This sounds like my college rec center and post college church league experience.

Not only did I get a partial ACL tear and knee scoping out of it, I can personally attest that a basketball breaking a thumb in two places sounds like a rifle shot. It hurts really bad too.....

So what are the things Alabama needs to fix for next year?

Mine:

1. Free Throw shooting- Alabama finished 326th in the nation last year, shooting just 64.3% at the charity stripe. It's pretty bad when you look at the games Alabama could have, and should have, won if they were just able to hit free throws. The LSU and Oregon games at home and at the BJCC most notably.

2. Better scoring inside the paint- Alabama averaged 7.8 3-pointers per game. In large part, that is because we really had no offensive identity and Alabama would just shoot up a bunch of 3s due to no inside presence. I really think CAJ wants a team that is built around the perimeter (maybe a pick and pop type offense), but needs a threat inside the paint that can be relied on if shots aren't going down and to take make it hard for the defense to stay in man.

3. Rebounding- again, Alabama was pretty bad last year because we lack talent overall talent and basic fundamentals. Hall and Norris came on strong last year, but still consistently got killed on the boards. CAJ wants a more fast-break type offense, and in order for him to implement that, we need guys who can box out and get the ball instead of just sitting there and getting killed in 2nd chance points. Good news is that Dazon returns, as he was probably our best rebounder last year before going down with the injury.

4. Better screens and ball movement- the same old pick and roll screen last year was not creative in any fashion and made the offense predictable and stagnant. Again, this will come with more talent and chemistry, but the offense was really hard to watch. Lot of times, just 1 player with the ball, guy in the post would come to set the screen, then the other 3 just stand there guarded. There needs to be better movement and ways to get open. Along with this, while I think the ball movement was good, players need to be more aware for when the ball comes to them. Way too many times did the players feed the ball inside on perfect passes, just to watch their teammate turn it over because he wasn't paying attention.

5. Better overall shooting- Hale, Norris, and Coleman were all too streaky of shooters. Norris went cold through the 2nd half of the season (minus the double-double vs Ole Miss), Coleman was way too inconsistent throughout the season, and Hale looked very lazy in some games. Alabama needs these guys to step up next year. For the team though, I would love to see more jump shots in the paint, instead of them always driving to the basket and getting called for the charge. Coleman is a player I don't think has the size, nor the ability to move the ball in traffic to get the bucket. Great news is that Ar'Mond is a good shooter, and players like King and Key can shoot from anywhere on the court.

I agree with all of these. My main 2 would be free throw shooting and rebounding. If we had been good in just those 2, we would've won a couple of the close games we lost like Arkansas and maybe Oregon or Miss State. That would've put us in the tourney.

We win 22-25 games this season with better ft shooting and rebounding.

That's a good list. IMO your numbers 2 and 5 are completely a product of the talent on the floor. Coaching can certainly help, but the Jimmy and Joe factor is huge.

Numbers 3 & 4 take time for the coaching and player development to take root. As you noted, I think you saw a product of it with the growth of Norris and Hall as the season went along.

Number 1, I don't know. It was terrible and some of the better outside shooters were terrible at the line (I'm looking at you, Riley Norris). Someone pull Justin Coleman to the side and tell him if he doesn't do one other thing to help the team in the offseason, teach these guys to shoot free throws.

Yeah, one thing I'm excited fr is getting Dazon back. He shows he can be a slasher at PG as a freshman. He has good instincts on when to drive the lane and when to kick it out down under or to the top of the key.

I'm glad we bring in players though who know how to handle the ball and won't turn it over. We really had Retin and Coleman as players who knew how to dribble the ball and evade say the press or a double team. Next year, we should have King, Coleman, Dazon, Key, and Ar'Mond as guys who know how to win one-on-one defenders.

Not worried at all either with our backcourt.

With the talent we have next year, it would be a disappointment to miss the tourney. If we can almost make the tourney this year, we should make the tourney next year.

the need for a better inside game is way more important than anything else, imo ... course that's going to be 90 % the result of recruiting ...

What's the difference in the talent we will have next year with this year? Armond Davis isn't a 5 star recruit. King cancels out Retin. Well hopefully he does. Kids just have to stay in the gym and get better if they don't it will be another NIT.

King, Davis, Key, and Johnson Jr will be added to what we have coming back. We also get Dazon Ingram back. And we only lose Obasohan and Edwards.

Retin was the offense what do you mean only. I think King will be good a and Key could be a difference maker but to say NCAA or bust is a lil much IMO with this being his first recruiting class and us losing the two top recruits out of the last two classes. We can make it but it will depend on how players improve not on the guys coming in because I don't see anyone playing much of a role other than king or key.

King cancels out Retin. Dazon Ingram comes back. Just that right there is enough to make the tournament, because if Ingram would have never gotten hurt this season, we would have gotten in the tournament.

Icing on the cake is Braxton Key & A'rmond Davis. If they are what we think they are....it's going to be a FUN season!

If they are not what we think they are, King & Dazon > Retin & Arthur, so i'd still like our chances to get in.

I see what ur saying and I understand Retin led the team in scoring but remember this, when Retin wasn't on the floor, our players were forced to score and couldn't just hand the ball to Retin and make him do everything. They'll have no choice but to score themselves now. They showed they could by scoring 40 in the first half against ole miss in the sec tourney when Retin had 0 points. King is supposed to be the best scorer from what people are saying and from the highlights we've seen, Key and Davis are pretty good scorers too. Doesn't matter if they're 5 stars or not. I'm sure we'll make the NCAA tourney next year.

1 let's get something straight lol Johnson Jr should not be taking any minutes from anyone at the point with Cole and Ingram playing so leave him out of this. I think we can make the tourney but its not based on the guys coming in. If the guys we have don't improve none of the guys coming are that great to carry the team. Not to mention we always have a guy to leave the team in the offseason. If we can somehow add a proven wing or big then I will be confident.

hahaha I agree with this 1,000,000%. Avery Jr. was a 0-Star recruit out of high school. He got on a college team because his dad is Avery Johnson. While in college, he averaged 1.0 PPG. Which means, every other game he hit 2 garbage time free throws. Key, Ingram, King, & Davis are in a whole different world than Avery Jr. I don't even mention him when I am talking about incoming talent for next season.
