Also VIP article on KN's new CB pick for McClain to AU

AU was apparently trending up before the visit as him and T-WILL were chatting a lot. It's clear Williams has made McClain a clear top target and apparently treated him this weekend as you would expect a 5* to be treated. Also McClain seems to like Williams the most of any coach recruiting him. Also had a nice long talk with Malzahn that went really well. KN says it's clear AU is the top team and there really isn't a solid #2 just a bunch of other schools battling for that spot. Long way of course but right now looks really good for AU. It's clear McClain is near the top of AU's board and it showed Saturday

McClain is around 200 lbs right now which is a bit light but could probably play around 225. However you have to think that if there's any coach that can teach a 200 lb kid to play LB in the SEC it's Travis Williams

Highlights for those interested. Love the way he hits. He might be light but it's clear he's really strong

KN says 4* QB Gerry Bohanon told him AU wants 2 QBs in this class. However, AU source told KN that Bohanon is looked at as an athlete. KN seems to think that means he will get the ole "shot at QB" treatment. Arkansas is also recruiting him as an ATH

KN has insider recapping big Saturday for AU. It's in slideshow format so I will break it up into multiple posts

First up is 3* DE Andres Fox. He's down to AU, BAMA & LSU. Apparently he loved watching Garner get after the DL at scrimmage. It seems like he really likes Garner. KN says what's really helping AU right now is how early we got in for him and how close he is with the staff. Says we were his first big offer and that seems to matter.

AU did that a bunch this year. We targeted some guys like Channing Tindall, Andres Fox, Jalyn Armour-Davis and Nathaniel Watson before anyone else really noticed and because of that we are able to stay in top groups

Next up, 4* TE Tyneil Hopper

Another good visit for Hopper. His family is real close with Larry Porter. Has not listed a top group yet but clear AU and UNC the top ones. He has brother who is at UNC right now. He liked the scrimmage and called AU a great place to be. Florida visit is up next. Something working in AU's favor is Malik Willis. They are former teammates at Roswell and he's been telling Hopper good things about AU

2019 TE Ryland Goede

Goede doesn't claim any public leaders but sounds like it's an early AU/UGA battle and he says his interest in AU is "high". Our pitch is we are looking for true TEs now instead of splitting up H-Back(FB) & TE duties. We are telling him he's our #1 TE target in the 2019 class. Plans to camp at AU in the summer

2019 OG Keiondre Jones

Sounds like we are a real player in this kid's recruitment. Listed as the #1 OG in the 2019 class all his CB picks are for UGA but this is the 4th trip already to AU. Says AU, UGA & OHST recruiting him the hardest right now. Plans to be back for A-Day and it seems he likes AU a lot. Long ways to go but he definitely doesn't sound like a longshot right now. My guess is we are #2 behind Dawgs but we will see

2020 ATH Cartavious Bigsby

He earned AU offer this weekend. Will be a national recruit in two years and a guy AU has prioritized early. Teammates with Keiondre Jones

4* LB Zakoby McClain

KN has confirmed that McClain is a 100% take right now. AU has made him a top target

4* OT Richard Gouraige

Sounds like visit went great for both sides. Gouraige has been high on AU before visit and so trip to campus helped solidify AU as a top school. The concern is Gouraige always says what everyone wants to hear after and on visits so hard to tell for sure how well you really did or not. He claims he wants to get back up here for A-Day. If he does that's a clear sign we are top target. Doesn't hurt our chances if he doesn't make the trip either but would definitely be a positive sign if he does. Other teams to watch are Clemson and Florida. Clemson has been the presumed favorite for awhile now

3* Buck Caleb Tannor

Dude has blown up recently landing offers from AU, UGA & Bama all in the past two weeks. Tigers have emerged as a legitimate threat to land the pass rusher. This is his 2nd straight visit and says he will be back for A-Day. KN says he already walks around the complex like a veteran (whatever that means). Might end up an AU/UGA battle but 3 straight visits is great sign for AU. Garner and T-WILL are after him hard.

