Weird. We had a strong OL recruiting class a couple of years ago I thought. Yeah. 2015. We signed (5) four star guys to the OL (if you count Prince as an OL and not a DL). Where the frick are those guys?

Personally I don't think both Casey Dunn and Wilson Bell will start but we will see. Mike Horton is from that class and I think he is expected to start at RG right now. Marquel Harrell is another and was thought to be the guy at LG but sounds like they still looking for someone at that position. Kaleb Kim is a center and so is blocked by Golson.

I think Tyler Carr and Bailey Sharp just aren't good enough yet

Has there ever been another "4 star" recruit which neither fanbase in the state wanted? He was like the fat kid getting picked last in dodgeball. "You take him" " No, you the him."

Lots of update incoming....

KN had VIP article up this morning on 5* WR Justyn Ross. Ross says it's important for AU that they show a strong passing game moving forward and he's encouraged by what he has seen in practice. Specifically said he was impressed with Malik Willis and Jarrett Stidham. Ross wants to see AU air it out tomorrow at A-Day. Kodi Burns and Bama assistant Derrick Ansley are coaches he has best relationships with. Says he speaks with Burns probably everyday. Ross confirms that Markail Benton is in his ear a lot about coming to play at Bama with him. Claims though it won't have a major influence on him as he is looking for best fit. The #1 thing that stands out to him about AU right now is the people.

Auburn lands transfer from FSU (247)
quote:

Auburn has landed a commitment from Wilson Bell, a grad transfer offensive lineman from Florida State.

He will be eligible to play immediately.

The news of Bell's transfer to Auburn was brought to our attention by Josh Newberg of Noles247 and we quickly confirmed it.

Bell visited the Tigers in March.

He started 19 games the past two seasons for the Seminoles at guard.

Per Gridironnow, "Bell started all 14 games for Florida State as a redshirt sophomore in 2015, playing right guard. Last season, he played in 10 games and started five, including the season-opening victory against Ole Miss and the regular-season finale against rival Florida."

A native of Mobile (Ala.) Blount, the 6-feet-5, 320-pound Bell chose the Seminoles over Auburn and Ole Miss coming out of high school. Had he stayed at FSU, he would have been a fifth-year senior.

Bell will graduate this spring.

The addition of Bell is significant.

Big honor for key Auburn target (247)
quote:

To say the least, the last few weeks have gone pretty well for running back Harold Joiner of Birmingham (Ala.) Mountain Brook.

In addition to his recent move into the top 100 of the 247Sports rankings, more offers have poured in.

Now, a big honor has come his way.

On Friday, the 6-feet-4, 218-pound Joiner, a top Auburn target, was invited to compete in the 2018 U.S. Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio, Texas.

“It’s exciting,” Joiner said. “I’ve always watched this game.”

Joiner quickly accepted his invitation but plans to make it official via Twitter on Saturday.

“I’m honored,” Joiner said. “I’m happy to be apart of it. I’ve always wanted to be apart of this.”

Joiner is the No. 55 recruit nationally in the 247Sports rankings. He has an unofficial top five of Auburn, Alabama, Georgia, LSU and Ole Miss.

Joiner will attend Auburn’s A-Day game Saturday.

The 2018 U.S. Army All-American Bowl is January 6, 2018.

“I’ll be pretty excited,” Joiner said. “It’s going to be amazing. It’s going to be a great experience.”

A-Day visitors list (247)
quote:

Auburn's annual A-Day game is Saturday at Jordan-Hare Stadium and the Tigers expect many top targets to attend the event.

The list includes one 5-star (receiver Justyn Ross) and several 4-stars. Most will come from the states of Alabama, Florida and Georgia, as typcially is the case.

As you can see, it's a solid group.

Will there be any surprises -- players not on our list who make the trip to Auburn? Probably. But we'll know for sure Saturday afternoon.

For now ...

