Richard Jibunor earns 4th star (247)
quote:

This is why people shouldn't be concerned about AU recruiting 3-stars in March.

The Tigers once again did a great early eval on a little-known recruit. Now, he is blowing up.

Evaluation and recruitment breakdown: Harold Joiner (247)
quote:

At last weekend's The Opening Atlanta Regional, one player looked better physically than perhaps anyone else on hand -- Harold Joiner. But the standout from Birmingham (Ala.) Mountain Brook also proved he has skill to go with it. After a strong showing the 6-feet-4, 218-pound Joiner got a nice ratings bump and now is the No. 2 recruit for 247Sports in the state of Alabama. Why the bump? What abilities make him a unique recruit? In this recording, Keith Niebuhr and Kipp Adams break down Joiner's game -- and his recruitment.

Curious to see if Bama jumps into the game this summer

Two elite 2019 recruits at Auburn on Saturday (247)
quote:

Dominick Blaylock of Marietta (Ga.) Walton, one of the top 2019 recruits in the country, has just arrived at Auburn for an unofficial visit.

He's the No. 11 overall recruit and No. 3 receiver in the 247Sports rankings.

The 6-feet, 175-pound Blaylock has visited the Tigers multiple times. They offered him two years ago.

At this time, the 247Sports Crystal Ball favors Georgia. But it's early in his recruitment.

Another elite 2019 recruit -- tight end Ryland Goede of Georgia also is on campus Saturday.

The Tigers have a scrimmage Saturday morning.

State of GA is loaded next season especially at the top of the rankings. Dawgs off to strong start too but it's early. Curious to see if a bad season would hurt that momentum

State's top recruit at Auburn on Saturday (247)
quote:

Four-star receiver Justyn Ross of Phenix City (Ala.), the No. 1 recruit in the state of Alabama, arrived at Auburn for an unofficial visit Saturday morning.

He's in town to watch the Tigers scrimmage and meet with coaches.

This is at least his third visit to Auburn this year alone.

The 6-feet-4, 197-pound Ross is the No. 4 receiver and No. 31 overall recruit nationally in the 247Sports Composite.

Right now, the 247Sports Crystal Ball favors Auburn, but Alabama is very much in the mix -- and possibly others. Clemson offered last week and he hopes to visit that program soon.

Ross told AuburnUndercover.com last weekend he might not announce his college commitment until National Signing Day.

Just keep getting him on campus

April's top recruiting storylines (247)
quote:

April has arrived and with it comes one of the busiest recruiting stretches for Auburn fooball.

The A-Day game is April 8.

The NCAA evaluation period beings April 15. That's when Tiger coaches can start hitting the road to check out prospects in person.

New offers will go out. Recruits will visit.

And, commitments could come.

As of April 1, the Tigers have four commits and the No. 18 class ranking.

Here are some notable storylines for April.

Will Auburn land a commitment at A-Day on April 8?

Right now, we're thinking the Tigers won't. Not because recruiting isn't going well. It is. But because the chatter seems to be that most of the Tigers' top recruiting targets aren't quite ready to decide.

That said, several big-name prospects are expected at the game (See early list HERE) and anything is possible.

But are any nearing commitment time? That's the great unknown.

Four-star buck Richard Jibunor of Athens Christian (Ga.) could be one to watch. Although he's saying it'll be a summer decison, he's extremely tight with the Auburn staff -- and some current players. He'll be at A-Day so that's worth watching.

Four-star corner Jalyn Armour-Davis of Mobile (Ala.) St. Paul's Episcopal likes Auburn a lot (and FSU) and may be nearing a decision. But he has the ACT that day.

Others to track: Receiver Kolbi Fuqua of Cordova (Ala.), defensive back Juanyeh Thomas, a 3-star recruit from Niceville (Fla.), and 4-star linebacker/athlete Nathaniel Watson of Maplesville (Ala.).

The Tigers lead for Fuqua and Watson -- and are a top contender for Thomas.

Will Auburn decide to take a second quarterback in the class?

It looked as if the Tigers would only sign one quarterback but then Tyler Queen decided he would transfer. That's something we mentioned as a possibilty awhile ago and it recently came to fruition. That means Auburn very well could look to add a second quarterback to the class.

They already have Joey Gatewood, a talented 4-star prospect from Jacksonville (Fla.) Bartram Trail, commited.

First, the staff has to decide what to do. If it's decided to sign two, everyone will have to see how that impacts Gatewood. He might care. He might not care. Time will tell. One thing we know is he loves Auburn and has recruited hard for the Tigers.

If two is the number, who could Auburn target?

