If you're running a billion dollar enterprise it's your business to read the tea leaves and protect what your interests. This wasn't hard to predict. NCAA very clearly screwed the pooch on this one.

Wut? First, if the NCAA was in fact "principled" this might have all been avoided. But they lacked the leadership and credibility to govern effectively.
And giving players a uniform stipend or payment is the exactly how you keep $$ out of recruiting. Their lack of judgement and foresight led to the wild-west nonsense we have today....where millions are tied directly to recruiting.
