What I think Auburn will do: There’s no hiding what the big disappointment was in the 2018 class.
Auburn missed on many of its top offensive line targets and only signed two — both interior linemen. The Tigers’ coaching staff doesn’t feel the sense of desperation that many of the loudest voices in the fan base do. From talking with people inside the program, Wanogho, Sammons, Brahms, Hamm, Ashley and Kim are all offensive linemen who coaches feel strongly about heading into the 2018 season.
Plus, look at the age of the roster. Unless someone greatly improves in 2018 — Wanogho is the likeliest given his size and athleticism — it’s possible Auburn returns the same offensive line for the 2019 season as it has for 2018. Regardless, there is a lot of youth to feel great about on this depth chart even though the last two recruiting hauls have been underwhelming from a depth standpoint.
Auburn felt the misses in the 2018 cycle, but there were also decisions made by the staff that indicated patience with linemen. The Tigers could’ve pushed for Jalen Goss during the early signing period, but didn’t. Auburn had chances to go after William Barnes and take his teammate Ed Montilus, but the package deal wasn’t necessarily the best option. Walker Culver could’ve been offered earlier — so on and so forth.
That tells me Auburn doesn’t think it needs to take a huge haul in the 2019 class. With that said, I expect the Tigers to try to fill out an offensive line with two tackles, a center and two guards. Right now, the most ideal (realistic) scenario for that would probably be Wanya Morris, Darius Thomas, Clay Webb, Keiondre Jones and Carter Colquitt — though there will be plenty of moving and shaking in this cycle.
That would be an amazing OL class

What I think Auburn should do: I’m not in the panic-button corner for Auburn’s offensive line situation. There is plenty of talent to go around on the offensive front right now and could realistically see eight players cracking the rotation in 2018 — nine if a grad transfer comes.
In fact, I didn’t subscribe to the theory that Auburn “failed” at offensive line in the 2018 class. Irvin adds immediate center depth. Stutts is going to be the hidden gem from last cycle. Sure, there were misses, but the immediate need for offensive linemen truly wasn’t there, plus none of the offensive tackle options were Day 1 types.
Still, a big class on the offensive line class makes sense to me.
There are 13 scholarship offensive linemen on the roster. I think it’s always smart to run with 15 because it allows a three-deep offensive line chart, which is great for depth purposes. There will be little to no offensive line turnover after the 2018 season, but a few transfers could happen depending on how reps shake out this spring and fall.
On top of that, the turnover following the 2019 season will be large, so getting guys in the 2019 class would be more beneficial than loading up in 2020. For that reason, I’d take three interior linemen and three tackles for a class-wide six offensive linemen. It’d be a big class, but it’d be worth it in the long run.
I think being upset about this past OL class is fair but I also agree that it's not reason to panic. Now if we strikeout this cycle then we could run into some serious trouble down the line

With Bo Nix in place, Auburn turns attention to 2020 quarterback recruiting with new offer (SECCountry)
quote:
Auburn offers 2020 quarterback
I’ve spent this week writing offensive positional analysis pieces for the 2019 recruiting class.
The first installment Monday centered around the quarterback position, which luckily for Auburn, is figured out in 2019 with Bo Nix. In the post, I hinted that the Tigers wouldn’t need to take another 2019 quarterback unless coaches felt Jarrett Stidham was leaving for the NFL and that one of the three quarterbacks remaining — Malik Willis, Joey Gatewood or Nix — would be in danger of leaving after a competition heading into the 2019 season.
It remains early in the 2019 cycle, so it’s possible the Tigers monitor other quarterbacks in this class. So far, Auburn has only offered one quarterback, and that’s Nix. It would be somewhat of a surprise to even see another quarterback offered in this class.
It gives Auburn a head start in 2020 quarterback recruiting.
The Tigers already had four quarterback offers out to Harrison Bailey, Max Johnson, Drew Pyne and TJ Finley — four of the highest-rated quarterbacks in the class. Auburn took it a step further Thursday by offering the only quarterback in the class ranked higher than Bailey.
Auburn offered 4-star quarterback Jack Miller from Scottsdale, Ariz. Miller is the No. 1 overall quarterback in the 2020 class and the No. 46 overall prospect, according to 247Sports. He already held offers from Ohio State, UCLA, Florida State, LSU, Louisville and Texas A&M, so the Tigers aren’t the first to get in on the Miller sweepstakes. They will be afforded the luxury of getting ahead on 2020 quarterback recruiting because of its stable 2019 situation.
Miller is 6-foot-4, 210 pounds. As a sophomore, he was 107-of-201 passing for 1,735 yards and 20 touchdowns in 10 games. He added 85 rushing attempts for 385 yards and 4 touchdowns. Miller only threw 6 interceptions as an underclassman, helping his team to a 7-5 record.
Auburn offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey has spent time at Arizona State, so the Tigers will hope his in-state connections help with the Miller recruitment.

