Meh.

That degree will likely open up the first door a lot easier than most but, after that, resume and experience and references mean a lot more than the name on a diploma.

OP is updated along with the class ranks in 2nd post. AU is top 10 on all 3 services & top 3 in SEC on all 3 as well. I think AU has a shot at finishing #3 this year in SEC behind Bama & UGA. Probably depends on how the three of AU/LSU/A&M finish

So Quay Walker & Michael Parker are not signing early for Bama. My guess is Parker might end up taking a grayshirt depending on the numbers for Bama so he will have to wait & see how things unfold. I don't think there's a chance of us flipping him. Obviously Walker is in play tho I think he sticks with Bama right now

3* OT Walker Culver commits to Virginia Tech. Was expected to OV in January. I think it's another sign pointing to AU taking one of Carvin/Goss this week

If what you said about Goss's upside is true, then he sounds like a very intriguing prospect to take. He is 6'7" and only 270 so one would hope that he would have a lot of room to get much bigger.

KN just posted update from Wiltfong. Apparently both Michigan and Miami are very high on him and he has connections to both programs. Despite that AU looks to be the favorite to land him

KN just had the same thought I did. Said he thinks AU might be waiting on Carvin before taking Goss. I think chances are high we get a commitment by Wednesday from either

Newkirk 'finally' an Auburn Tiger (Rivals)
quote:

AUBURN | Thirty months after committing to Auburn, Daquan Newkirk officially and finally will be a Tiger.

“Long. Very long,” Newkirk said of his wait. “It’s good for it to finally be over.”

Newkirk committed to Auburn on June 18, 2015. He was an under-the-radar recruit who had an impressive performance at an Auburn camp the summer before his senior year at First Academy in Orlando, Fla. The Tigers offered. Newkirk accepted. His journey to Auburn began, but it wouldn’t end soon.

Newkirk failed to qualify out of high school and was forced to attend Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. He redshirted his first year, played his second and never wavered on where he wanted to attend his third year.

“Georgia wanted me to come,” Newkirk said. “There were a lot of schools, but they knew how deep I’m in with Auburn so it was pointless.”

The Tigers also never wavered.

“Through my journey a lot of schools turned their backs, but Auburn didn’t,” Newkirk said. “That’s very special to me.”

Newkirk took an official visit to Auburn over the weekend. It’s a visit he didn’t leave. The big, defensive lineman, who now weighs in the 285-pound range, moved in to his dormitory on Auburn’s campus and will participate in his first practice on Monday.

“Overwhelming and also happy,” Newkirk said. “I’m still in shock. I’ll be nervous (at practice), but I’ll also be ready.”

He’s had 30 months to prepare.

“I definitely think I can get in the rotation very soon,” Newkirk said.

There’s no reason to doubt him. Newkirk, as a redshirt freshman at MGCCC, had 48 tackles, including 28 solos, nine tackles-for-loss, six quarterback pressures, an interception, a forced fumble and three pass breakups.

He expects to play a similar role in Auburn’s defense as Marlon Davidson and Nick Coe.

Newkirk will have three years to play three at Auburn, and that begins Monday. Finally.

Auburn commit Richard Jibunor strategically scheduled official visit around Kayode Oladele’s plans (SECCountry)
quote:

Richard Jibunor scheduled OV around Kayode Oladele
AUBURN, Ala. — In his typical selfless style, Richard Jibunor timed his official visit for the greater good of the Auburn recruiting class.

Jibunor could’ve taken an official visit for the Iron Bowl or the weeks that followed, but he waited. He was gauging the recruiting interest of one of his close friends, Kayode Oladele, a fellow native Nigerian who had shown interest in Auburn ever since de-committing from Florida State. When Oladele postponed a few official visit plans, Jibunor remained patient with his own.

Once Oladele set his, Jibunor made sure to be there on his as well, side by side to ensure a commitment.

“It was special. One of the main reasons I came this weekend was because Kayode was taking his official visit this weekend,” Jibunor said. “I knew he had been going places and we had been talking about it for a long time. I kind of planned it around him. Kayode was the main reason why I chose this weekend.”

