I only mentioned him bc he's an extra body. I know he's a 0 star recruit

247 had Avery Jr as a 3-star. His HS tape is pretty good too.

Well hopefully he'll be good for something

They had him at 350th and anything past 200 is pretty much just mid-major talent. He looks solid in his highlights, but show me one recruit who's highlight videos makes him look anything less than solid. I hope he proves the doubters wrong, but I'm keeping my expectations low for him. He's a great guy to have for recruiting purposes though. Very personable, like his dad.

I didn't have any expectations for him either, but I think he could be a contributor if developed properly.

Not in the near future IMO. He is in the same boat as the preferred walkons IMO. He could be a good backup his junior or senior season IMO.

To touch on what you were saying earlier, our guard play should be much improved. Retin was great, but Edwards really wasn't much outside of a 3-point specialist.
Hall also being in his second year, along with Key down under will give us a bigger threat in the paint.
Overall, I just think with the experience and better talent, Bama can be a tournament team. Especially with how close we got last season and beating very good tournament teams. Fatigue played a factor in how we ended the season IMO.

Key down low? I mean he is a tweener. Don't know what you guys are expecting from him. I was thinking he and king were both 3s. Taylor is probably still going to start IMO.

My buddy and I figured Taylor was starting over Hall late in the year so Taylor wouldn't transfer out.

I agree Hall is better but they won't just sit a senior IMO.

I was thinking Key could play 2-4 if he wanted. 3-4 though more likely.

Johnny Jones returning at LSU.
Tiger fans are furious.
And I just read that Jamie Dixon took the job at TCU. Damn, he was a really solid HC at Pitt. He was one of the guys I wanted to replace Grant. Of the 13 seasons he was at Pitt, he only missed the tournament twice and made it to the elite 8 once. Solid, but not great, HC. Think he'll do well over at TCU.

You have to stop looking at rankings in basketball honestly. A 5 star player is good for a year or so but a team full of 3 stars that are upper class men can do some damage in college basketball.

Hurt just wrote a good piece on our sweet 16 woes. Amazes me the amount of times Bama has failed to advance. Lot of has to do with unfortunate seeding, but man is it frustrating to read.

I wish so bad that we could get back to days like that where we had to worry about if we could advance past the Sweet 16. I just wanna make the tourney lol.
The most frustrating thing for me is im only 20. I've followed Alabama basketball for awhile now. I think the first year I became 100% into keeping up with it was Grant's first year. So of course he only makes the tourney once in 6 years and that day I had school and missed it. And we lost so I wasn't able to see that one NCAA tourney appearance. The time before that was 2006. I was like 10 I guess and I remember seeing my parents watching that NCAA tourney but I wasn't really into basketball then and don't remember much of that game. So out of my whole life, I've never seen an Alabama basketball NCAA tourney game from start to finish. It really makes me sick to think about that. Good thing is, we're on the rise and I know I'll be celebrating whenever I finally get to watch them in an NCAA tourney game.

I am in the same boat. I am finally just now getting excited about Basketball, and I am in my 30s. I know all that loyal fan talk and BS, but I just refuse to waste my time and energy on a team and department that doesn't try to win. If they don't care about winning, why should I?
Hey Bama Football, you want to fork out the big $$$ and bring in Bear Bryant, Gene Stallings, Nick Saban, etc. and try to build something special, sign me up, I'm a diehard fan every game. You want to save money, be cheap, and don't care about winning, and sign Mike Price, Mike Shula, or some other no name as your head coach...have fun with that. I'm not wasting my time with it.
The same goes for Basketball..

I'm 110% on board with Avery, and I can't wait until we become a Football AND Basketball school.

Hold up. Grant was considered a home run hire and they were behind him. The problem is he couldn't develop or run a offense. I've heard Trevor Lacy say Anthony Grant asked him, "are you trying to go to the NBA shooting all those shots". Lol that's why he said he left. Grant wouldn't let them play.
On another note I know the game has changed but I would love for us to have another under the basket type big. All of our decent teams always had one. Dudley, Davis, Hendrix, and Green.

Honestly I think our program has some bad luck. I remember being number 1 in the nation and then Kennedy Winston qualifies and we almost don't make the tournament lol. Guys like Ray George and Akini Adkins not qualifying but were suppose to be really good....Al Weber, Rico Pickett, Glenn Miles and others leaving the program. Having beast teams and Jamario Davidson losing his girl then losing a lot of weight due to depression then Ron Steele's leg problems. Sheesh...

oh yes, without question, I agree 100%. Anthony Grant was the hottest name and the best possible hire at the time. I was 100% behind it. My problem....he was fired after Year 6, and it was VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY clear he wasn't the guy for the job, WAY before Year 6 ended. Should have been done after Year 4.

I freaking HATE revisionist history and this is a prime example of it.
Can you tell me what happened in Anthony Grant's 4th season? Yeah, didn't think so.
Let me help you. Alabama finished 23-13 overall and 2nd in the SEC with a 12-6 conference mark. It was his 3rd straight season with 21 or more wins.
Yeah, it was clearly obvious at that point that he was wasn't the answer.
