quote:
4-star safety Brendon Harris, Baylor School (Tenn.)
Ranking: No. 10 safety, No. 4 in Tennessee, No. 109 overall
Skinny: Auburn continues to evaluate the safety position in the 2018 class, but there’s no question Harris is near the top.
At 6-foot-1 and 205 pounds, the Chattanooga-based safety has the size and versatility to play at an elite level. Tennessee is the early in-state favorite to land him, but Harris is also considering Auburn, Florida, Tennessee, LSU and others. Harris hasn’t revealed much about his recruitment, but the Volunteers have all three Crystal Ball predictions so far.
Auburn only brought in one true safety in the 2017 class — Carlito Gonzalez — so the position will be placed at a premium in 2018. There will be several other targets who surface as the class carries on, but Harris is a solid starting place.

quote:
3-star LB Richard Jibunor, Athens Christian (Ga.)
Ranking: No. 61 athlete, No. 72 in Georgia, No. 729 overall
Skinny: Here’s another prospect near the top of Auburn’s defensive board despite a lower ranking. Jibunor hasn’t played football long enough (started his sophomore year) to be properly scouted by most of the recruiting services. Top-tier programs have scouted him plenty, however, and they’ve decided Jibunor is one of the best raw athletes in the Southeast.
He has received heavy interest from Auburn, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, Miami and many other programs. Jibunor is starting to zero in on his favorite destinations and he hopes a final decision comes sometime before his senior season.
The 6-foot-4 linebacker returns to Auburn later this week to reunite with linebackers coach Travis Williams, who would be one of the primary reasons Jibunor would choose Auburn.
“But there’s some that really feel it so much, and I feel like I’m getting to the point where I’m figuring out one of the schools I might land, but I haven’t really decided where yet,” Jibunor said. “I just have a few schools where I really feel a lot of love from and really like the campus. I know I like Auburn a lot.”

quote:
4-star DT Coynis Miller, Jackson-Olin (Ala.)
Ranking: No. 23 defensive tackle, No. 8 in Alabama, No. 263 overall
Skinny: Miller has been recruited by Auburn for the better part of two years now. Contact with the Tigers’ staff initiated when Auburn began its recruitment of 2016 signee Tadarian Moultry, a close friend and former high school teammate of Miller. All Garner needed was one look at Miller’s 6-4, 295-pound frame to know he was SEC ready at defensive tackle.
Since then, all of Auburn’s top competitors — Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Michigan and others — got in on the fun.
Miller’s decision isn’t finalized yet, but the common belief is that it’s an Auburn-Alabama battle. Those two programs are recruiting him hard. He grew up an Alabama fan. His parents’ fandoms are split between the Iron Bowl rivalry. Also of note, another person close to Miller’s recruitment has told SEC Country that Miller is much more likely to go out of state than Moultry was.
Still, Auburn and Alabama are the likely landing spots for now. They both want Miller badly.

quote:
4-star CB Jordan Miner, Wiregrass Ranch (Fla.)
Ranking: No. 26 cornerback, No. 46 in Florida, No. 287 overall
Skinny: Miner announced on Twitter earlier this month that he won’t conduct interviews until his recruitment is over, so there won’t be a ton of new information on the 4-star cornerback until decision time.
SEC Country got a chance to see Miner play at the Under Armour camp in Orlando in February, and he was one of the best — if not the best — cover corners in attendance. Miner’s length makes it tough for wide receivers to separate from him. His agility, which he showcased with a top-8 finish in the iLLSPEED competition, gives Miner one of the best tracking speeds in the 2018 class.
At the time of the camp, Miner mentioned Auburn among his top schools along with Florida. Aside from Armour-Davis, Miner might be Auburn’s preferred option at cornerback in Brown’s first full recruiting cycle as Auburn’s defensive backs coach.