4* QB Joey Gatewood (AU Commit)
4* RB Asa Martin
3* RB Tae Provens
4* WR Matthew Hill
4* OG Trey Hill
2019 4* OT Pierce Quick
4* DE Brenton Cox --> surprised Marquez Ezzard not also on list
4* RB Harold Joiner
4* ATH Nathaniel Watson
3* OT Kameron Stutts
4* LB JJ Peterson --> big chance for AU to get in the race
5* WR Justyn Ross
4* OG Jalil Irvin (AU Commit)
4* S Quindarious Monday
4* DT Coynis Miller
3* ATH Kolbi Fuqua --> could be on commit watch if he's a take
3* S Juanyeh Thomas
3* S Jamien Sherwood --> recently offered
3* DE Andres Fox
3* WR Anthony Schwartz --> ran the 10.15 100m time last weekend
2019 5* OG Clay Webb
4* OT Dylan Wonnum --> Irvin recruiting him hard
2019 4* LB Ja'Len Sims

Pretty legit list

KN put up a recruiting insider tonight. Here's summary

- Apparently some sources KN has spoken to think AU might land 1-2 commitments tomorrow. KN wasn't given any names but speculated 3* ATH Kolbi Fuqua could be one to watch. Some names that I think could pull the trigger Nathaniel Watson, Quindarious Monday, Matthew Hill, Kameron Stutts or Fuqua. We will see

- Looking very unlikely Auburn will land grad transfer Aaron Cochran. That could change but as of now looks pretty certain that with Bell on board we will pass on Cochran. I think that shows more concern at guard than tackle

- Apparently Breiden Fehoko to LSU isn't such a done deal. He gave LSU glowing reviews after visit but did same for AU. Apparently staff still likes their chances thanks in part to Garner's history of putting kids in the NFL. Sounds like we still think it's a close race

- Right now AU feels best about 4* WR Matthew Hill of all the receivers they are recruiting. South Carolina and Florida State are after him hard as well but grew up a lifelong AU fan and has clicked with staff

- AU still cautiously optimistic about landing 4* CB Jalyn Armour-Davis. It's an AU/FSU battle right now. Both sides have some confidence. Won't make it to A-Day (or FSU's spring game) because of ACT

Auburn OL target Trey Hill on Herb Hand: ‘I would really like for him to coach me’ (SECCountry)
quote:

Auburn OL target to visit, stay patient

If there are offensive linemen in the 2018 class better than Trey Hill, the list is short.

The 6-foot-4, 330-pound offensive guard from Houston County (Ga.) is ranked the No. 2 offensive guard in the nation. He’s in the top 40 among overall prospects, which makes him a fringe candidate for a fifth recruiting star. Hill will be an interior lineman at the next level.

For now, Georgia — with 8 of 8 Crystal Ball predictions — is the projected favorite, but Hill insists he doesn’t have a top list or a decision timeline. He communicates with Georgia, Florida, Florida State, LSU, USC and South Carolina on a regular basis.

Auburn is in there, too.

Over the years, Hill has visited Auburn “six or seven times,” and he’ll return again Saturday for A-Day.

“That’s the plan. I just want to see how their line plays, how coach (Herb) Hand coaches in a game setting,” Hill told SEC Country. “I want to view everything over again and see where I’d fit best in their program.”

When it comes to Auburn, most of Hill’s contact is through Hand.

Hill talked with Auburn pre-Hand, but the relationship has developed exponentially since Hand took over offensive line duties. If Auburn has a chance of landing Hill, Hand will be the biggest factor in that decision.

“He’s just a great, energetic coach,” Hill said. “I would really like for him to coach me.”

Gus Malzahn has also joined the Hill recruitment, which shows the interior offensive lineman’s high priority on Auburn’s board.

Hill raved about the Auburn head coach, but he also offered a dose of reality when it comes to what he’ll be watching from Auburn this fall.

“He’s got to win this year,” Hill said. “But he’s a great guy. He’s a family guy. Auburn, really, it’s just a great campus. It’s a great place to be. They treat me like family, and it feels different than other places. It’s just Auburn. That’s the only way to describe it.”

