Picking up from yesterday, Arkansas receiver commit Davion Dozier appears to be the perfect fit in Fayetteville. Possessing a 6-foot-3 plus frame, Dozier’s flashed a little more savviness and suddenness as a route runner than was expected coming into this week. With strong hands, a wide catch radius, and more meat left on the bone, Dozier is the type of prospect Sam Pittman continues to make a living off of.

A tall, lengthy prospect in the secondary for Team Alabama this week, Pinson Valley (Ala.) four-star safety TJ Metcalf recently rose to four-star status, but could enter the Rivals250 discussion if he can cap his solid week in practice with a good showing on Saturday.

In doing mostly one-on-one matchup situations during practice this week, Metcalf shows a solid ability to lock down lengthy pass catchers as well as twitchy playmakers. In work from the defensive backfield, Metcalf shows a solid ability to cover a large range on the field from midfield to the boundary.

The Arkansas commit will cap his prep career with Saturday’s main event. – Harris

Former North Carolina quarterback Jacolby Criswell has committed to transfer to the Arkansas Razorbacks. The Morrilton (Ark.) native went public with his decision on Saturday during an official visit with the Hogs, becoming their second transfer commitment since the portal window opened on December 5.

Criswell chose a return to the Natural State over Wisconsin, where former UNC offensive coordinator Phil Longo now serves under the same title and planned to host his former quarterback for an official visit next weekend.

As a four-star recruit in the Class of 2020, Criswell was offered by former Arkansas head coach Chad Morris but was lightly recruited as the Hogs opted to take the coach’s son, Chandler Morris. Criswell went on to play in six games as a true freshman, completing 3 of 4 passes for 16 yards with one interception and 26 rushing yards on 9 attempts.

In 2021, Criswell played in five games and went 13 of 21 for 179 yards and a touchdown while adding 68 yards and another score with his legs. He was limited to four games in 2022, going 2 for 6 for 9 yards with 39 rushing yards.

The Morrilton product was considered a redshirt-sophomore in 2022 but also has an extra year due to covid-19. He plans to enroll at the UA in January.

Criswell is the younger brother of former Razorback and current San Francisco 49ers standout linebacker Dre Greenlaw, who ranks 14th in program history with 321 career tackles.

Criswell is seen as a welcome addition to an Arkansas quarterback room that currently includes just one scholarship player in 2-year starter KJ Jefferson, who has already announced his intentions to return in 2023. The Razorbacks will add a third former four-star to the mix in January when Class of 2023 commitment Malachi Singleton makes his way to campus.

Arkansas also has two notable former walk-ons in the position group in Cade Fortin and Kade Renfro, who were scholarship quarterbacks at previous Power 5 stops.

In addition to Criswell, the Hogs are hosting two other transfer targets on official visits in former Iowa wide receiver Arland Bruce and former Texas A&M-Commerce wide receiver Andrew Armstrong.

Former Texas A&M-Commerce wide receiver Andrew Armstrong has committed to transfer to the Arkansas Razorbacks, he announced Sunday evening following an official visit in Fayetteville (Ark.).

"I came to Arkansas to win," Armstrong said. "I came to Arkansas just because the coaches make me feel like it's home. I'm all the way in Dallas, so that's like 5 hours or something like that. It feels like home being here.

"Just the teammates and players. They were very honest about everything. I was asking all of them questions. Like I said, the facilities, the food, everything."

Armstrong, 6-6, 189, chose the Hogs over Missouri, Miami, Wisconsin, Colorado, Louisville, NC State, Utah, Virginia Tech, Washington State, Syracuse, Indiana, Purdue, Kansas, Western Kentucky, Sam Houston State, Louisiana Tech and North Texas. He was recruited to Arkansas by second-year wide receivers coach Kenny Guiton.

The big receiver was scheduled to visit Missouri next weekend but will instead shut down his recruitment and prepare to enroll at Arkansas in January. He will have two years of eligibility remaining.

Armstrong signed with Commerce in 2019 as an unranked prospect out of Dallas (Texas) Bishop Dunne. He redshirted in his first season and had to sit out another year in 2020 when the school canceled its football season altogether due to Covid-19.

Armstrong played in 9 games in 2021, recording 15 receptions for 297 yards and 3 touchdowns for a team that finished 7-4 overall and 5-2 in conference play. He then emerged as one of the nation’s top transfer targets in 2022, posting 1,020 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns on 62 receptions (16.4 YPC).

The current redshirt-sophomore is viewed as a key addition to an Arkansas wide receiver room that loses three of its top four wide receivers from the 2022 season, including Matt Landers (exhausted eligibility), Jadon Haselwood (preparing for NFL Draft), and Ketron Jackson (transfer portal).

Arkansas is also in the mix for another transfer wide receiver target in Iowa’s Arland Bruce, who was in town for an official visit over the weekend.

The Razorbacks added their first transfer commitment of the cycle last Monday when former Florida offensive lineman Joshua Braun went public with his decision to call the Hogs. Former North Carolina quarterback Jacolby Criswell became the Hogs’ second pledge on Sunday. Arkansas expects to host multiple transfer targets again next week, including a pair of defensive backs in Eric Rogers of Northern Illinois and Gavin Holmes of Wake Forest.