quote:
4-star OLB JJ Peterson, Colquitt County (Ga.)
Ranking: No. 1 outside linebacker, No. 6 in Georgia, No. 49 overall
Skinny: Peterson is the top outside linebacker in the 2018 class, which means every top Southeastern program wants him in its class. He hasn’t reveled much in the early going of his recruitment, but Auburn is certainly in the mix.
There is only one prediction on the 247Sports Crystal Ball. That goes to Florida, but Peterson’s recruitment is wide open.
Here’s what Auburn has going for it.
One, Williams is one of the top linebacker recruiters in the nation, and he’s looking to improve on an impressive 2017 linebacker class. Two, there is prior history between Peterson’s high school coach Rush Propst and Auburn’s staff, most notably new offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey. An OC isn’t usually a huge player in a linebacker’s recruitment, but relationships are everything in recruiting, so it will likely help.
Lastly, Peterson hasn’t said much about his recruitment, but whenever he does, Auburn is almost always mentioned.

quote:
3-star safety Juanyeh Thomas, Niceville (Fla.)
Ranking: No. 85 safety, No. 167 in Florida, No. 1,140 overall
Skinny: As mentioned with Harris previously, Brown still has evaluations to do before he determines his primary targets in the 2018 class. Thomas is an under-the-radar gem Brown has already sought out.
Thomas is a fringe 3-star prospect, meaning he’s actually a 2-star recruit on some sites. That’s blasphemous. Thomas will skyrocket up recruiting service rankings once more camps and evaluations take place. Brown didn’t need those numbers to change to know the Florida-based safety will be an SEC football player one day.
Thomas’ only other Power 5 offer is from Georgia Tech, but Florida State, Florida and Alabama are showing interest. Auburn gave the 6-foot-2, 192-pound prospect an offer on Jan. 9, which was two days after Brown officially took over as Auburn’s secondary coach.
That priority should tell you everything you need to know about how Brown perceives Thomas.

quote:
4-star OLB Quay Walker, Crisp County (Ga.)
Ranking: No. 14 outside linebacker, No. 21 in Georgia, No. 226 overall
Skinny: When Auburn signed Markaviest “Big Cat” Bryant on National Signing Day, it was considered a win. As much as it was a victory by adding the 4-star pass rusher, it also was good news with 2018 linebacker target Quay Walker.
Walker and Bryant are teammates, but more importantly, they’re close friends. The tandem has been on recruiting visits together since Walker was a freshman. They’ve seen most of the top schools in the Southeast together. So, when Bryant somewhat surprisingly chose Auburn, attention immediately turned to Walker, who was believed by many to be a 2-for-1 deal with Bryant.
Walker has downplayed the you-got-him, you-get-me narrative, but he hasn’t shied away from his continued love for the Tigers. Walker is at or near the top of Williams’ linebackers wish list.
The feeling, for now, is mutual.
“At the end of the day, I’m going to go where I think it’s the best fit for me. At the same time, it kinda played a big role where Markaviest went,” Walker said. “Y’all know I want to play with him.”

quote:
4-star ATH Nathaniel Watson, Maplesville School (Ala.)
Ranking: No. 20 athlete, No. 1o in Alabama, No. 279 overall
Skinny: It’s still not certain Watson will end up on the defensive side of the ball.
He’s participated in camps as a wide receiver and as a defensive back. Many evaluators project Watson as a linebacker. If that’s the route he goes, Watson will be a force at the position in the 2018 class. He’s been a regular visitor to Auburn — long before his stock began to rise.
That long-standing relationship will pay off come decision time. He’s not near a decision yet, he says, and part of that has to do with his position uncertainty. Once he finalizes that choice, the rest of the process will begin to play itself out for the 6-foot-3, 200-pound athlete.
Watson’s other Power 5 offers include Vanderbilt, Indiana, Illinois, Ole Miss and Mississippi State. Once more programs figure out what position Watson will play, he will likely be more highly recruited.

