Jalyn Armour-Davis, CB, Mobile (Ala.) St. Paul’s Episcopal: This is a real battle between Auburn and FSU that sounds like it could go either way. So why does Armour-Davis make this list? Because there's a very good chance he'll have a decision sometime this summer, which is right around the corner. The Tigers need an elite corner in the class and Armour-Davis might be their top target. The staff at Auburn thinks he is a great fit with the culture of the program.

quote:
Richard Jibunor, LB/Buck, Athens Christian (Ga.): Auburn appears to be in fairly good shape for the 4-star recruit at the moment, but he hasn't visited in awhile. The Tigers were in Athens last week to stop by Jibunor's school and will return soon. Georgia has the potential to push the Tigers, but hasn't yet started to heavily pursue him. Alabama could be another team to watch. Right now, though, the Tigers have the lead in our opinion. He's close with the staff -- and likes the fact the Tigers have two Nigerian natives (that's where he's from) on the roster.

Juanyeh Thomas, CB, Niceville (Fla.): A few weeks ago, we thought this was shaping up to be an Auburn-Florida battle. But there is some intel that suggests the Tigers are pursuing him much harder than the Gators. That could work to their advantage. Thomas told us last month he could have a commitment sometime in the near future. He'll visit the Tigers after spring practice ends.

Zakoby McClain, LB, Valdosta (Ga.): Auburn is McClain's official leader, but programs such as LSU and South Carolina remain very much in the hunt. If Auburn pushes, the Tigers could be tough to beat because of McClain's close relationship with linebackers coach Travis Williams. He has only visited the Tigers once. They'd like him to return June 3 for Big Cat Weekend.
Would be sweet to get Monday, Fox & McClain all on board at BCW. Doubt all 3 commit then but could be a chance if they all make the trip

Apparently we are in the hunt for 4* OT Qadir White from New York. Plans on visiting Georgia this summer and also wants to stop by Auburn. Says that the five schools standing out right now Penn State, Syracuse, Maryland, Georgia & AU. I am guessing connections Herb Hand built while at Penn State is making this one happen

Kevin Steele and Rodney Garner visited 4* LB Quay Walker on Monday this week. Apparently that day was also his birthday. KN says that Walker is both a LB/Buck target and said wouldn't be surprised if he ends up just being a Buck player because he keeps growing. AU is still in the hunt though Bama appears to be his current leader

Transfers impact Auburn's QB recruiting (247)
quote:
With Woody Barrett announcing Monday that he will transfer from Auburn, the Tigers are left with three scholarship quarterbacks for the 2017 season -- redshirt sophomore Jarrett Stidham, redshirt junior Sean White and true freshman Malik Willis. Additionally, they have former quaterback John Franklin III, a senior, on the roster. He's now at receiver.
What does this mean for Auburn's recruiting efforts for the 2018 class?
Well, Barrett's departure won't change the number of quarterbacks the Tigers will try to sign. It's two. It was one before another quarterback, Tyler Queen, announced in March that he was transferring.
That said, there now is little wiggle room.
Signing two probably becomes a must. First and foremost, every college team must have quarterback depth. It's absolutely essential.
There are lots of unknown variables, too. Could Stidham, should he win the starting job, be good enough to leave early for the NFL? Could Sean White, if he isn't the starter, leave as a grad transfer after the 2017 season?
What Auburn can't afford to do is wait. And ... the Tigers haven't.
Right now, the Tigers have one quarterback already comitted. That's 4-star recruit Joey Gatewood of Bartram Trail High near Jacksonville, Fla. Meanwhile, they're recruiting a handful of others -- and it's very possible some more names may emerge.
On the road this spring, Auburn offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Chip Lindsey has been a busy guy.
AuburnUndercover.com can confirm Lindsey visited three quarterback targets last week -- 5-star Penn State commit Justin Fields, 4-star Ohio State commit Emory Jones and 3-star prospect Jarren Williams. All three live in Georgia.
Here is what we know about each of these targets ...

Joey Gatewood, Bartram Trail (Fla.): The 4-star recruit commited to Auburn in December of 2015 and remains solid. He has actively recruited for the Tigers on Twitter and apparently is okay with them needing to land a second quarterback.

quote:
Justin Fields, Kennesaw (Ga.) Harrison: The No. 1 dual-threat quarterback nationally in the 247Sports Composite, Fields is committed to Penn State but others continue to actively pursue him. The schools to watch: Florida, FSU, Georgia and Auburn. The Tigers visited him last week and Fields has given Auburn positive feedback.
FWIW a few CB picks have been coming in for UF recently on Fields. Sounds like they are trending right now. Need to get him on campus, hopefully for BCW

quote:
Emory Jones, Franklin (Ga.) Heard County: Auburn visited the longtime 4-star Ohio State commit last week and he has regularly communicated with the Tigers since Chip Lindsey arrived as offensive coordinator in January. Auburn is the closest Power 5 school to his home. At this time, he seems solid to the Buckeyes.