Auburn hosts 5 top targets over weekend as busy recruiting calendar set to begin (SECCountry)
quote:
Auburn hosts 5 impressive visitors
In comparison to weekends to come, this weekend was intended to be somewhat of a down weekend on the recruiting front.
That is until you look at the full lineup on campus.
Spring practice begins next weekend, which will bolster on-campus recruiting this spring (more below), but that didn’t stop Auburn from hosting several top 2019 targets the weekend before its next junior day. Five prospects made their way to Auburn over the course of the weekend, including a few ranked inside the top 150 nationally.
4-star T Xavier Truss, Bishop Hendricken (R.I.), No. 99 overall
4-star G Keiondre Jones, Callaway (Ga.), No. 132 overall
4-star T Jaelin Humphries, Mountain View (Ga.), No. 219 overall
4-star WR Zion Puckett, Spalding (Ga.), No. 241 overall
4-star OLB Mikel Jones, IMG Academy (Fla.), No. 307 overall
Truss was the highest-rated of the group, so let’s start there. The 6-foot-7 tackle made his final visit of a Southeast excursion to the Plains. In the days before, Truss visited Clemson, Alabama and Georgia. With Auburn’s immediate need for tackles, Truss’ interest in the Tigers shouldn’t come as a surprise. He spoke with Jason Caldwell of Inside the Auburn Tigers and said he was “blown away” by the surprising trip to the Plains. Truss picked up an offer on the visit and would like to return.
Keiondre Jones has been a regular visitor to Auburn in the last year. He attended at least two Tigers games during the 2017 season, so his return shouldn’t be a huge surprise. The 6-foot-4, 315-pound guard from Hogansville, Ga., also will be heavily recruited by Alabama, Georgia and Clemson, which are the three other schools most likely to be involved for Jones.
Humphries was referenced in my offensive line 2019 positional analysis piece last week. He visited over the weekend and will be one of many tackles to visit this spring as the Tigers try to shore up a position it missed on several times during the 2018 cycle. Humphries holds other SEC offers from Georgia and South Carolina, but his recruitment is in the earlier stages.
Puckett told SEC Country he “enjoyed” his first visit to the Plains. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound wide receiver from Griffin, Ga., has picked up recent offers from Ohio State and Texas A&M. There will be a lot of buzz around Puckett in the months to come. The Tigers tried to get ahead by hosting him on a visit this weekend.
Mikel Jones is yet another IMG Academy prospect to visit Auburn this cycle. The Tigers’ efforts with the Bradenton, Fla., school have picked up mightily in the 2019 class. Jones sent the following message to SEC Country about his initial visit to the Plains: “It was everything I expected and more. I’m happy I got to speak with the coaches. I liked every one of them.”
There likely will be more in-depth updates on these prospects throughout the week.

Setting stage for next Auburn recruiting weekend
As mentioned above, it’s about to be a busy time for Auburn football, especially recruiting.
The Tigers are set to host their second junior day of the spring.
Auburn spring practice officially starts Thursday. There likely will be a few visitors on campus for the kickoff of that. It will jump-start a month filled with practices, scrimmages, spring games — and, the kicker for all of it, recruiting visits.
This weekend Auburn will host dozens of prospects, built around its second spring practice. It will be much like its previous junior day on Feb. 3, but visitors will have a front-row seat for the Tigers’ second practice. The final home basketball game conveniently falls on the same day, a chance at redemption against South Carolina. Gus Malzahn and the football program have utilized the basketball team to their recruiting gain for most of the spring already.
There will be plenty of recruits to preview heading into Thursday, this weekend and the rest of the next month. Let this be your keep-an-eye-out disclaimer.