UGA SECCountry has article on Quay Walker. Not encouraging for AU fans... It's really long so breaking it up in order to post
The curious case of impressive 4-star OLB recruit Quay Walker (DawgNation)
The curious case of impressive 4-star OLB recruit Quay Walker (DawgNation)
quote:
Quay Walker is a South Georgia kid. He’s not the sort that picks a school based on the way the wind might be whipping through Cordele today.
That in and of itself usually seems to come with a blue collar mindset and a fanatical work ethic. But Walker has never seemed the type of kid that locks onto a school based on the way the wind might be whipping through Cordele any given day.
It might read like that, but that’s not it for the nation’s No. 14 OLB.
The 4-star recruit out of Crisp County seemed to favor Georgia at the Rising Seniors event back in December. That was traced to his interest in the state school, the mutual interest he was getting from the Bulldogs and the feeling his close friend and teammate Markaviest “Big Cat” Bryant was trending toward Athens at that time.
His teammates harped on the fact Walker was usually wearing Georgia gear at the Rising Seniors game.
But then Bryant’s eyes turned toward LSU and then Auburn. When “Big Cat” signed with Auburn on National Signing Day, the tea leaves were trending for Walker to head that way, too.
Walker said that Auburn linebackers coach Travis Williams was recruiting him with a fury that would’ve played well in a Red Bull commercial.
But Alabama and Florida are now working harder for Walker than Auburn and Georgia.
“I don’t have any leader right now,” Walker have. “But I do have top schools right now that I am getting ready to drop in a minute.”
Posted on 3/23/17 at 5:38 am to TigerPaw1
quote:
Why these decisions can be so tough
Bryant is signed and sealed with Auburn. But Auburn plus Bryant will not build the Crisp County pipeline all by itself.
“A lot of people think that I am going where ‘Big Cat’ is going but at the end of the day it is going to be my decision,” Walker said. “A lot of people have seen once everybody saw in the articles that I wanted to go play with Big Cat. I know plenty of people think that I’m going to go to Auburn but it is going to be the best decision for me, though.”
Try to pump the brakes on any “kids these days” rant and just learn what that’s been like to be sorting through potentially life-altering decisions like that.
Walker’s views are rooted in logic. He’s applying the formula that attention equals value. Recruiters are going to hit up the players they want the most. Contacts equal worth.
Alabama recruits him the hardest right now. If a school like Georgia matched that effort, then that program would quickly ascend to the top of his thought process.
“No doubt,” Walker said. “That’s what all of this recruiting is all about. I’m looking at these schools who want me. Not basically where I want to go. The school that wants me the most will basically be the best decision for me, my future and my family.”
The players they want the most are the ones they feel will help them win. It means recruit this guy, sign him and the family doesn’t need to fill out change-of-address forms anytime soon.

Breaking down Quay Walker
Bryant was an Under Armour All-American last year, but the main aspect of his game was rushing the passer. Walker is an even better player than that. His versatility and athleticism at his size are what sets him apart.
The 6-foot-3, 219-pound prospect can rush the passer, stop the run and shadow slot receivers. The term “three down linebacker” is thrown around a lot. But it really applies to a guy like Walker. He can even move down and play inside linebacker if he had to.
Walker could do it. He recently put up a 500-pound squat. But that’s not what he is built for. That’s kind of like getting a Mustang to pull cars out of ditches.

Quay Walker’s SEC phases
Was it right to say that Walker was thinking Auburn was going to be the place after his friend signed with the Tigers? Was that legit?
“It was,” Walker said. “It basically was. But at the same time that was mixed feelings for me. I basically got caught up in all of that.”
When that happened, Walker was getting messages every day from Williams.
“That wasn’t happening for me like that with any other schools then,” he said. “It was something that was sticking with me. I was stuck on what he was telling me.”
That has changed. Others schools have offered. More schools have “triggered in” on him. Which school is on him the hardest?
“That’s Alabama there,” Walker said. “No doubt about that.”
Walker basically rattles off the defensive staff when discussing his relationships with the Tide. Defensive backs coach Derrick Ansley serves as his primary recruiter.
“I get on the phone and I talk to coach (Nick) Saban, (Alabama defensive coordinator) coach (Jeremy) Pruitt and I talk to the outside linebackers coach (Tosh Lupoi) a lot,” Walker said. “I talk to all those guys. I went down there on a visit and they told me everybody and they showed me that I was one of the top recruits they were trying to get in.”
“They show me everything,” Walker said. “They show me how explosive I am and can play a big role by coming in and playing early.”
Walker will not enroll early in January of 2018.
He also felt very strongly about Florida, too. Alabama and Florida continue to be the two schools which recruit him the hardest at this time.
“Florida is very high with me, too,” he said. “They are right behind Alabama or probably neck-and-neck right with Alabama. Florida is right there, too.”
The Gators hit him up with their strong pitch from offensive line coach Brad Davis and that message goes all the way down the staff.
“Florida has always been like that with me,” Walker said.
When he drops that list of top schools, it will likely contain Alabama, Auburn, Florida LSU and Georgia. But there will be more than that.

