4-star OL Austin Troxell: Some of the happiest news of the day came from the mammoth offensive tackle signee. He’s off crutches, out of a brace and fully cleared by doctors following another ACL tear that kept him out of his senior season at Madison Academy (Ala.). Troxell is running and will be fully capable of participating in strength and conditioning training once he starts May 28.

4-star WR Noah Igbinoghene: One of Auburn’s two wide receiver signees loved the new-look passing offense. He cited Jarrett Stidham and Malik Willis when talking post-game. Igbinoghene is eager to get on campus and start soaking in the offense because he feels like there will be many similarities between Auburn and his Hewitt-Trussville playbook. Speaking of Hewitt-Trussville, Igbinoghene has been in 2019 offensive lineman Pierce Quick’s ear about joining him in Auburn.

3-star DT Tyrone Truesdell: He didn’t say much, aside from how thrilled he was to be an Auburn Tiger after some uncertainty leading up to National Signing Day. The return to Jordan-Hare Stadium was his first chance to be on campus since signing his paperwork. Rodney Garner sees Truesdell as a run-stopping, gap-filling lineman.

3-star WR JaTarvious Whitlow: He’s been hitting the weights big-time this offseason. The wide receiver has bulked up to 215 — of good weight — and reminds me of Marquis McClain as a physically imposing wide receiver who could probably play safety or linebacker if defensive coaches asked him, too. He was Auburn’s big NSD surprise, and I think he’ll continue to shock and impress the Tigers’ fanbase.
Dude's gotten big. Good chance he carves out a role as a freshman

3-star DT Alec Jackson: Jackson has been on campus more than any of the 2017 signees this spring, aside from the early enrollees, of course. He’s paid special attention to Rodney Garner’s coaching style and said, as hard-nosed of a coach Garner is, Jackson can’t wait to get on campus and start working under Auburn’s defensive line coach.

3-star safety Jordyn Peters: Peters spent much of his A-Day recruiting fellow north Alabama prospect Asa Martin. Peters and Martin played against each other last season in the annual Muscle Shoals-Austin matchup, so the two are very familiar with one another. Those two had a good time together throughout A-Day.

Auburn QB commit Joey Gatewood makes 5-star WR Justyn Ross his No. 1 target (SECCountry)
quote:
A-Day provided a welcome glimpse into the future for Auburn’s passing game.
Jarrett Stidham shined with his deep ball and efficiency in his first public Jordan-Hare Stadium appearance. True freshman Malik Willis impressed with his tight-throw accuracy and scrambling ability. Chip Lindsey’s new offense gave off a more quarterback and receiver friendly vibe.
Everyone noticed it — especially Auburn’s offensive recruits.
Auburn quarterback commit Joey Gatewood mentioned the spread-the-wealth passing game immediately after his visit. He said it put to rest any lingering doubts that, for the most part, never existed in the first place, which allows him to re-structure his focus in the 2018 recruiting cycle.
Instead of taking more visits and talking to more coaches, Gatewood has assumed the role of lead recruiter. It’s a growing trend in college recruiting, as each class tends to find the vocal leader to build around. For Auburn, last year’s version was Malcolm Askew.
Gatewood officially has taken on that responsibility in 2018 through various in-person and Twitter efforts.
“I was doing a lot (of recruiting). I’m trying to get the class right,” Gatewood said of his A-Day experience.
Want a better idea of Auburn’s offensive recruiting priorities? Just look at who Gatewood cornered during his weekend visit: WR Justyn Ross and RB Asa Martin.
Most of Gatewood’s time was spent with Auburn’s No. 1 targets at the wide receiver and running back position. Ross and Martin are top targets at multiple programs across the southeast and aren’t guarantees to land with the Tigers, but Gatewood is doing his part to secure them.
The Gatewood-Ross connection served as a symbolic bond on A-Day, as Auburn’s passing game opened up tremendously from previous years.
“It’s really important. You’ve got to have a good bond with your quarterback for y’all to play good. It stood out to me,” Ross said of Gatewood’s efforts. “He just says that he wants me here with him, that he wants a long wideout.”
Gatewood and Ross weren’t just weekend visit buddies.
They’ve developed a strong relationship dating back much earlier in the recruiting cycle. In Gatewood’s two most recent trips to the Plains, Ross has been there. The tandem played alongside one another at the Under Armour All-America Future 50 camp in December (both will play in the UA game in January).
Plus, Gatewood finds time to recruit Ross away from standard recruiting events.
“I talk to him weekly, almost daily. Like I say every time I’m here, I’m going to make him my receiver. … I’m confident, but we’ll see,” Gatewood said. “He’s going to be my wide receiver. I’m confident about it. I’m very confident.”
Ross laughed it off when asked why Gatewood seems so sure.
“I can’t say. You’ll have to talk to him about that. I don’t know,” Ross said with a smile.
Gatewood’s answer to that high-level confidence?
“You’ll see,” Gatewood said. “He already knows everything about Auburn. I’m just informing him that he can come with with me. I’m the quarterback. I want you to be my wide receiver. Just come join me.”

