Games are bigger when the audience builds attachments to them. Oregon and Utah are perfectly reasonable team but more fans have a built in interest in watching LSU and Florida playing because of their history
Most Arkansas fans I know freely acknowledge they get up more for games against Texas or OU than games against say Georgia or Clemson

I agree from a fan perspective....but this is about TV deals and playoffs.
What's on paper will have huge influences when talking TV deals.
And having Texas, OK, Bama, GA, Florida, LSU, etc... all slated to play each other every 4-5 years will be a big selling point.