Quay Walker’s thoughts on UGA
Georgia clearly led for Walker in December. But it looked like the Bulldogs dropped a few rungs in mid-February.
“Nothing really happened with me and Georgia,” Walker said. “It was basically just comparing. Comparing them to other schools which were contacting me every day. I wasn’t getting that from Georgia. The position coach at Georgia (outside linebackers coach Kevin Sherrer) would reach out to me but nothing like these other schools.”
He did speak to Kirby Smart on the phone about two weeks ago. But he has yet to speak with defensive coordinator Mel Tucker.
“Nothing has changed with me and Georgia,” Walker said. “I still love Georgia. That’s what most people don’t realize. Just because ‘Big Cat’ isn’t going to Georgia doesn’t mean I will not. I love Georgia. I still love Georgia.”
He said there was “no doubt” still a big chance he would go to Georgia.
“I still wear all my G’s around all the time,” Walker said.
It is also worth noting that 4-star DB Trey Dean is really high on Georgia at this time. He was clad in all-Georgia the other day at the MVP Camp at Lovejoy High School.
Dean continues to say that he will play with Walker in college. Walker even acknowledged that pledge they made to each other that week at Rising Seniors.
“I like how competitive he is,” Walker said. “I like the way we would be together on the same team. We would pick each other up and encourage one another a whole lot. We talked about playing together a lot really want to play with one another at the next level.”
It is only March. That’s what recruits say and what reporters usually print at this time. But the words from both young men seem stronger than Charmin.
Dean also made the prediction that Walker would not end up at Auburn. He said that the scheme doesn’t fit Walker’s game. Auburn has also only offered just Walker.
It sounds like the more logical package deal with Walker right now would include Dean. Not Bryant.
Screw this Dean kid....
So it sounds like Walker prioritizes school that communicates the most. That used to be us but now it's Bama. If we wanna land em T-WILL needs to start blowing kids phone up again. The good thing is this recruitment is probably gonna be a long one so plenty of time to jump back on top but hate to hear we went from leader to basically 3rd or 4th

Here's LSU SECCountry's guy opinion on Joiner
quote:
How do you see Harold Joiner fitting into this Tigers offense? (@DrewChamplin)
Drew, of course, is referencing one of the six running backs that LSU has offered since naming Tommie Robinson its running backs coach and recruiting coordinator.
Robinson is in the midst of pursuing elite national talent in Florida, Alabama, Texas and even Ohio over the past month. He lured Joiner onto campus on March 10 before the 3-star running back left with an offer in hand.
When SEC Country caught up with the Alabama tailback, Joiner explained how Robinson envisioned using him in the LSU offense:
“The coaches said I could be starting my freshman year. I feel like I can replace Guice after he leaves.”
So, to answer your question, Drew, how would Joiner fit?
Joiner’s video shows he can play out of a shotgun offense, which is essential in Matt Canada‘s scheme. Joiner also can change direction with ease, catch passes out of the backfield and run over would-be defenders. The latter comes naturally with such dynamic size.
He would be an absolutely terrific fit in LSU’s new-look offense. His 6-foot-3, 218-pound frame doesn’t hinder his ability to do anything you’d expect out of a three-down back. In fact, if anything, I’m confident he could absorb blows better than most tailbacks the Tigers are recruiting, which is essential when you’re lining up against defenses such as Alabama and Florida.

