Looks like another year of subpar recruiting.
Lulz. We are actually in the top groups of more top 100 players right now than at any point last cycle

"But, but, but! That new contract is going to help Gus on the recruiting trail!!!"
It absolutely helps & quite a few prospects have mentioned fact that they know Gus will still be there is a big positive for them
I just personally really like Deloach so would hate to lose him but not sure where he is on our board currently. Good chance we get one of Luke Deal/Jackson Lowe. If Deal goes Clemson means chances of us getting Lowe greatly increase

I am trying hard not to care about recruiting anymore, but I still read Paw's updates every week. I think losing Trey Hill last year really did me in. That was a bitter pill to swallow after believing he was all AU.
Hill hurt no doubt. Still pissed about that one but I think looking back that was more people overreacting to one game. Hill was all UGA for most his recruitment & then there was the moment where it looked like we had changed things. Still sucks tho. He would have seen field early for AU

Seems crazy to me they would lock that behind VIP because I don't think it's something someone would specifically pay to see but it gave people reasons to visit their site & possibly end up paying for it. But I guess they getting tired of everyone just looking at that & knowing the mood without actually having to pay to read any VIP stuff

Derick Hall, pass rusher from Mississippi: ‘I definitely love Coach Malzahn’ (SECCountry)
quote:
Mississippi pass rusher: ‘I definitely love Coach Malzahn’
Perhaps the easiest way to understand Derick Hall‘s interest in Auburn is how he reacts when you ask him the simplest question about the Tigers.
That fundamental question: What’s your interest?
“Oh man, Auburn,” Hall said to SEC Country.
Several Power 5 programs are captivated by the 6-foot-5, 210-pound outside linebacker prospect from Gulfport, Miss. Hall holds offers from Auburn, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Florida State, Arkansas, Tennessee and Vanderbilt, among others.
When he talks about Auburn, however, he drops the obligatory “oh man” before explaining further why the Tigers are so intriguing.
It starts with the man at the top.
“I’ve been there, it’s a great place, great people. I definitely love coach [Gus] Malzahn,” Hall said. “I’ve sat down and talked to coach for hours with my family. He’s just a great high-character guy. He’s all about the kids.”
Most programs view Hall as a pass-rushing outside linebacker type. Physically, Hall matches up nicely with what Auburn wants from its Buck position. According to Hall, that’s what Tigers coaches mentioned to him when they talked about position fit.
Hall likes the sound of that. He plays outside linebacker in a 3-4 defense at his high school. The thought of chasing after SEC quarterbacks appeals to him.
“It’s definitely rushing,” Hall said. “At my school, we play a 3-4, so I’m actually a true outside linebacker. So I’m covering all of that. I’m very good at rushing and making sure tackles in the open field.”
Hall recently trimmed his schools in consideration to eight: Auburn, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Florida State, Tennessee, Louisville, Arkansas and Vanderbilt. Within the next two months he’d like to cut it down to the programs recruiting him the hardest throughout the spring.
So far, that list consists of Auburn, Ole Miss and Mississippi State. Those three programs contact him on a daily basis and should be considered front-runners because of that added attention.
Hall plans to make a final decision this summer. When he does, Auburn will be one of the hats on the table, so to speak.
His conversation with Malzahn during his visit last month will be a big reason why. Hall wants to major in mechanical or chemical engineering, so his college degree is important to him. As it pertains to the academic side of things, one story Malzahn told him about Cam Newton made a lasting impression.
“He’d definitely want me to get that degree. He was talking about Cam Newton and when he went to Carolina [Panthers], he didn’t want to come back. Malzahn made him come back and get his degree,” Hall said. “Being able to come back and finish your degree is major. That’s something that I would want to get. If I go there, I know he’d make sure I’d get my degree.”
Hall is the No. 15-ranked outside linebacker in the Class of 2019 and the No. 216 overall prospect nationally.

Auburn (finally) offers safety prospect in its backyard
Central High School in Phenix City, Ala., has been a hotbed for football talent the last few years.
In the 2016 class, cornerback John Broussard (Auburn) and athlete Jamal Couch (Mississippi State) landed at SEC schools. Alabama landed linebacker Markail Benton in the 2017 class. The state’s No. 1 prospect, Justyn Ross, spurned the in-state schools for Clemson in the Class of 2018.
Central’s presence in the 2019 class will be no different.
Auburn’s most recent offer, in fact, went to a Central safety Ray Thornton.
Thornton has been on the radar of several college programs, including Auburn. Aside from Auburn, he has offers from Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Duke and South Florida — with several other programs scouting him. Auburn offered him Wednesday after hosting him on countless visits the last two years.
Central High prospects — whether they’re being recruited by Auburn or not — have been regular attendees of Tigers games, practices and recruiting events the last few years. The most recent example came the week before spring break when a handful of players from the team joined their high school coach for an Auburn spring practice.
Thornton was a part of that group.
He’s still waiting to hear about offers from other programs. Alabama, Florida, Clemson and Tennessee are the ones he hears from most. With Auburn’s most recent offer, expect it to be a busy spring for the 6-2, 200-pound safety who lives 30 minutes from the Plains.
Interesting prospect. Might end up another Atkinson. Comes in as a safety but eventually moves to LB