quote:
Gerry Bohanon, Earle (Ark.): The 4-star recruit, who Auburn offered earlier this year, visited the Tigers this spring and was impressed by the program -- and how they would use him. He has been to Auburn three times and has a good feel for the school. If the Tigers push, they'd probably have a shot. Right now, he seems fairly wide open.

quote:
Jarren Williams, Lawrenceville (Ga.) Central Gwinnett: Auburn offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey watched Williams, a 3-star recruit, throw last Friday and Williams' coach said the session went well. He told AuburnUndercover the Tigers could be close to offering, but Lindsey had to confer with Tigers coach Gus Malzahn -- who currently is on a mission, he said. Williams recently de-committed from Kentucky and has schools such as Alabama, Florida, FSU, LSU, Ole Miss and Tennessee after him.
Malzahn is back from Dominican Republic so will be interesting to see if we finally offer Williams

KN had VIP article up this week on Joey Gatewood and how he feels about AU pursuing another QB. At first he was a little upset but now understands that Auburn really has no choice. Lindsey told him that he would prefer to take only 1 and that 1 be him but now he has to get another guy. That seemed to go over well with Gatewood. He says at end of day he needs to make best decision for him but right now he still feels 100% committed to Auburn. Apparently UGA, Louisville, Mississippi State & Florida all visited him this week
FWIW I think as long as Malzahn is at AU, he sticks. If Fields were to flip to AU though that could make things interesting but that doesn't seem incredibly likely right now with the Gators trending

KN says a QB to watch is 4* Brevin White out of California. He's a pro style QB that Lindsey has been in communication with and plan on visiting him in next few weeks. Apparently he talks a lot with Lindsey and knows him from when he was at Arizona State. White says he has a very high level of interest in AU. KN says that AU is apparently putting a high level of emphasis on accuracy for the next QB so don't be surprised to see some pro style names pop up
I have a hard time seeing a QB from California coming to AU but who knows, Tennessee somehow just pulled it off

Tigers contending for 4-star OL William Barnes (247)
Would love to land this dude but don't see anyone beating Florida right now
quote:
APOPKA, Fla. -- They 247Sports Crystal Ball predicts Williams Barnes, a 4-star offensive tackle/guard from Apopka, to Florida by a large margin. In fact, all 13 picks say he'll be a Gator.
But Auburn isn't quiting. And, Barnes continues to listen -- and like the Tigers.
Offensive line coach Herb Hand is a big reason why.
"He's an outstanding coach," Barnes said. "And I like the way he takes care of his guys. That's definitely something I really like about him."
One of Apopka's former stars, Chandler Cox, is a fullback for the Tigers. What has Cox told Barnes about Auburn?
"That it's an amazing school and there's nothing like it," Barnes said. "He said if I ever get a chance to get back up there, they'll take good care of me."
Auburn has two offensive linemen committed and would like to add at least two more.
The Tigers like Barnes as a swing guy -- meaning he could play tackle or guard. He's the No. 44 overall recuit nationally in the 247Sports Composite.
Barnes will release a top 10 in June. Auburn will make the cut.
Other schools of note besides Florida and Auburn: FSU, Miami and North Carolina.

KN says 4* RB Asa Martin might be visiting today
Posted on 5/13/17 at 12:18 pm to TigerPaw1
KN reported that AU visited 3* CB Kendric Torain this week. Really like that kid's film
Posted on 5/13/17 at 12:21 pm to TigerPaw1
Auburn is apparently still after 5* RB James Cook who is committed to FSU. He's Dalvin Cook's little brother but seems to be looking around even tho he claims he's 100% committed. Larry Porter visited him recently and plans to visit Auburn this summer. Says right now that UGA is school recruiting him the hardest but that Bama, UF & LSU are also in the mix. He plans to announce his final decision at the Army All-American Game, so ya definitely solid

KN had VIP article up on 4* WR Anthony Schwartz as well. AU is one of his top schools though Florida appears to be the leader. We were the first out of state school he visited and he liked it. Schwartz says he talks mostly with Kodi Burns & they speak almost every day. He also plans on running track so he is being recruited by our track coach as well who is trying to sell him on being a crucial part of building the program. Schwartz says AU is one of the few programs where you can talk seriously about winning it all and likes where the team is headed for the future

Auburn commit to run in prestigious event (247)
quote:
Fresh of his two second-place finishes in the 100 and 200 meters at the Florida Class 2A finals, Auburn all-purpose back Shaun Shivers of Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna has been invited to compete in a pair of prestious events -- the Nike Elite Spring Camp and the Prefontaine Classic.
The latter -- the The Prefontaine Classic -- is one of the country's premier track and field meets. It's held May 26-27 at the University of Oregon and is named in honor of legendary distance runner Steve Prefontaine.
Shivers will run the 200 at that event. That's considered his top event.
He has a best 200 time of 20.91 seconds.
"I am very excited to compete in that event. I am going to be racing against the nation'ss fastest 200 runners," Shivers said.
At state recently, Shivers clocked times of 10.78 in the 100 and 21.57 in the 200. There was a head-wind during both events, which affected the times of all competitors.
As for college, Shivers, the No. 7 athlete in the 247Sports Composite, intends to be a dual-sport athlete.
"Yes I will be running at Auburn," he said.