4-star DB target wants to reconnect with Auburn

Auburn recruiting fans should give this piece by Dawgnation’s Jeff Sentell a read. It’s an up-close look at 4-star defensive back Trey Dean from Dutchtown (Ga.). There are some worrisome parts of the article — notably the fact Dean wants to play with Quay Walker, who Dean doesn’t believe will end up at Auburn.

Let’s add some context to that conversation. Dean and Walker are close. Both have expressed their desire to play alongside one another at the college level. These conversations happen from time to time in recruiting. Sometimes it happens; sometimes it doesn’t.

Right now, however, there isn’t a chance for Dean and Walker to play together at Auburn.

Why? Dean doesn’t hold an Auburn offer.

He wants that to change. Dean told SEC Country a few weeks back his communication with Auburn was nonexistent, but that he “really, really” liked the Tigers. He hopes that level of contact changes in the near future, though he’s already starting to form some of his own decisions.

Last weekend, Dean talked more about the Auburn contact. He hasn’t been in communication with Auburn’s staff since Wesley McGriff was still at Auburn. Since McGriff left for Ole Miss, Dean and Auburn haven’t been a pair.

“Not even a little bit,” Dean said.

Right now, the schools in contention are Alabama, Georgia, UCLA, South Carolina, USC, Oregon and “a bunch of others.” Basically, if you’ve offered Dean, you’re still in the race at this time. Auburn hasn’t offered, so the Tigers aren’t a part of that conversation.

But they can be.

“That’s why I’m trying to get back up there for a practice or a visit,” Dean said. “The game atmosphere was great. I just like the coaching staff and the way they do things. I think they’re going to be great in the next couple years. … If they were to offer, it depends on what they say and the interest they show me, but I’d consider them.”

The 6-foot-2, 180-pound Dean is the No. 23-ranked safety in the 2018 recruiting class.

That's kind of irritating...

Top Auburn RB target receives crucial offer

At 6-foot-3 and 218 pounds, Harold Joiner isn’t your average running back. His combination of size and agility has drawn comparisons to another running back who played college football in the state of Alabama: Heisman winner Derrick Henry.

Will Joiner have that level of production?

That’s unknown for now, but the physical similarities are impossible to ignore, which has made many in the industry envision him in a Crimson Tide jersey for a while. The only catch was he didn’t hold an Alabama offer.

It’s been brewing for some time, but on Wednesday, Joiner finally picked up that coveted Alabama offer. As SEC Country’s Chris Kirschner reported, Alabama offered Joiner as an athlete rather than explicitly as a running back. Joiner’s physicality and pass-catching ability has some evaluators project him more as a tight end or receiver than running back.

Joiner wants to play running back, though he has said on multiple occasions he won’t rule out other possibilities that present themselves.

Still, Alabama’s hesitance to specifically offer as a running back keeps Auburn’s chances high. Auburn and LSU have been Joiner’s favorites for a while, and that hasn’t changed, he told Kirschner. Ole Miss is also in the mix.

Alabama hasn’t caught up quite yet, but the Crimson Tide are coming. That offer could change the game.

To follow up on Joiner here's bama article on recent offer. Sounds like LSU is team to beat right now because they are offering him only as a RB

quote:

Harold Joiner, the state of Alabama’s No. 2 running back from Mountain Brook High School, picked up an offer from the Crimson Tide on Wednesday. But from the sound of it, the chances he goes to Alabama aren’t high right now.

There are two reasons for that.

The first reason is Alabama’s scholarship offer to Joiner was as an athlete. While talking to SEC Country on Wednesday night, Joiner was adamant about wanting to play running back in college — something LSU is pitching. While talking to Nick Saban on Wednesday, the five-time national champion mentioned running back, H-Back, wide receiver, linebacker and safety as potential positions he could play if he were to commit to the Tide. Saban compared him to Tim Williams, who obviously didn’t carry the ball for Alabama.

“I want to play running back,” Joiner said. “I want that to be my primary position. The only position I would think about switching to would be wide receiver, but I want to play running back first.”

