True but I think the are going to rotate the pods so everyone plays everyone within a 4 year period

Year 1
Pod A will play Pod B
Pod C will play Pod D

Year 2
Pod A will play Pod C
Pod B will play Pod D

Year 3
Pod A will play Pod D
Pod B will play Pod C

They could rotate every 2 years instead of 1 so it will allow home and home games on consecutive years.

Yes. But with or without the fixed opponents it still takes six years to complete home/away rotations through the whole conference

But we've been told historical rivalries were important. When there's not even a down side they might as well play them.

And do the home/away on consecutive years. It makes every opponent played into at least a two game series (and avoids changing the divisions literally every year)