10 prospects ranked inside top 100 most likely to commit to Auburn (SECCountry)

This is a slight variation on an Auburn recruiting question of the day that I answered a few weeks ago. That version honed in on how Auburn’s top-100 recruiting presence compared to previous recruiting cycles. In this edition, let’s take a look at who among the top-100 prospects has a chance of landing with the Tigers.
Auburn already has one top-100 prospect committed, quarterback Bo Nix.
Could more follow?
Here are the likely candidates:

No. 7 Owen Pappoe, outside linebacker
Owen Pappoe (Loganville, Ga.) told SEC Country following his last Auburn visit that the Tigers had emerged as his No. 2 school behind Georgia. Even more significant, the nation’s top linebacker said he planned to make his college decision in the near future between Auburn and Georgia. The Tigers have made up a lot of ground. Pappoe is set to make his decision on May 5. His relationship with linebackers coach Travis Williams will be the big factor playing in Auburn’s favor.
Biggest threat: Georgia

quote:
No. 11 Clay Webb, offensive lineman
The top prospect in the state of Alabama generally chooses between the two in-state schools. Last year, Justyn Ross went against the trend and picked Clemson. Expect the 2019 class to revert back to tradition. Tennessee and Georgia will make pushes for Clay Webb. Georgia probably has a better chance of the two. But this has been — and will continue to be — an Iron Bowl recruiting battle. Webb has visited both in-state programs countless times in the last two years. He grew up a Crimson Tide fan, so many believe it’s only a matter of time before he chooses Alabama. Auburn won’t give up until he does — and likely won’t even stop then.
Biggest threat: Alabama

No. 24 Nakobe Dean, inside linebacker
Nakobe Dean (Horn Lake, Miss.) has already visited Auburn once this spring and is slated to make another trip this weekend. He is being recruited heavily by LSU, Georgia and Alabama, as well as the two in-state programs. Dean’s second trip to Auburn in as many months signals a growing interest in the Tigers given that his first trip to the Plains came this spring. When he returns, he’ll be alongside his high school teammate, Raydarious Jones, who accompanied him — and picked up an offer — on their initial visit. The fact they’re returning together for a second time indicates their growing interest to play together. Several other top programs, including Georgia most recently, have followed Auburn’s lead by offering Jones.
Biggest threat: Alabama

No. 41 Wanya Morris, tackle
Wanya Morris is high school teammates with Pappoe, and the tandem will likely make their decisions around the same time. The Grayson High (Loganville, Ga.) tackle narrowed it two a month ago, Auburn and Tennessee. Morris created his top 2 shortly after taking a visit to Knoxville, Tenn., with Pappoe, so it’s understandable why there is growing buzz around the Volunteers in this recruitment. But Auburn’s need for tackles is documented and Morris is the highest-ranked tackle the Tigers are recruiting.
Biggest threat: Tennessee

No. 49 Nathan Pickering, defensive end
Nathan Pickering (Seminary, Miss.) is being recruited heavily by all the big schools in the southeast. He has taken several visits this spring. Pickering expects to be back at Auburn in the near future. He’s not sure it’ll be this weekend, but it’s possible. Even if he has to alter his visit plans, Pickering wants to make it back to the Plains as soon as possible. His relationship with Marcus Woodson and the laid-back way Auburn coaches treated him on his first visit made a major impression. It’s never easy to pull Mississippi prospects out of Mississippi, but Auburn is making a serious effort with Pickering.
Biggest threat: Mississippi State

No. 72 John Emery Jr., running back
John Emery is one of Auburn’s top-2 running back targets in the 2019 class. Noah Cain is the other. Emery visited Auburn earlier this month for junior day and was accompanied by his entire family. The 4-star running back from Destrehan, La. didn’t know much about the Tigers when he arrived but he left calling them a major contender. Emery will be a top running back target for Georgia, Alabama and LSU, as well. In fact, those schools likely have Cain and Emery at the top of their wish list. In Emery’s case, Auburn is most mindful of the home-state program.
Biggest threat: LSU

No. 75 Jaylen McCollough, safety
Jaylen McCollough (Powder Springs, Ga.) made a mid-week visit to Auburn last month that stood out. He isn’t crazy about junior days because it doesn’t allow for much 1-on-1 time with coaches. McCollough got plenty of that when he made his weekday visit to the Plains, however. The 4-safety sat down with defensive backs coach Greg Brown to talk in-depth about what his role would be in the Tigers defensive backfield. McCollough liked what he heard from the veteran safeties coach. He also likes what he’s been hearing out of Tuscaloosa, Ala., and Columbia, S.C. It wouldn’t be shocking to see the Georgia Bulldogs become a factor either.
Biggest threat: Alabama or South Carolina

No. 84 Charles Moore, defensive end
Charles Moore (Louisville, Miss.) is committed to Mississippi State and has been since August. But that isn’t stopping him from taking other college visits or showing interest in other programs. Moore has been in communication with defensive line coach Rodney Garner and others for a while now. He’ll make a visit to the Plains this weekend. Moore remains a solid commitment to Mississippi State. With the said, the more Moore visits, the more you have to wonder how solid that commitment is.
Biggest threat: Mississippi State