Because Joiner is set on being a tailback in college, Alabama doesn’t present the greatest opportunity for an easy path to guaranteed early playing time. The Crimson Tide are loaded in the backfield. Bo Scarbrough, Damien Harris, Josh Jacobs, B.J. Emmons, Najee Harris and Brian Robinson make the case for the deepest position at Alabama. Those guys were all blue-chip prospects as recruits.

Joiner was honest about his feelings when asked if that depth would impact Alabama’s chances at getting a commitment from him, which he says could happen in December or National Signing Day.

“Yes, that is something that would hurt their chances,” Joiner said. “All of those guys are really good. They have a ton of depth and they may bring in some more. I’m willing to compete anywhere, though.”

That doesn’t sound like someone whose recruitment dramatically shifted after picking up a scholarship offer from the in-state power. The only thing that changed in his recruitment: Alabama is now planted in his top 5, but it’s clear the Tide are no higher than third.

Just last year, however, another highly touted recruit told SEC Country that he was concerned about depth: freshman linebacker Dylan Moses. Moses told SEC Country last summer that he was ‘iffy’ about Alabama because of the amount of linebackers Alabama already had on campus and the ones they had committed. He eventually changed his mind about that, which is something Joiner will have to do as well.

LSU appears to be the frontrunner to land Joiner’s services primarily because the Tigers are pitching to the 6-foot-4, 218-pound prospect to be their lead back in the Class of 2018 and the chance to play as a freshman. LSU running back Derrius Guice will likely leave for the NFL draft after this season because he’s expected to be a first-round pick next year, so a starting spot will be open. The Tigers didn’t sign an elite running back in the Class of 2017, so the chance to play early is real at LSU.

While visiting Baton Rouge, Joiner said he’s had that sense of seeing himself wearing the purple and gold one day. He hasn’t felt that anywhere else.

“I’ve had that feeling at LSU,” Joiner said. “They have great coaches who are ready to compete for championships. They said I would see the field my freshman year. They have a downhill offense, which I like.”

Auburn, which is where he’ll be this weekend for the Tigers’ spring game, is also associated with Joiner because, like LSU, the Tigers want him to play running back and a little wide receiver. But it’s clear that Auburn’s plan for him, if he did commit there, doesn’t exactly match Joiner’s wishes.

“Those are the two schools — more so LSU — that tell me that I can play running back there,” Joiner said. “They also communicate with me every day. LSU strictly wants me at running back. The coaches there told me that I could switch positions only if I wanted to.”

Now, compare that to Saban’s message to Joiner on Wednesday and you’ll see why it’s currently unlikely he chooses Alabama.

“He was telling me that I need to come to camp to see which position I could play later on,” Joiner said. “He doesn’t know which position I would play right now if I went there.”

Alabama already has a commitment at running back from 4-star prospect Dameon Pierce, but he hasn’t visited Tuscaloosa in several months. It’s very possible he eventually departs the class as other schools pursue. But, unlike Joiner, when Pierce committed to the Crimson Tide, the one thing he wasn’t concerned about was depth.

Trio of 2019 offensive targets praise Auburn following most recent visits (SECCountry)
quote:

6-foot-7 TE likes Auburn, Georgia

Auburn fans can’t wait to see how tight ends are utilized under new offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey. The only group more intrigued by the new-look changes? The program’s tight end targets.

The Tigers still have a few options to sort through in the 2018 recruiting cycle, but they’re already laying some serious groundwork for the Class in 2019. One of the top tight ends in 2019, Ryland Goede, visited Auburn last weekend. He’s becoming a regular on the Plains.

Like many, he’s eager to see how Auburn uses its tight ends in a slightly new offensive scheme.

“They are telling me they’re going to a true tight end now instead of using both H-Backs and tight ends, and they’re telling me I’m their No. 1 guy. They want me to keep getting back over here,” Goede said. “That’s big-time. One of the first things I consider in a school is seeing how they would use me. The way (Lindsey) talked to me it seems like they’re going to be using the tight end a ton.”

