RIVALS REACTION: Like Fann said himself, he could commit ay any time. He has been very close on more than one occasion to committing to a school. Some think it was to different schools too. He has strong relationships with multiple staffs, so visits will be something to watch closely if he decides to take anymore before he commits.

RCS Miami: Prospects that earned their stripes (Rivals)
quote:

MIAMI - The 2018 Rivals 3 Stripe Camp Series presented by adidas kicked off on Sunday in South Florida, with 200 of the area’s best college football prospects turning out to compete. With so much talent on hand, there were plenty impressive performances, but only a select few can win position MVPs or earn a much-coveted invite to the Rivals100 Five-Star Challenge presented by adidas. We run through the players who won awards and earned their stripes at Sunday’s event.

OFFENSIVE LINE MVP

4* OG Dontae Lucas

The massive offensive lineman who recently transferred to IMG Academy came ready to play on Sunday. He had several highlight-worthy reps during the one-on-ones, using his strength and size to toss his opponents aside. Lucas has a national offer list already, with Miami among his early favorites. Once coaches get a chance to see him in the spring, his list is likely to grow from the teens in the 20s or higher.

Major AU target. Believe he is a MIA lean tho

WIDE RECEIVER MVP

4* WR John Dunmore

The only player to earn a return invite to the Five-Star Challenge, Dunmore has only gotten better since shining at the Miami camp last spring. The one-time Florida commit looks more confident than ever and he wasn’t afraid to flash his swagger in front of opponents on Sunday. Schools like Florida State and Miami are now heavily involved in Dunmore’s recruitment and it could be a classic “Big Three” battle to land his signature.

RUNNING BACK MVP

4* ATH Mark-Antony Richards

At some positions there were heated battles for the MVP award but when it came to running back it was a clear consensus that Richards was the top man at the position. The all-purpose back has great speed and is elusive in space and he drew rave reviews from position coach and former NFL running back Priest Holmes. Richards was also invited to the Five-Star Challenge and his versatile skillset will play well at the elite event and he should be fun to watch against the nation’s best.

Has previously named AU in his top 2 with Miami. Brother is former AU target, now MIA WR Ahmmon Richards. Probably all Cane

LINEBACKER MVP

4* LB Anthony Solomon

Solomon first caught our eye at the Rivals Camp in South Florida in 2016 when he was just a rising sophomore and on Sunday he was impressive once again. Former NFL linebacker and event position coach Levon Kirkland had nothing but praise for Solomon and his play was consistently impressive from drills through the end of one-on-ones. Miami, Clemson, Michigan and several others are involved in Solomon’s recruitment.

DEFENSIVE BACK MVP

4* CB Kaiir Elam

Elam’s comes from a family known for producing elite defensive backs so it’s not much of a surprise that he came into Sunday’s event expecting to impress. Not only did he back up his Rivals250 ranking, he had no problem going toe-to-toe with some of the best competition in attendance. Schools like Auburn, Florida and Georgia have already offered and Notre Dame figures to be a major player in his recruitment as well.

QUARTERBACK MVP

QB Aaron McLaughlin

The class of 2021 prospect from the state of Georgia made the trip down to South Florida for the event and ended up leaving with the event’s MVP award. The 6-foot-5, 205-pound prospect has great arm strength and showed quite a bit of improvement over his performance at last year’s Rivals Camp event. The crop of signal-callers was a little deeper than in year’s past so McLaughlin walking away with the honors is only that much more impressive.

Dude is a rising sophomore. Will probably be #1 ranked player in 2021 class. AU has offered

ADDITIONAL RIVALS100 FIVE-STAR CHALLENGE INVITES

4* DE Khris Bogle

The defensive line group wasn’t super deep at the event, but the top end of the position was terrific, with Bogle among the leaders. The 6-foot-5, 215-pound pass rusher was nearly impossible to block, using his speed and array of moves to blow by offensive linemen. Among Bogle’s early favorites are Clemson, Florida State and Miami and all three have comparable players to him on the roster and he will be a highly-pursued player in the class.