I am curious to see if we would take both Tannor and Jibunor. I imagine we would

2019 WR Dominick Blaylock

Big time 2019 WR target had great visit but sounds like UGA is gonna be real tough to beat for him. Two things in AU's favor. One, his dad is close with Tim Horton who is his area recruiter. Two, he clicked really well with Kodi Burns (god he sucks right?) this weekend. Long ways to go but AU has a lot of work to do

3* ATH/QB Gerry Bohanon

Bohanon claims AU wants 2 QBs and they are recruiting him for the 2nd spot. KN has heard from sources they want him as ATH. Either way he isn't afraid to be in a 2 QB class and seems high on AU

The melting on this board if we sign both Bohanon and Gatewood will be fun

Auburn’s top offensive line target Richard Gouraige enjoys visit, hopes to return for A-Day (SECCountry)
quote:

Richard Gouraige‘s weekend visit to Auburn went so well, he hopes to return soon.

Very soon.

“I’m hoping for next week,” Gouraige said.

The 6-foot-6, 280-pound offensive lineman from Cambridge Christian School in Tampa, Fla., made a visit to the Plains this weekend, but he hopes to be back for Auburn’s A-Day game on April 8. Gouraige is ranked the No. 6 offensive tackle in the 2018 recruiting class and the No. 62 overall prospect in the nation, according to the 247Sports composite rankings.

Auburn impressed him this time around.

“I love it here. It felt like home. It exceeded expectations. I wasn’t expecting this — this type of visit, bonding with the players and stuff,” Gouraige said. “Coach (Gus) Malzahn. We talked for over an hour (Friday) 1-on-1. He said to just keep working hard and that, ‘We really need you here. You can change the program.'”

Gouraige watched Auburn’s scrimmage on Saturday before heading back to Tampa. He got an up-close-and-personal view of the Tigers’ new-look offense, which continues to have the same fast-pace feel as previous years.

That style is right in line with Gouraige’s preference.

“I fit in — it’s fast tempo,” he said. “It can correlate with my high school. It helps a lot with my athleticism, too.”

Gouraige spent plenty of time with offensive line coach Herb Hand. The 4-star offensive lineman offered rave reviews about Hand after the visit.

“He’s a great guy. He teaches their players. He was telling me he’s going to coach you hard, but he’s going to love you harder,” Gouraige said.

He doesn’t have an official list of top schools yet, but Auburn, Clemson, Florida, LSU and North Carolina are leaving the biggest impression on him right now.

Where does Auburn stand among that group?

“They’re up there,” Gouraige said.

If he does, in fact, make it back to Auburn next week, it will be quite telling where the Tigers stand.

Malik Willis’ high school tight end Tyneil Hopper makes another visit, has growing Auburn interest (SECCountry)
quote:

For the second time since Larry Porter joined Auburn’s staff, 4-star tight end Tyneil Hopper visited the Plains.

The Hopper and Porter relationship dates back to Porter’s time at North Carolina. Hopper’s brother plays for the Tar Heels now. When Porter joined the staff, one of his first calls went to Hopper, who made an unofficial visit on Porter’s first day on the job.

He returned Saturday to take in Auburn’s scrimmage. The bond with Porter will go a long way for Auburn going forward.

“He watched me grow up and become who I am today,” Hopper said. “As soon as he got here, he started recruiting me hard. I really enjoyed that and I really enjoy talking to him. Coach Porter wants me to keep working. He’s going to keep recruiting me as hard as he can and wants me to come here.”

Porter isn’t Hopper’s only connection to the Tigers.

His high school quarterback last season was Malik Willis, an Auburn early enrollee impressing this spring. Hopper said Willis had another standout day at the scrimmage in Jordan-Hare Stadium, but it’s the message Willis is giving him about non-football experiences at Auburn that make him feel like the Plains could be a future home.

“Malik loves it. He says it’s a great place to be, that the people treat you really good. And the food is good. He’s just enjoying the campus and enjoying football,” Willis said. “Auburn is a great place to be. I really like being here. It’s nice.”