The two were inseparable this weekend, just as they were during their overnight stays for the Iron Bowl. All the way up until Sunday morning — when Oladele left and announced his commitment — the tandem were constantly together on their official visits.

A few weeks ago, the Sunday after the Iron Bowl, Oladele told SEC Country there was an 80 percent chance he’d eventually commit to the Tigers. Jibunor said, by Saturday night, his confidence had grown to 98 percent.

All that was left was Oladele sealing the deal, which he did.

“I was happy. It has been a work in progress. Today, it turned out to be successful. I’m so hyped up. Him being a Nigerian, too, and coming in the same year and trying to hold each other accountable and just fighting to get better,” Jibunor said. “It has been for a week now that he’s been thinking, but he wasn’t really sure about it. Last night, he was pretty much 98 percent. Today, he just became 100 percent. We’re so excited about it.”

I need to check what Nigerian prospects are available in 2019 & go ahead & add them to the commit list

What we know about Jalen Goss’ official visit to Auburn

As you’ll notice, there were several SEC Country updates regarding Auburn official visitors this past weekend. Yet, there hasn’t been much reported on the uncommitted prospect who visited but didn’t commit over the weekend.

That’s Jalen Goss.

He officially visited over the weekend with family and had a great stay, spending a lot of his time with Auburn defensive tackle Derrick Brown. Goss has been to Auburn three times in the last month, if that gives you any indication of where Goss is leaning. Michigan also is in the picture here. Goss took an official visit the previous weekend.

I’ve been told Goss will likely announce something before the early signing period begins, so by Tuesday. One thing to monitor, a source said, is Jerome Carvin. Auburn likes both at tackle, and Carvin — though he won’t announce until Wednesday — will likely come to his decision Monday. Auburn is waiting to hear the result of that one before going forward with Goss.

For what it’s worth, Goss looks great physically. He camped with the Tigers over the summer, and at the camp, coach Gus Malzahn and offensive line coach Herb Hand spent extensive time with strength and conditioning coach Ryan Russell trying to decide if the smaller tackle had the frame to grow into an SEC tackle.

They decided he could at the time and waited on him throughout the season. Auburn liked what it saw enough to host him several times down the stretch, including the last official visit of the early cycle.

Coynis Miller still not signing but visited Auburn

Let’s clear one thing up: Coynis Miller visited Auburn, not Tennessee, this past weekend.

The 4-star defensive tackle commit from Birmingham, Ala., was rumored to be a potential official visitor at Tennessee over the weekend. Miller didn’t make the trip to Knoxville, but he still made a visit. He was spotted on Sunday in Auburn after an overnight stay with some of the recruits who were on official visits or set to move in as early enrollees.

Miller won’t use the early signing period, just as he said all along, but there isn’t a big reason to panic about this one yet.

While Auburn would love for Miller to sign early, he’s still likely to take a few visits in January, including to Alabama and Tennessee. The Tigers aren’t concerned about his commitment at this time, nor should they be. He’s rehashed multiple times that he’s committed to Auburn.

It’s possible those January visits never materialize, but if they do, it will all be part of Miller’s original plan that was approved by the Auburn staff.

Don't be shocked if he visits Oregon. Cristobal was his main recruiter @ Bama & honestly if he had stayed I think Miller might have ended up with the Tide

Expected signing dates for Auburn recruits

These are tentative for a few reasons. Some of the commits have already moved in to participate in bowl practices, but they will leave campus for signing ceremonies or other personal reasons to finalize their letters of intent. It’s possible schedules change throughout this week, but here is an early rough draft of when to expect these Auburn commits to become Auburn signees:

Dec. 20: Joey Gatewood, Christian Tutt, Asa Martin, Zakoby McClain, Kam Stutts, Josh Marsh, Shedrick Jackson, Shaun Shivers, Daquan Newkirk, Michael Harris

Dec. 21: Jalil Irvin, Jamien Sherwood, Quindarious Monday

Unspecified: Richard Jibunor, Kayode Oladele, Seth Williams, Kolbi Fuqua

Not signing: Matthew Hill, Coynis Miller, Arryn Siposs

24 months after committing, Joey Gatewood ready to sign (247)
quote:

As the early signing period approached, other programs continued to recruit 4-star quarterback Joey Gatewood, even though he has been committed to Auburn for 24 months.