The three obvious candidates would be Penn State commit Justin Fields, Ohio State commit Emory Jones and Gerry Bohanon of Arkansas. Fields and Jones are from Georgia -- and do have interest in the Tigers. Bohanon is visiting Auburn this weekend. At last check, the Tigers were recruiting him as an athlete.

Another name to know: Cameron Rising. He's an Oklahoma commit from California who knows Auburn offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey well.

But ...

We'll cross that bridge if it get there.

I don't think I want both Gatewood and Bohanon too similar of prospects. If somehow we could pull a Gatewood/Fields or Gatewood/Jones combo that would be sick but hard to see that happening. Starting to sound like we might go after a 2nd QB which I think is a good idea if we can keep Gatewood on board

Can Auburn catch -- or overtake Florida -- for Asa Martin?

After a recent visit to Gainesville, Fla., the Gators have the lead for 4-star back Asa Martin of Decatur (Ala.) Austin. Auburn is No. 2.

Where does Martin sit on the Auburn boad? We don't know for certain -- but he says he's hearing a lot more from the Tigers of late.

Martin will visit Auburn for A-Day. Right now, Florida has a lot of momentum. If he were committing today, the Gators would get it.

In a nutshell, the Tigers have some work to do if they want Martin -- and his A-Day visit is huge.

Honestly he's #3 on my list behind Master Teague and Harold Joiner but I think Lindsey loves Martin

How will recruits react after A-Day?

Let's face it, Auburn's offense has struggled at times the past two seasons. With a new quarterback (Jarrett Stidham) in the mix and a new offensive coordinator (Chip Lindsey) who apparently has lots of freedom to do what he wants, what kind of product will recruits see April 8 at Jordan-Hare Stadium?

Spring games often are boring. Auburn better hope this isn't one of them.

Recruits want to see more from the Tigers offense. That's not our opinion -- that's what they have told us.

With Auburn trying to woo as many talented offensive recruits to town as possible, an exciting display might be what the doctor ordered.

Will recruits like the play calling, the formations, the varations, the quarterback play?

We'll see.

Which new targets will emerge?

Starting April 15, Auburn coaches can hit the road and evaluate recruits. That's always a time of year when new targets emerge. Visiting those schools also gives the Auburn staff a feel for what kind of shot they have with prospects.

Watching recruits practice in person can sometimes earn players an offer and sometimes can cause a coach -- if unimpressed -- to look elsewhere.

All told, the Tiges have a cominbed 168 evaluation days available for the entire staff. You must use them wisely.

Per the NCAA, a coach "may use one evaluation to assess the prospective student-athlete’s athletics ability and one evaluation to assess the prospective student-athlete’s academic qualifications during this evaluation period."

One other note: The head coach can't recruit on the road in the spring.

KN has VIP update on 2017 signee 5* OT Calvin Ashley:

- He's living once again in Orlando, FL and finishing his high school work online. His grades are apparently fine and there is no concern about him qualifying.

- Ashley attended the scrimmage and came away impressed with the team. He's still confident he can challenge for starting spot or at least a role that contributes next year

- KN spoke with someone close to Ashley about how close he was to flipping. Source says not at all. Was always locked in with AU. KN has heard there were times it was shaky and we all remember when MD "insiders" were calling for a flip to happen one day

Watch: Auburn WR target runs blistering 10.15 100 meters (247)
quote:

One week from Saturday, 3-star receiver Anthony Schwartz of Plantation (Fla.) American Heritage will visit Auburn for A-Day.

On Friday, though, he ran a race those in attendance won't soon forget.

That's when Schwartz, the defending state champion in the 100 and 200 meters, shocked the Pepsi Florida Relays crowd by running the 100 meters in 10.15 seconds.

How good was that?

Well, it broke the event record of 10.17 seconds set by former Gators football and track star Jeff Dempts back when he was in high school (2008).

Per per FloTrack, Schwartz's time is the fastest 100 time ever recorded in March at the high school level, the sixth-best all-time time for a high schooler and the second-best time for a high school junior, falling just .01 seconds short of the best.

Here's a clip of the race ...

That late pull away was crazy

VIP article on 4* LB Zakoby McClain's visit

This was McClain's first visit to AU and apparently it went as well as anyone could have hoped. He really clicked with T-WILL, got a long with the team and enjoyed the scrimmage. He now says we are pretty big leaders over LSU, South Carolina and Oregon. He might be back next weekend for A-Day. Says he's thinking of committing in August before his season starts but didn't sound certain.

I think he's a guy that maybe pops if he comes back next weekend. Might still wanna visit other top teams one more time before pulling trigger but it sounds like we blew him away