Mobile defensive end Andres Fox starting to narrow recruitment down (AL.com)
quote:
One of the hottest prospects in the nation this spring has been Mobile Christian defensive end Andres Fox, as major offers are piling up, one after the other.
Auburn offered last fall. Alabama has offered this spring. Schools as far away as USC and Oregon have also offered the 6-foot-4, 232-pound Fox, who helped lead Mobile Christian to the Class 3A state championship last fall.
He said on Sunday at the New Orleans Opening Regional that it's been overwhelming, and his recent narrowing to six schools - Alabama, Auburn, Florida, USC, Florida State and Georgia - can help ease that.
Fox, a three-star recruit on the 247Sports composite, earned Final 5 defensive lineman honors at the regional.
Schools like Fox based on his potential and how quick he is off the ball. Here's what he said about his top six on Sunday.
Alabama - "They tell me that that's where all the great players go and if you want to be great, go here. It's stable and Nick Saban isn't going anywhere."
Auburn - "I really like (assistant) Rodney Garner and their defense is really good. I think they're going to have a great season this year."
Alabama likes Fox at outside linebacker, but thinks he can also grow into a defensive end. Auburn likes Fox at the BUCK/defensive end position.
Florida State - "I like Jimbo Fisher. It's stable and he's not going anywhere."
Georgia - "I like (assistant) Coach (Kevin) Sherrer. He sends a lot of outside linebackers to the league."
USC - "I just built up a great relationship with (assistant) Coach (Kenechi) Udeze."
Florida - "I went to the camp and I really liked how (assistant) Coach (Chris) Rumph was coaching."
Fox said stability was a big thing he's looking for. He isn't sure when he'll make a commitment, but added that it could come before the season.

Key WR target talks Tigers, commitment timetable (247)
quote:
Auburn is a major player for 4-star receiver target Matthew Hill of Snellville (Ga.) Brookwood. There is little doubt about that.
He grew up a Tigers fan. He is extremely close with the coaching staff.
“They’re great over there,” Hill said. “Coach (Gus) Malzahn, he’s a great guy. And he’s very honest. So if you say you want to play receiver and he doesn’t think you’re a receiver he’s going to tell you. With receivers coach Kodi Burns, he’s a young guy so I know he knows what he’s talking about because he just came out of college football. He’s going to know the development that we need to have to go to the next level.”
The 6-feet-2, 175-pound Hill is the No. 28 receiver nationally in the 247Sports Composite. He’s also a major Auburn target.
Hill most recently visited the Tigers in January.
Florida, Florida State, South Carolina and Tennessee are among the other programs also heavily in the mix.
With the Tigers, Hill seems excited about the future of the offense.
“They definitely told me they’re going to become a passing team because of the new quarterback they’re getting,” Hill said. “With the new quarterback coming in they said he’s going to be a good (player). He’s going to impact the team a lot.”
According to Hill, he hopes to be on campus again soon.
“They want me to get up there for the spring game and maybe a practice or two,” Hill said. “And I think they want me up there for a camp.”
When might a commitment come for Hill?
“I hope to be committed definitely before the season starts,” Hill said.

Solid spring game could boost Auburn recruiting (247)
Audio in the article
quote:
Let's face it, the Auburn offense hasn't been great the past two seasons with the exception of a six-game winning streak last year when a healthy Sean White quarterbacked the Tigers to a strong showing. Otherwise, though, it's been pretty blah for the most part.
During the offseason, changes occurred that potentially could give Auburn a boost.
First, the Tigers landed quarterback Jarrett Stidham in December. Formerly of Baylor, he's battling White for the starting job. Regardless of who wins it, the Tigers will have two proven players at the position in 2017.
Earlier this year, offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee left for Connecticut. He was replaced by Chip Lindsey -- and Lindsey, according to Tigers coach Gus Malzahn -- has been given pretty much full control of the offense. What will the end result be? Well, we'll get our first real taste on April 8. That's the day of Auburn's A-Day spring game.
While that's still a few weeks away, today AuburnUndercover.com recruiting insider Keith Niebuhr and SEC Recruiting Buzz Co-host Kipp Adams examine what impact a good performance that day by the Auburn offense might have on recruiting.

