A lot of the top West prospects are waiting to take official visits into their senior seasons, but that does not mean they haven’t been on the road taking unofficial trips. Here is a look at five of the most important visits so far this spring from the West region.

KAYVON THIBODEAUX TO ALABAMA
Kayvon Thibodeaux, the five-star defensive end and top-rated prospect in the state of California visited Alabama a few weekends ago and said after it that the Crimson Tide was the team to beat. He absolutely loved everything about his trip to Tuscaloosa and Alabama is right at the top. However, Thibodeaux hit the road the following weekend to Florida State and had another excellent trip, so the Seminoles have been climbing up the ranks as well.
The Westlake Village (Calif.) Oaks Christian standout was at Oregon for the Ducks' spring game and had another good trip, but the feeling is that Alabama and Florida State made bigger strides in recent weeks. LSU is still there and USC is not going to go down easily so Thibodeaux’s recruitment stays in flux with some of those teams as standouts. After that ‘Bama trip, though, the Crimson Tide set the bar high.

Previewing Bama's QB-of-the-future battle: Tyson vs. Taulia
quote:
Alabama is currently embroiled in a quarterback competition between two talented and proven options, two distinctly different styles and two highly-regarded recruits. It won’t be the last time Nick Saban has to make tough decisions about his quarterback.
As Alabama looks to strengthen its quarterback room, it already has two commitments out of the class of 2019 at the position in Paul Tyson and Taulia Tagovailoa. Both have strong Alabama ties and the two threw side-by-side last weekend at the Nashville Elite 11 regional in a driving rain. As one of our first opportunities to see the two in close quarters throwing next to each other, the event was a meaningful preview of what’s to come.
Below I offer my thoughts on Tyson and Tagovailoa and offer a prediction as to which one is more likely to be Alabama's signal-caller of the future.

quote:
Paul Tyson, Trussville (Ala.) Hewitt-Trussville
Frame: 6-4, 217 pounds
Legacy: Great-grandson to legendary Alabama coach Paul “Bear” Bryant
247Sports Composite ranking: Four-star, No. 12 pro-style quarterback
247Sports ranking: Four-star, No. 8 pro-style quarterback
2017 stats: 238-336, 3,392 yards, 36 TDs, 4 INTs
What we saw: Tyson is a throw-back quarterback that looks more like the Peyton Mannings, Kerry Collins and Drew Bledsoes of years past. He’s very impressive from a physical standpoint and he does have some athleticism and light feet for a player of his size. Tyson showcased a strong arm in nasty conditions and was largely accurate through most of the day. He’s a little bit tight as a passer and has some stiffness to his game but the trade-off is a frame and body that looks SEC-ready and can shrug off the occasional free rusher. Under Tyson, an Alabama offense would look much more like it looked under AJ McCarron or Jake Coker than it has under Jalen Hurts or Tua Tagovailoa.

quote:
Taulia Tagovailoa, Alabaster (Ala.) Thompson
Frame: 5-11, 203 pounds
Legacy: Younger brother of current Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa
247Sports Composite ranking: Four-star, No. 7 pro-style quarterback
247Sports ranking: Four-star, No. 4 pro-style quarterback
2017 stats: 287-435, 3820 yards, 36 TDs, 8 INTs
What we saw: Taulia had one of the better days of the quarterbacks in attendance on Sunday in the rain. He maintained control over the football throughout the afternoon on a rain-soaked day, he has good feet and has the ability to deliver the football outside of the pocket and on the run with consistency. He’s got a lot of arm talent, though he’s not quite his brother in that regard. The athleticism is there from an escapability standpoint but not necessarily as a run-game threat under center. Because of his fluidity as a passer, Tagovailoa looks more equipped to deliver in off-platform throws and off script than Tyson but doesn’t have the same physical upside.

Prediction: Right now, I’d give the slight nod to Taulia as the future quarterback at Alabama but there’s a long way to go in this one. Taulia has taken a lot more meaningful snaps under center in his career and Tyson should continue to improve heading into his senior season. But right now the instincts that Taulia shows under center gets the slight nod over the impressive traits Tyson is still learning to channel. Taulia has the higher floor, Tyson has the higher ceiling. It should be a fun battle to track over the next few years.

TI reporting that Kevin Harris likely to commit to Miami. But LONG way to go until NSD, with several around him thinking he eventually signs with Bama or UGa.
Also, Pappoe likely to UGa.

Others are indicating Bama. Was there any indication of TI's sauce(s) for that take?

No, but he's crazy accurate. I've learned to not go against him.

Was told Miami is a legit factor especially after he took the OV last weekend. Bama has the last face to face contact with him [visited UA Monday] though before his decision next week. He's no longer visiting LSU. A lot of time to go before Tuesday night. I still like my Bama pick right now.

The Miami trip must've been incredible because no away you have faith that Rich is going to turn you into the player you want to be. Its like people have forgot how mediocre he was at UGA.

Surge, who's your pick to be the next commit? My guess was the kicker from Hoover, but I'm beginning to think we are slow playing him to see how our kicker looks this fall.
