By creating a semifinal for the SEC championship game you give 2 of your top 4 an extra loss which hurts your chance of getting 3-4 teams in the playoffs

Hence why I said:

To recap:
2 teams playing for conference championship along with two 1-2 loss teams looking for an at-large bid.
So possibly 4 teams getting in the playoffs.
