What is unsafe about throwing a jump ball to one of the best wide receivers that year in man coverage?

You're exactly right. From what I understand, from the little I wanted to hear of it, Benjamin called the play, knew the hole was there in the
defense and exploited it. Looks like FSU then set up a I formation and Auburn bit on the run.

KB was on a mission to get into that gap and Auburn, despite Jimbo's CYA, did not know where the play was going.

Where was Davis supposed to go? Because Crablegs also threw a huge arc. Davis couldn't have jumped on it without knowing where it was going, KB knew where it was going and Davis didn't. For Davis it's like a soccer penalty kick, left? Right? Make a guess.

Not sure what was supposed to be done.

Auburn called a run defense. Had it been a pass defense maybe that gap is filled messing up the timing.

A sack would've forced a mini hail marry.

A run with a timeout was safer.