TOP WIDE RECIEVER TARGET
George Pickens (6-foot-5, 190 pounds, Hoover)
Pickens was the first player to commit to Auburn's 2019 class, giving his pledge to the Tigers before the start of his junior season back in August. Since then, Pickens' stock has continued to rise as a big-bodied target with great ball skills. He's rated as a four-star recruit and the nation's No. 27 wide receiver, as well as the No. 6 player in Alabama.

Jashawn Sheffield (6-foot-1, 178 pounds, Saint Simons Island, Ga.)
Sheffield is the No. 11-rated receiver in the country and the No. 58 overall recruit in the 2019 class. The four-star prospect's offer list is a who's who of Power Five schools, with Florida State, Ohio State, Alabama and Clemson among the big names competing with Auburn for his commitment. Gus Malzahn and Kevin Steele visited Sheffield's school on Jan. 31.

Ramel Keyton (6-foot-2, 180 pounds, Marietta, Ga.)
Keyton is a four-star prospect and rated as the nation's No. 28 receiver in this class, as well as the 157th-best player in the country this cycle. Keyton holds offers from Auburn, Clemson, Alabama and Florida, among others, and he visited the Plains both during the Iron Bowl in November and earlier this month for the Tigers' junior day.

IN-STATE GLANCE
Pickens is the top-rated receiver in the state and the only one among Alabama's top-40 players, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. Three-star receiver Da'Shawn Owens out of Dothan is the next highest-rated receiver in the state, and he's committed to Florida Atlantic. Three-star Sidney Lanier receiver LaQuez Cain is the state's No. 3 receiver, and while he does not yet have an Auburn offer, he was on campus earlier this month for junior day.

TOP OFFENSIVE LINE TARGET
Clay Webb (6-foot-3, 297 pounds, Oxford)
After signing just two offensive linemen in the 2018 class, adding depth to the trenches will be a priority for Auburn in the 2019 cycle, and there's no target bigger than Webb, the No. 1 recruit in Alabama and the top center in the nation. Webb, a five-star prospect, is rated as the No. 12 player in the country and he already holds offers from Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Clemson, Florida and Mississippi State. Webb visited Auburn for last season's Iron Bowl.

Devontae Dobbs (6-foot-4, 270 pounds, Belleville, Mich.)
Dobbs is one of the nation's top offensive tackles, rated as the No. 2 player at the position in the 2019 class. He's also the top player in Michigan and a top-10 player nationally. Auburn has offered him, as have the likes of Michigan State, Alabama, Clemson and Ohio State.
Gonna go ahead & say this is a guy NOT to watch. Highly doubt AU is a real factor in his recruitment

Devayie Hammond (6-foot-4, 320 pounds, Bradenton, Fla.)
Hammond is one of a handful of prospects from IMG Academy that Auburn is recruiting this cycle, and he already holds an offer from the Tigers. Hammond is rated as the No. 3 guard in the nation, No. 7 player in Florida and 39th-best player in the 2019 class. Hammond was previously committed to Alabama but reopened his recruitment last month. Along with Auburn and Alabama, Hammond holds offers from Florida, Florida State, Georgia and others.
Two really bad choices for names to watch on OL... Hammond I think AU might at least possibly become a factor so that's something at least

IN-STATE GLANCE
While Webb is the No. 1 prospect in the state, he's hardly the only top lineman coming out of Alabama this year. Pierce Quick is the No. 2 recruit in the state and a five-star tackle committed to Alabama, but don't expect Auburn to give up on him. There's also four-star Thompson tackle Amari Kight, the No. 5 player in Alabama, who was on the Plains earlier this month for the Tigers' junior day.
Quick is all Bama & Kight seems to be looking anywhere but AU unfortunately

The four-star prospect holds 19 offers, with Arkansas and Notre Dame the early favorites. Auburn offered him back in December, shortly after Gus Malzahn said during the early signing period that the Tigers were in need of a "big-time" tight end.