The awkward side of recruiting (Rivals)
Kind of a funny article. I have to think there are plenty of awkward moments for both sides in recruiting at time
quote:
Cynicism isn’t difficult to manufacture when it comes to recruiting news.
High praise is the norm and the talking points seem rehearsed. Every player loved his visit. Every school has a family atmosphere. Every prospect can see himself playing for every coach. It’s the land of high-fives, fist bumps and bro-hugs.
Everything is always perfect … unless it’s not.
The awkward moments and off-putting experiences are often glossed over in favor of discussing facilities or uniforms or something of the sort. There are, of course, reasons for this – plenty of them actually - but that doesn’t mean the eye roll-inducing part of the process doesn’t exist.
Even Rivals100 prospects such as Amari Gainer have lived through it.
“I went somewhere for a visit and got there a little late, and the whole thing was weird from there,” Gainer said. “The coaches, like, didn’t talk to me. It was a weird visit from there. I was pretty much on my own. It felt weird.”
The incidents are by no means isolated. In the last few weeks alone, Ohio State recently sent four-star wide receiver target Jacob Copeland a piece of recruiting mail addressed to “Jason Copeland.” Then there’s the Justin Watkins situation, which the Rivals100 athlete says resulted in his flip from Florida State to Texas earlier this month.
“Some coaches seem, like, stuck up,” Watkins said. “It’s like they don’t want to talk to you. Then, with Florida State they would come but seem in a rush to leave. I never even got a chance to talk to [head coach] Jimbo [Fisher]. One day, I was at lunch and they called me to get me to talk to Jimbo. They told me that he was ready to talk to me. So I called him back, then they tell me that he had left campus already and couldn’t talk.”
Watkins’ flip wasn’t the result of awkwardness or missed connections, though. There’s also a dispute over just where FSU wanted to play him. Watkins is adamant about playing wide receiver in college and will do so at Texas. And while those close to the FSU program says the plan was always to allow the four-star athlete to play wideout, Watkins disputes that narrative.
According to him, the things he was seeing from FSU painted a very different picture of the future. The positional sticking point isn’t unique to Watkins and FSU. It happens among dozens of programs and prospects each year. The situation here just serves as a recent example.
“They would always just try to push me off to the defensive backs coach,” Watkins said. “I would want to talk to Jimbo or talk to the wide receivers coach, but they always came at me with the defensive coaches.”
The relationship between coach and prospect is inherently awkward, after all. Attempting to persuade a teenager to attend a school he’s sometimes never heard of is no simple task.
The process isn’t a string of smooth sales pitches. Not by a long shot.
“There are these quiet moments… and they happen a lot,” said three-star offensive lineman Nick Lewis, who holds offers from Missouri, Iowa State, Colorado State and others. “Some coaches just look at you and it’s weird. You just look back. You’re sitting there looking at each other and nobody talks. That’s the weirdest part probably.”
Recruiting will continue to string along half-truths. Players don’t like taking shots at their potential future homes, and coaches are outlawed from publicly telling their sides of most stories.
Publicly, visits will always be “an 11 on a 1-to-10 scale,” but the truth will almost always exist somewhere in the middle.
“One of my visits, I went to a school and the coach touring me kept saying I'll be stupid if I don't commit,” said Rivals250 athlete Gregory Rousseau. "He actually told me I won't make an impact anywhere else. I didn’t like that very much.”
Kind of a funny article. I have to think there are plenty of awkward moments for both sides in recruiting at time

He recently visited LSU and came away very impressed specifically by their DB coach Corey Raymond. He also has visits setup for Texas A&M, Texas and Alabama

3* ATH Kolbi Fuqua tells KN that AU leads. He could play either safety or WR but told AU he would prefer to play WR so Burns has taken lead on his recruitment. He was interested in Ole Miss but recent NCAA troubles has scared him away. Apparently he is in talks with FSU and an offer could come. Plans to be at A-Day and doesn't really have a timetable for his commitment.