No. 95 Jaren Handy, defensive end
Jaren Handy (New Augusta, Miss.) recently committed and de-committed from LSU, so I wouldn’t expect to see him make any immediate decisions. He reopened his recruitment to make sure he took a proper amount of time to make the decision. However, Auburn’s communication with Handy was a big reason for his decision to step off his LSU commitment. The Tigers weren’t the only ones trying to convince him to reconsider his commitment, but they were a key reason. Handy will now make his first visit since his de-commitment to Auburn, which has to be a positive sign for the Tigers.
Biggest threat: Alabama or LSU

No. 98 Xavier Truss, offensive tackle
Xavier Truss’ name hasn’t been mentioned much, but that’ll likely change whenever he sets up his return visit. The tackle from Rhode Island made a southeast-wide tour last month that went to Clemson, Georgia, Auburn and Alabama. When he left, Truss told SEC Country that Auburn made the biggest impression on him over the course of the weekend, which actually surprised him given his impressions going in. Penn State holds a slight edge because of his familiarity with the program, thanks to its proximity to home. Truss wants to make it back to Auburn soon, though. And when he does, he thinks Auburn has a chance to become a top contender.
Biggest threat: Penn State

Previewing Auburn’s recruiting visitors this weekend (SECCountry)
FWIW KN has reported that 4* ATH Diwun Black will also visit

Mississippi contingent in Class of 2019
It’s been well documented how thoroughly Auburn is scouring the state of Mississippi in the 2019 class.
Auburn has offered double-digit prospects from Mississippi in this recruiting cycle. In fact, the Tigers have offered more recruits from Mississippi than Alabama. Auburn’s push started by hosting big-time prospects such as Nathan Pickering and Nakobe Dean, who have made visits in the last couple months. Their reactions have had a ripple effect in the Magnolia State.
This weekend will be one of the biggest for Auburn and its Mississippi push.
SEC Country has confirmed a few prospects throughout the week, but here is the full list of Class of 2019 prospects from Mississippi expected to be in town this weekend.
5-star LB Nakobe Dean
4-star DE Nathan Pickering
4-star DL Charles Moore
4-star DL Byron Young
3-star DL Jamond Gordon
3-star CB Raydarious Jones
Dean and Jones, high school teammates, were the first Mississippians to visit Auburn. They came at the end of January. Jones picked up an offer on his visit. Dean is one of Auburn’s top linebacker targets in the 2019 class and his return trip will be a big one for the Tigers.
Pickering makes a return trip, which is big for Auburn. He has told SEC Country that of the recruiting trips he’s taken this spring, the visit to the Plains made a major impression on him because of the laid-back feel of the Tigers coaching staff. Young hasn’t made a visit to Auburn yet, but he’ll come down after a visit to Alabama.
Gordon and Moore are already committed, but they’re at least looking around. Moore is the nation’s No. 84 overall prospect and is committed to Mississippi State. Gordon is committed to Ole Miss and is ranked outside the top 500.
FWIW KN has reported that 4* ATH Diwun Black will also visit

Two big out-of-state linebackers return to Plains
Travis Williams is going to make a big linebacker splash this cycle. The assistant coach has cast a wide net and is going national.
Florida and Louisiana aren’t out of Auburn’s standard recruiting territory — as is the case with California linebacker De’Gabriel Floyd. Still, Auburn is going out of the Alabama-Georgia hotbed to find some of the linebackers it will recruit in 2019.
Two of them will be on campus this weekend: Ge’Mon Eaford and Donte Starks.
Starks is from New Orleans and has already been to Auburn once this spring. On the last visit, he came up with most of his family. There were a few family concerns, one source said, about the distance from home, especially with LSU prioritizing him, too. Those issues apparently were put to rest on that visit, at least in Starks’ mind, he told SEC Country.
Eaford was schedule to come to Auburn for its junior day in March. The Deerfield Beach, Fla., linebacker had to reschedule for this weekend. He’ll arrive at Auburn on Friday. To my knowledge, this is the first time Eaford has been on campus since coming with his whole team for a camp last summer.
Keep an eye on Eaford. Supposedly his teammates told Wolk last year that of all them Eaford was most likely to land at AU. Also T-WILL apparently really likes him
I just don't see Starks leaving LA

Top 2020 DT schedule to make second spring visit
Mississippi’s influence at Auburn this weekend won’t be contained to the 2019 class.
McKinnley Jackson, from Lucedale, Miss., is the No. 1 defensive tackle in the 2020 class. He’s the No. 14 overall prospect. The 6-foot-2, 300-pound prospect has been to Auburn this spring for a junior day. He spent a lot of his time with defensive line coach Rodney Garner and area recruiter Marcus Woodson.
Apparently the impression they made will be enough to bring him back. Jackson will be at Auburn on Saturday.
What makes this visit interesting is the timing of his other recruiting plans. Jackson had been committed to LSU for three months. He made a visit to Auburn on March 3 and backed off his LSU commitment on March 8.