Ladson was one of three former Florida commits to earn an invite to the Five-Star Challenge. Ladson is one of the tallest wide receivers in the country. And while Sunday wasn’t his best day, he was definitely still in the upper echelon of receivers in attendance.

A junior at Homestead (Fla) South Dade High School, Ladson is a popular name in recruiting offices all over the country. He’s strongly considering Miami, Clemson and Georgia but also holds offers from schools such as Alabama, LSU, Florida State and others.

Stevenson, who plays alongside Ladson at South Dade, was once committed to the Gators and has plenty of college options on the table. Miami seems to lead the way for the time being, but there’s no way of telling where Stevenson may land at this early juncture. Stevenson’s calling card is his size and physicality, but he seems to be getting better in downfield coverage.

Stevenson joins Ladson as the first South Dade players to ever receive invites to the Five-Star Challenge.

Dent’s talent has never been in doubt, so the fact that he spent Sunday playing out of position at wide receiver didn’t hurt his chances of securing his Five-Star Challenge Invitation. One of the top prospects in the entire country, Dent will work at his natural position of defensive back at the Five-Star Challenge.

Dent is committed to Florida State and is expected to stay as such at least for the near future.

FYI Clemson could be terrifying on recruiting trail this year. They are gonna sign a 30+ player class more than likely this year due to having a bunch of seniors this year & fact they have signed some smaller classes last 2 years
They rarely go that big even when they had small classes like recently. The last cycle they signed small classes like the ones recently their big class was 25. I'll believe they sign in the 30s when I see it.

Grad transfer OT talks AU visit, upcoming decision (Rivals)
quote:

AUBURN | Calvin Anderson needs a temporary home, a place to better prepare him for the NFL.

It’s why Anderson, a graduate transfer offensive tackle from Rice, is searching for a school to play his final year of eligibility, and why he was in Auburn this weekend on an official visit.

“I got a lot of my questions answered and even more questions answered than I had,” Anderson said. “I could both literally and theoretically (see myself at Auburn) because we put the uniforms on, so I could definitely see it. I had a really good weekend.”

Anderson arrived in Auburn on Friday. His father, stepmother and stepsister all arrived on Saturday. They met with Auburn coach Gus Malzahn, offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey and offensive line coach J.B. Grimes.

“All of those guys are genuine, and I enjoyed that,” Anderson said. “I was happy to have the family here. They were really happy and it seems like they got a really good feel. My stepmom is really, really good gauging about whether or not people are legitimate. She’s a lawyer, so she’s a big help. You can’t get by her.”

Anderson spent a lot of time Saturday meeting with Grimes.

“I was happy about that the most,” Anderson said. “We sat down for almost an hour and a half and just talked football, fundamentals, what he saw on film, what he thinks he could help me with specifically and that’s the stuff that I really wanted to get into. All the aesthetics are great, but at the end of the day it comes down to football.”

Anderson also met several players during his visit, including Darius Slayton, Chandler Cox, Calvin Ashley and Mike Horton. He saw the depth chart and how he could compete for a starting position. He also saw an addition role he could play at Auburn.

“It’s very important for me to come in and have a chance to start. That’s first and foremost,” Anderson said. “But with Auburn, I’d also have the opportunity to be in a leadership role with some of the younger guys. I got to meet some of the guys over the weekend, Calvin and Mike, and they are good guys. I would be grateful to be in a position that I could counsel them, give them some of the wisdom I’ve gained over the years.”

Anderson left Auburn on Sunday with a lot to consider. He already has visited Texas and Michigan and the two join Auburn in his top three. He doesn’t have any other visits scheduled at this time, although he’s considering Oklahoma and Texas A&M.

“After I sit down and process this visit, talk with my family and think through it all, I’ll go from there and figure out whether or not I’ll do the Oklahoma visit,” Anderson said. “We’ll see. This visit was a big factor in that decision.”

Anderson initially planned to announce his final decision in March, but it could come sooner. He expects it to.