Butt according to the standout from St. Johns (Fla.) Bartram Trail, he never wavered.

“There was a lot of schools, but I don’t want to get into that,” Gatewood said. “I’m going to be at Auburn.”

Pretty soon, it will be official.

Gatewood, who officially visited the Tigers this weekend, will sign a Letter of Intent Wednesday.

“I’m not making a big deal. Just going to sign the papers and send it off,” Gatewood said.

He added, “Exciting. It’s all for sure done with. You know, all my schoolwork is done. I’m excited to get here in a couple of weeks.”

An early enrollee, Gatewood hoped to start at Auburn this week. But he won’t have that chance.

“That was the plan, but I have two regular classes at my school and my school doesn’t get out until this upcoming week,” Gatewood said. “I’ll be here Jan. 7, though.”

While at Auburn this weekend, Gatewood spent time with Auburn’s quarterbacks.

“I love them all,” Gatewood said. “I love Malik (Willis) and Jarrett (Stidham). They’re cool.”

Additionally, the visit gave him a chance to bond more with offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey.

“It’s grown a lot,” Gatewood said of their relationship. “Coach Lindsey is a great guy and I feel like I trust him with my future.”

When he arrives in January, Gatewood will room with 2018 running back commit Asa Martin, also an early enrollee.

As for the Auburn class?

“We’ve got a couple more surprises coming,” Gatewood said. “I’m excited without a doubt. We’re not done yet.”

Agreed

FWIW more I watch tape on both ( @ me acting all like I know shite) think I would rather have Goss than Carvin. I think Carvin is better suited at guard. Goss has a longer ways to go but I think the payoff is much bigger with him. Dude is super light on his feet for being 6'7"

Need one of Barnes or Gouraige no matter what. I think Barnes is an OT even tho some like him at OG. Combo of Carvin/Goss & Gouraige/Barnes would make this a solid OL class

I keep hearing about Barnes and Gouraige, but truly, how serious are either of them about Auburn?

AU is a real threat for Gouraige. Don't think he's sold on new UF staff & guy he was closes to just left for MIZ

Not sure on Barnes yet. UNC might now be team to beat but he plans on taking an OV to AU in January. AU could make a move then

I think we get one of em but I also tend to think good things will happen

Broward 5A-1A football offensive player of the year: Shaun Shivers, Chaminade-Madonna senior (Sun-Sentinel)
quote:

Before Shaun Shivers got his junior season started, he had the goal of rushing for 2,000 yards – or "two bags," as he called it.

The speedy 5-foot-7 Chaminade-Madonna running back and Auburn commit ended up half a bag shy, going for 1,503. He set out to go for it again as a senior, and this time, he got it.

Having already clinched that mark before the Lions’ Class 3A state championship victory over Oxbridge Academy, Shivers finished with 2,241 rushing yards and 27 touchdowns to go back-to-back as Broward 5A-1A Offensive Player of the Year.

"I’ve been striving for that goal since last year," Shivers said. "I just wanted to set a mark for myself and go out with a bang my last year."

The biggest challenge for Shivers was not running well enough in 13 games to reach 2,000 – it was making the most of early carries in games. With Chaminade winning so many contests in blowout fashion, Shivers wouldn’t be used in many second halves.

"Every opportunity I got I had to do what I do best and take advantage of it," he said.

Shivers also took advantage of the opportunity to return to the title game and this time lead the Lions to victory, running for 216 yards against a tough Oxbridge defense to get Chaminade the victory.

Shivers ran for 292 yards and three touchdowns in the regular-season finale against University School, 175 and three touchdowns against Miami Booker T. Washington and 264 and four against Piper in a season of many outstanding performances.

Shivers committed to Auburn during his junior season and has not waivered on that pledge as the Tigers were one of major college football programs that were not deterred by his height in recruiting him.

Even if KJ leaves this year, I am pretty excited about our RBs next year: Shivers, Asa Martin, Miller, Kam Martin and Devan Barrett. If KJ comes back, we will pretty much be an elite unit.