2 schools recruiting Pleasant Grove's Myles Mason hardest right now (AL.com)
quote:
Pleasant Grove's Myles Mason seems like a recruit who has seen all he needs to see at the top five schools he's considering.
But Mason, a 6-foot-2, 200-pound four-star recruit who will likely play safety at the next level but could get a look at receiver, isn't ready to commit just yet.
"Hopefully this summer," Mason said Saturday after Auburn's A-Day game when asked about a decision timetable. "Just whenever I feel the time is right."
Mason currently has a top five of Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Florida State and Clemson, but said he'd like to get to Georgia soon. He has visited his top five schools this spring. Perhaps a trip to Georgia could give Mason more to think about.
Mason, who also plans to visit Alabama soon possibly for its A-Day game on April 22, said Alabama and Auburn are currently recruiting him the hardest now.
Mason said he was happy with how Auburn's defense played in Saturday's scrimmage, and talked more in-depth with secondary coach Greg Brown.
"His experience in the NFL (stands out)," Mason said. "When I went in the meeting room, he showed me some stuff on tape that shows me he knows what he's talking about."
Mason lives closer to Tuscaloosa than Auburn, but the Auburn coaches aren't conceding Mason to Alabama by any stretch. Mason earned most of his big offers before his sophomore season in high school.
"I have a good relationship with the coaches (at Auburn)," Mason said. "The coaches have always kept it real with me."
Mason plays on both sides of the ball for Pleasant Grove. He had 84 tackles on defense as a junior.

Where Auburn's top uncommitted prospects stand in their recruitment
Auburn picked up two commitments on A-Day last weekend as Kameron Stutts and Kolbi Fuqua joined the fold. Let’s take a look at some of the top uncommitted prospects Auburn is recruiting and where they stand.

Jalyn Armour-Davis, defensive back
The in-state star Armour-Davis included Auburn in his top six along with Florida, Florida State, Georgia, LSU and USC last month. He did not make Auburn’s A-Day Game as he had to take the ACT, but the Tigers are believed to be a top contender.

Jacob Copeland, wide receiver
The elite receiver unveiled his top five schools on Twitter this week -- Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Ole Miss and Tennessee. Copeland plans to announce his decision during the 2018 Under Armour All-America Game in January.

Breiden Fehoko, defensive lineman
LSU could be the front-runner here, but Auburn is still in the mix for the grad transfer who left Texas Tech after the 2016 season. Georgia, Louisville and Ole Miss are factors as well. Expect a decision sometime this month.
Pretty sure he announces April 17th

Matthew Hill, wide receiver
Hill hasn’t revealed much about his recruitment yet, but Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Tennessee and South Carolina are believed to be among his top contenders. A commitment is not expected any time soon.

Tyneil Hopper, tight end
Hopper is likely the top tight end on Auburn’s board. He has no leaders, but recently said he could make his decision as early as this summer. Hopper seems to have a good relationship with Auburn, especially new tight ends coach Larry Porter and true freshman quarterback Malik Willis, who was his teammate at Roswell High School last fall.
I think big question is do we keep recruiting Nathaniel Watson as a LB or as a TE. If as LB I expect we push hard for Hopper

Richard Jibunor, defensive end/linebacker
As Jibunor's stock continues to rise this spring, Auburn and Alabama are along for the ride. Jibunor hears from the Tigers and Tide most often and has a solid relationship with fellow Nigerian Prince Tega Wanogho Jr. on the Plains. A timetable for a decision has not been set.

Harold Joiner, running back
Last month Auburn, LSU and Ole Miss made up Joiner’s “unofficial” top three. Now Alabama and Georgia are in his unofficial top five. The Tide offered earlier this month and he believes the Bulldogs are close to doing the same. He hopes to make up his mind around December.

Asa Martin, running back
Martin recently told AL.com Auburn has ramped up its pursuit. He said Auburn is in his “top group” as he prepares to make a commitment before his upcoming senior season this fall.

Zakoby McClain, linebacker
McClain’s relationship with Auburn linebackers coach Travis Williams has the Tigers in the lead for his services. He’s also interested in LSU and South Carolina and told 247Sports Auburn’s lead “isn’t that big.” Should be interesting to track McClain’s recruitment over the next few months.
LSU is who scares me here. Hasn't visited them yet. If we survive as leader after LSU visit then I think we get em

Coynis Miller, defensive end
Miller’s top schools are Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Georgia and Ole Miss. He was in Auburn for A-Day last weekend and expects to see Alabama’s A-Day too. He is the former teammate of Auburn signee T.D. Moultry, but grew up an Alabama fan.

Quindarious Monday, safety
Auburn leads for Monday, but Florida State, Florida, Tennessee, Georgia and Michigan are also big factors. He has remained in close contact with the Auburn staff on nearly a daily basis. He plans to make his decision at the end of his senior season.