“I don’t want to drag this thing out, so I think it will be before March 25,” he said.

Anderson’s family lives in Austin, Texas, which could make the decision to stay home an easy one. Not for Anderson.

“(My family) lives in Austin, but proximity to home is not much of a factor because I am trying to go to the best place for seven months to get prepared the best,” Anderson said. “It’s great to be home, all that’s great, but that’s not really weighing into this decision because this is a business decision. I’m taking into account what can make me better, and I don’t think proximity to home has anything to do with that.”

If he is honest about location to home not matter then I really like our chances. Just not sure that's the case

Well I am just warning you, it's gonna happen this cycle. Dabo doesn't oversign 85. He has like 20 or so seniors this year plus some open schollies. They also expect some transfers. It's gonna be a big class for them

Auburn ‘helped themselves greatly’ with grad transfer T Calvin Anderson on official visit (SECCountry)
quote:

AUBURN, Ala. — Calvin Anderson is priority No. 1 for Auburn.

With National Signing Day complete, the Rice grad transfer offensive tackle has become the centerpiece of the college football recruiting world. Anderson is highly coveted by Texas, Michigan, TCU, Oklahoma, Texas A&M and Auburn. The Tigers had the most recent opportunity to impress the 6-foot-5, 300-pound offensive tackle.

According to Anderson, his official visit to Auburn improved the Tigers’ chances.

“I think they helped themselves greatly. I already thought pretty highly of Auburn and I didn’t know much about it, and now that I know a lot more than I did, I think they went from being great to more great,” Anderson said. “For placements and all that, I got to think through it, but I think they certainly — it’s certainly pluses. So, how many pluses, I’ll figure out, but certainly pluses.”

Anderson spent the last three seasons — 36 games in a row — as the starting left tackle for the Rice Owls. After his redshirt junior season in Houston, Anderson talked his possible NFL future over with his father. The two agreed Anderson had legitimate NFL dreams that could best reach their potential at a Power 5 institution.

That’s when Texas, Michigan and Auburn began the battle for Anderson.

Coming into the Auburn visit, Anderson’s knowledge of the Tigers was based on what he’d seen from a distance. Over the weekend, Anderson — along with his father, step mother and step sister — took an official visit to get a better understanding of what Auburn has to offer.

Following the visit, Anderson said he can see himself playing for the Tigers.

“I could. I think both literally and theoretically, because we put the uniforms on and all that. I can definitely see it. Coach [Gus] Malzahn and Coach [Chip] Lindsey, all of those guys, are just genuine. I enjoyed that. You can see when you’re in person with somebody whether or not they’re genuine,” Anderson said. “A lot of it speaks for itself. Obviously SEC football is the biggest football you can play at the collegiate level.”

Coming into the weekend, Anderson told SI.com’s Bruce Feldman that Auburn was in a tier slightly below Texas and Michigan. Most of that was based on the fact Anderson had already taken his official visits to those two programs. With the visit the Plains complete, Auburn has inserted itself firmly into that top group with the Longhorns and the Wolverines.

But, for now, Anderson doesn’t have a specific order of favorites. That will be a conversation he has with his family on the trip back to Texas.

“I’m sure we’ll spend this whole ride talking about it and spend the night talking about it too,” Anderson said. “It seems like they got a good feel and my stepmom is really good about gauging whether or not people are legitimate. She’s a lawyer so she’s a big help. You can’t get by her.”

Anderson spent most of his visit with Auburn coaches.

For some of it, however, he hung out with Tigers offensive linemen such as Mike Horton and Calvin Ashley. His main priority for all the schools he’s considering is a chance at immediate playing time. All three of his primary trio seem to give him that opportunity. With Auburn, though, he likes the idea of serving a leadership role for younger guys like Horton and Ashley. He wants to help those guys on the path to live out their NFL dreams, as well.

But it was the film sessions with offensive line coach J.B. Grimes that left the biggest impression on Anderson.

