "principled" this might have all been avoided. But they lacked the leadership and credibility to govern effectively.
And giving players a uniform stipend or payment is the exactly how you keep $$ out of recruiting. Their lack of judgement and foresight led to the wild-west nonsense we have today....where millions are tied directly to recruiting.

quote:I disagree. The NCAA is dumb in a lot of ways but the NIL has effectively made college football "pay to play", and out in the open, too.

quote:Stipends and direct payments of how much? You don't seem to realize that inches=miles. There's no way to do that uniformly without already giving away too much. The players would just demand more, saying that what they get paid isn't equitable to what they bring in for the schools.
And giving players a uniform stipend or payment is the exactly how you keep $$ out of recruiting.
Also, schools would have to give stipends to players for other sports (including women) that don't bring in any money at all. There are unintended consequences of going that route.
quote:Again, it is the government that opened the door here. Pinning everything on the NCAA is absurd.
