Florida State grad transfer Wilson Bell’s commitment to Auburn could alter left guard vacancy (SECCountry)
quote:

Add another option to Herb Hand’s offensive line contingency plans.

Florida State offensive line grad transfer Wilson Bell has committed to Auburn, a source confirmed. Keith Niebuhr of 247Sports was the first to report. The 6-foot-5, 320-pound offensive lineman will be eligible to play immediately after graduating from Florida State this spring.

His addition comes at a pivotal time for Auburn, as the Tigers’ offensive coaching staff continues to sort out vacancies on the offensive line. Hand spoke to reporters last week and called the left guard spot “probably our biggest question mark, I guess is the best way to put it.”

Bell has spent most of his college career at right guard, starting all of the Seminoles’ games in the 2015 season as a redshirt sophomore. He had a more difficult fight for the starting guard role during his redshirt junior season.

Hand said Marquel Harrell, Kaleb Kim, Mike Horton, Austin Golson and Tucker Brown have all taken reps at the position this spring. Bell’s name will likely fit in there once he arrives.

“That’s the piece of the puzzle we’ve got to figure out the most. That’s yet to be determined. Nothing is really determined yet, but just during the spring practice, that’s probably been the one question mark position,” Hand told reporters last week. “When you have a guy, Alex Kozan, who’s really been the anchor there for so many years, it’s a natural deal.”

Bell is originally from Mobile, Ala., where he was a 3-star offensive guard recruited to Florida State by now-Alabama defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt.

Auburn was heavily involved in Bell’s recruitment out of high school. The Tigers hosted Bell in the weeks leading up to National Signing Day when Auburn, Ole Miss and Florida State all began battling to flip Bell from Central Florida.

Bell redshirted for the Seminoles in the 2013 season when Auburn and Florida State faced off in the national championship.

This is the second offensive line graduate transfer for Auburn this offseason. Casey Dunn committed to Auburn earlier this spring after a successful FCS career as a two-time All-American at Jacksonville State.

Hand also addressed the usefulness of grad transfers to the offensive line room.

“There are plusses and minuses to everything obviously, but the thing you want to do with any guys like that is make sure they’re a good fit,” Hand said. “You don’t want to bring people into your fold that are going to be disruptive or not going to be great for chemistry.”

Auburn lands graduate transfer OL from Florida State (AL.com)
quote:

Auburn added more immediate help across the offensive line on Friday.

Wilson Bell is transferring from Florida State to Auburn as a graduate transfer, AL.com has confirmed.

The news was first reported by 247Sports.

Bell, who prepped at Blount High School in Mobile, will have one season of eligibility left and will be able to play this fall for the Tigers.

The 6-foot-5, 320-pound Bell signed with Florida State in 2013, picking the Seminoles over Auburn and Ole Miss. He redshirted in 2013, played sparingly in 2014, started every game in 2015.

Bell started five games at right guard for the Seminoles last season. He was arrested last December for a failure to appear on a hit and run crash, but did play in the Orange Bowl against Michigan.

Bell is slated to be the second graduate transfer on the Auburn offensive line this fall. Casey Dunn will play his final season with the Tigers after a stellar career at Jacksonville State.

Auburn came into spring looking to fill two starting offensive line spots, including one at left guard.

Where state of Alabama's top 16 prospects stand in their recruitment (AL.com)
quote:

Looking at the state's top prospects

It's probably a good idea at the beginning of each month to catch up on where the state's top prospects stand in their recruiting processes.

We'll go by the 247Sports composite here, which combines the rankings of 247Sports, Rivals, Scout and ESPN. This early, the top list on the composite isn't as good as we would like. That's because a service like ESPN hasn't ranked Mobile defensive end Andres Fox (pictured) yet for some reason despite his massive offer list. So while he won't be in this top 16, he's got a final three of Alabama, Auburn and LSU.

Justyn Ross, WR, Central-Phenix City

The 6-foot-5 receiver earned an invite to The Opening and is the best receiver prospect this state has seen in quite a while with his size and speed.

Ross remains wide open since his mother is serving our country in Kuwait. He will narrow things down this summer. It could be an Alabama-Auburn battle, but Ohio State has also offered. Ross will likely take his recruitment into Signing Day.

The four-star corner named a top six of USC, Auburn, Georgia, Florida State, Florida and LSU a month ago. At the time, a decision was imminent, but it hasn't materialized. His coach told AL.com that Alabama will remain in the mix. It's hard to figure out where the talented athlete is right now with his recruitment. He said he doesn't plan to make any visits this weekend.

The 6-foot-4 four-star receiver lives 10 minutes away from Alabama, but he says Auburn is coming after him harder and Alabama not as much these days. Georgia and Ole Miss are also coming after Williams hard.

The 6-foot-3, 325-pound four-star guard has offers from Auburn and Georgia, but not Alabama. He was scheduled to visit Alabama on Wednesday. Jenkins seems wide open and could play out of state.

Haven't heard anything about him in forever

Myles Mason, DB, Pleasant Grove

The 6-foot-2, 200-pound Mason is being recruited as a safety by most, receiver by some. He said he has a top five of Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Florida State and Clemson.

Mason will likely be in Auburn this weekend for A-Day. Right now, it seems like Auburn and LSU are coming after him hardest.

Martin has told some media outlets that Florida leads, but had more of an open approach with AL.com. Auburn is also coming on strong, and he'll visit there for A-Day weekend. He also wants to visit Michigan.

Coynis Miller, DL, Jackson-Olin

Miller spent a few days last week at Auburn and also went to an Alabama practice. This could be an in-state battle for the four-star athletic lineman, but he also wants to visit LSU and other schools. He will likely narrow his decision down before his senior season and commit after the season.

Auburn has offered the legacy and he says the Tigers are his leader, but he is in no hurry to commit.

Coaches like Watson on defense, but he could also play tight end at the next level with his 6-foot-3, 200-pound frame.

Auburn has not yet offered Bo Jackson's speedy nephew, but there is strong mutual interest. Mississippi State and Memphis are his biggest offers now, but that could change after a strong spring showing.

Maybe he gets offer this weekend and commits? Doubt it as I think we are waiting for him to camp this summer

Foster earned his "dream offer" from Alabama, but says Missouri is still his No. 1 school.

He could commit to Missouri now if he wanted to, but Alabama coaches want to see him throw in person before giving him the go-ahead to commit.

The 6-foot-2, 210-pound Foster is a dual-threat passer with great pocket presence.

Auburn recruiting podcast: What are Tigers' chances with QB Gerry Bohanon? (AL.com)
quote:

Drew Champlin and Mark Jennings are back with another edition of Champ's Corner, the Auburn recruiting podcast.

Some topics:

A recent visit by Arkansas QB Gerry Bohanon and Auburn's chances with the dual-threat quarterback

How Auburn targets performed in the Atlanta Under Armour regional

Updates on recent key visitors to Auburn practice and new offers

Some visitors for the upcoming A-Day game

It's an interesting podcast. Pretty sure the Mark Jennings guy is a bit of a satirist for recruiting gurus but does provide nice insight