At 6-foot-7 and 237 pounds, Goede offers a physical presence unmatched by other rising junior tight ends.

The new tight end conversation suggests that Auburn’s future targets will be multipurpose guys who can block on the line and also run routes on the perimeter. Goode can do it all. In the 2019 class, he’s the No. 4-ranked tight end, which places him as the No. 67 overall prospect, according to 247Sports.

Goede’s trip last weekend allowed him to check out a scrimmage. He won’t be at A-Day, but he said he’ll watch to see if there truly is much difference with the tight ends.

“I loved it. Every time I get over here it’s exciting seeing all of the coaches and meeting the new staff. I’m just creating those relationships,” Goede said. “(Auburn) is very high. I love Auburn a lot.”

With that said, he hasn’t narrowed down his list yet.

Previous reports suggested Auburn and Georgia were his top 2. That’s more of an unofficial list than anything. Those were the first two programs that recruited him, and Goede confirmed the Tigers and the Bulldogs continue to put more recruiting pressure on him than others.

But he’s still shopping.

“They have kind of a special place in my heart, but no top schools at the moment,” Goede said.

This was Goede’s last planned visit to any school for the time being. He expects to return to Auburn this summer for a camp.

Top-10 prospect in 2019 visits Auburn

The 247Sports recruiting service released its top 247 prospects in the 2019 class on Thursday. Two wide receivers made the top 10. Key Auburn target Dominick Blaylock was one of them. He came in at No. 8.

Blaylock has been on Auburn’s campus a lot over the course of his recruitment. He visited last weekend with Goede. For Blaylock, it was more of the same at a school he is quite familiar and comfortable with.

“I like the campus here, I like watching them practice — it was another good experience for me to see Auburn again,” Blaylock said. “I like (Kodi Burns) a lot. He’s a good receivers coach. It was cool to meet him, too, for the first time.”

Most of Blaylock’s communication goes through Tim Horton, his area recruiter, hence the initial meeting with the Auburn wide receivers coach.

Those relationships with Auburn need to start building in a hurry. The 6-foot, 180-pound Blaylock doesn’t expect his recruitment to carry on much longer. He has, more or less, narrowed his recruitment to three programs — Auburn, Georgia and Clemson. Most believe Georgia is the leader and that the decision is imminent.

Even Blaylock confirmed he’s on the verge of a commitment.

“I’m probably going to have where I’m going to commit this summer and probably announce it later on,” Blaylock said. “(With Auburn), I like their facilities, I like their academics here, the coaching staff and how long they’re going to stay here. I like it a lot.”

Blaylock is considering a return to take in the spring game. If not, he’ll be back over the summer prior to his final decision.

300-pound offensive lineman pits Auburn high

Along with Goede and Blaylock, offensive lineman Keiondre Jones was the other top-100 prospect in 2019 who visited last weekend. Jones ranks as the No. 4 offensive guard in the class and the No. 83 overall prospect.

Since his recruitment picked up, the 6-foot-3, 318-pound offensive guard has been on the Plains “three or four times.”

His most recent trip received a top-notch review.

“I like it a lot. It’s real nice. It’s pretty close to home. I like that it’s a small city,” Jones said. “I love it up here, man. It’s a great hometown feel. It’s very close to home.”

Those words ring true when Jones lists his top factor in making his college decision.

“Basically being comfortable wherever I’m at because I know I have three or four years there,” Jones said. “I need to be comfortable with my surroundings and have a good relationship with coaches.”

Jones’ closest coaching bond at Auburn is with offensive line coach Herb Hand.

The two have communicated ever since Hand took over as offensive line coach. Last weekend was another opportunity for that bond to grow.

“We’re really close. He got here, my first time here was his first couple weeks here, so we’ve been talking off-and-on since then,” Jones said.

Jones said Auburn, Clemson, Georgia and Ohio State are the four schools recruiting him the hardest and contacting him most frequently.