“I was happy about that, I think, the most. We sat for almost an hour and a half yesterday just talking football. Just talking fundamentals, what he saw on film, what he thinks he can help me with specifically, and that’s the stuff I really wanted to get into,” Anderson said. “All the aesthetic is great, but at the end of the day, it comes down to football. I was happy to sit down with him and talk specifically about, hey, what can we get better at? What can we do in this seven-month time?”

That seven-month time period makes Anderson’s decision fascinating.

He went to high school in Austin, Texas. That’s where the three family members who joined him this weekend reside. With the Longhorns involved, Texas would be an easy choice for Anderson to make, right?

Well, it may not be as much of a guarantee as one would think.

“Proximity to home is not really much of a factor, because I am trying to go to the best place for seven months to get prepared the best. So it’s great to be at home. All that’s great. But that’s not really weighing into this decision, because it’s a business decision,” Anderson said. “So I’m taking into account what can help me be better, and I don’t think proximity to home has anything to do with that.”

Anderson hasn’t yet finalized whether or not the Auburn official visit will be his last. He hasn’t set a firm date for his college decision, but he expects it to become well before his March 25 hard deadline.

Key Mississippi prospects Nathan Pickering, Dannis Jackson express interest in Auburn, playing together (SECCountry)
quote:

Top-50 prospect Nathan Pickering headlines Mississippi targets, details early interest in Auburn

To understand the importance of Nathan Pickering to Auburn’s 2019 class, you must first understand the hashtag.

Social media has become a necessary component to college athletics recruiting. The college football world often finds unique hashtags to signify each recruiting class. Auburn’s 2018 recruiting class was marked by the tag #T18ERPROWL. This upcoming cycle will be known as #MAUL19. Pickering and the other top prospects in a loaded state of Mississippi class are referring to the group as #SipBoyz19, a nod to their home-state connection.

Auburn has pursued many of the prospects from that contingent already in the 2019 class. Pickering, Nakobe Dean, Brandon Turnage and Dannis Jackson (more on him below) are just a few of the names the Tigers have pursued so far. All of those aforementioned names already have made visits within the last month, which has led to a new hashtag, combining the Mississippi and Auburn marketing tools: #SipMaul19.

This is all meant to be brought up to describe the rare bond between Mississippi athletes this cycle and Auburn’s clear-cut vision to dip into that state in 2019. Pickering, well, he’s the ring-leader of the group. The 6-foot-5, 270-pound defensive end is the No. 2 player in the state and the No. 46 overall prospect in the 2019 class.

The first visit aced the eye test, and he plans to take many more.

“The trip was great. Auburn is somewhere I wanted to experience and I loved it,” Pickering said in reference to his junior day visit. “They obviously will be a factor. When I put my top schools out, Auburn will be high on it. I loved it. … I’ll definitely be back. Anytime I get a chance to come, I’m coming.”

Three important names highlighted Pickering’s trip to Auburn: Marcus Woodson, Derrick Brown and Rodney Garner.

Woodson is one of the key pieces to this Mississippi pipeline. He has ties to the state and has known many of these prospects, including Pickering, since his time at Memphis. Brown hosted Pickering for the duration of his visit and the 2019 defensive end called him a “great all-around dude” who impressed him with his religious faith, something important to Pickering when he leaves for college.

And then, of course, there’s Garner — the deciding factor for most defensive line targets.

“He’s cool. He’s like a father figure to me. He seems like someone who I would love to be coached by,” Pickering said.

Pickering isn’t in a rush to announce any decisions.

He’s picked up offers already from Alabama, Florida, LSU, Florida State, Georgia, Notre Dame and others, including the in-state schools. Pickering hopes to take a few college visits this spring to narrow down his top interests. He’ll have a “top list” by the summer, he said.

One thing is for certain: Auburn is in it.

And Pickering likely won’t be alone among the #SipBoyz19 in that regard.

“I was talking to Dannis [Jackson] and he’s really loving Auburn, and I’m loving Auburn. Dannis is my dog. I love him. We treat each other good and look after each other,” Pickering said. “We’ll both be considering Auburn.”