Hopper also has offers from Alabama, Louisville, South Carolina, North Carolina and others.

He doesn’t have a decision timeline set, but said it won’t interfere with his 2017 season. Hopper said that means he’ll likely decide just prior to his senior season or just after. He’s ranked the No. 12 tight end in the nation, according to the 247Sports composite rankings.

There are no leaders at this time, but when Hopper makes that list, the Tigers will be in the mix.

“Auburn is going to be in it or near the top, but I’m still looking for the right place,” Hopper said.

Auburn linebacker target Zakoby McClain says Tigers ‘took No. 1’ (SECCountry)
quote:

It took only one visit to Auburn’s campus for 2018 linebacker target Zakoby McClain to name the Tigers his leader.

McClain, a 4-star linebacker from Valdosta, Ga., attended Auburn’s scrimmage Saturday. It was his first time on campus since receiving an offer on March 7.

It was a home run experience.

“Auburn done took No. 1,” McClain said. “(The Tigers’ lead) is kind of big.”

Other schools in the chase for McClain: LSU, South Carolina and Oregon.

With Auburn in the lead, the Tigers are in good shape as the No. 15 outside linebacker in the nation nears a decision. He’s not certain when he will decide, but admitted he “maybe wants to be done in August.”

McClain’s relationship with linebackers coach Travis Williams left the biggest impression following the Saturday visit.

“I’ve gotten real close with him. He’s cool. He’s nice and laid back. He keeps it real with you. He doesn’t sugarcoat it,” McClain said. “I just like the coaches. My dad wants a father-figure type coach. They’ve got that.”

With McClain at 6-foot-1 and 199 pounds, it’s fair to say he is on the small end of the linebacker spectrum.

That perception drives him.

McClain said that’s why he feels like his game compares to a former college football great.

“Ryan Shazier. Speed, ain’t scared to hit. I’m a leader,” McClain said.

Rivals 3 Stripe Camp Dallas: Five prospects to watch (Rivals)
quote:

2019 4* WR Jalen Curry

Curry has been a familiar name in Texas recruiting since the spring following his freshman season. He’s a receiver in a similar mold to Eagles in that he’s a big and physical player that isn’t going to be outmatched by many players smaller than him. Curry is one of the first players to be ranked in the 2019 class and is part of a very talented group of junior receivers in Texas. He’s well beyond the double-digit offer threshold and should continue to see more offers come his way through the summer.

Players impress at Rivals New Speed Combine in Dallas (Rivals)
quote:

WDE Emmanuel Adesina

The first invite of the day from the speed combine was extended to Lewisville defensive end Emmanuel Adesina. The powerfully-built prospect, who was a teammate of 2017 Rivals250 WR Tyrell Shavers, is new to the recruiting process and is hopeful his invite to the 3 Stripe Camp will springboard his recruitment.

“For me, this is my first year doing events like this,” he said. “This my first combine… I tried my best and I’ll continue to get better. I’m not satisfied until I pass my limits every single day.”

A top performance on Sunday could be just what he needs to get the ball rolling. Despite the exposure Shavers brought to Lewisville, things didn’t pick up for Adesina or his teammates last fall.

“He helped us out during spring ball last year introducing us to some coaches,” Adesina said. “I think the thing that hurt us last year was the wins and losses.”

2019 SDE Collin Clay

Oklahoma City (Okla.) Putnam City’s Collin Clay took full advantage of his weekend in Dallas. The class of 2019 defensive end came into the combine already having been invited to Sunday’s camp, but still went out and tested strong, including a 5.0 40-yard dash and a 4.66 shuttle. SMU came through with Clay’s first scholarship offer just three weeks earlier.

“I’ve heard stuff about them and I’ve been looking at them too,” Clay said. “I’ve seen some pretty good stuff about their defensive line, and also they have stuff with sports medicine, which I want to major in.”

Oklahoma State and Texas Tech are also showing early interest, but Clay would like to hear more from Southeast schools. He moved to Oklahoma just four years ago and is originally from North Carolina, where he grew up a fan of the Tar Heels' program.
