Lakia Henry

Henry is a JUCO product out of Dodge City Community College in Vidalia, Georgia. He brings great experience to the table and should be able to contribute early. He is the No. 1 JUCO LB in the 2019 recruiting class. He is great at reading offenses and finding out which direction the ball is going in. He is also pretty decent in pass coverage. Alabama will be in a dogfight with this one as several schools are after Henry.

Alabama’s Family Environment Plays A Huge Role In Recruiting

quote:

Recruiting is a tough and competetive business. Programs have to stay in front of the curve with state of the art facilities. Alabama has done this arguably better than anybody else, but the one thing that has separated The Tide from the competition is the family environment that they have been able to create.

Tuscaloosa is a special place that is full of memories and no one knows that better than former Alabama football players. That is why they are constantly seen floating around Alabama’s facilities after their playing days are over.

Saban has noticed this and recently expressed that it is something that he really appreciates in Alabama’s football inaugral episode of “Shop Talk”.

“The thing I don’t get to say much that makes me feel the best is that all you guys that played over the last 11 years that I have been here, everybody likes to come back,” Saban said. “That’s the most important thing to me, that you guys enjoy coming back. That means you had great experiences here, you appreciate the people who help you here, you come back to help the next guy. That spirit makes it special.”

Recruits also notice this about Alabama and express that its one of the things that stands out to them. Many guys are searching for the place that makes them feel most like family and Alabama has strived to do just that. It’s one of the reasons why they are such a huge player in the world of recruiting.

Can Alabama Land The No. 1 Recruit in The Nation?

quote:

The No.1 recruit in the nation, Kayvon Thibodeaux, has announced via Twitter that he will visit Alabama on April. 7.

Thibodeaux is an highly talented defensive end that has the potential to come in and make an immediate impact where everywhere he chooses to go. He has incredible size at 6-feet-5-inches and 235 pounds. His combination of speed, power and size makes him a nightmare for offensive players.

Alabama will have to scratch and claw their way through to land Thibodeaux. He is the most sought-after player in the 2019 recruiting class and currently lives only two hours away from USC. Nonetheless, Alabama is off to a good start by getting this guy to come to Tuscaloosa.

The Crimson Tide has been able to serenade players with their winning culture and state of the art facilities in the past and can do the same with Thibodeaux. He has expressed that Alabama is one of his top schools.

His recruitment should be very interesting. Touchdown Alabama Magazine will keep you updated throughout his recruitment process.

I don't think so.

Yep. Physically, he looks SEC & NFL ready. If he plays like he looks, he's real good. I kept him on the Top Targets list for a while, thinking news would break about Bama getting him on campus. I took him him off a few weeks ago. Glad to hear that he's itching to visit. I put him back on the list.

Alabama could sign these prospects from Georgia in next recruiting class

Jaylen McCollough is one of Bama's top targets.

You’re right, Bill, the state of Georgia in the 2019 class is stacked. There are 42 players rated 4 stars or better, according to the 247Sports composite. The state of Georgia hasn’t been a state that Alabama has recruited all that well recently.

Let’s break down how many players Alabama has signed from the Peach State the past 5 years:

2018: 0
2017: 1
2016: 1
2015: 3 (2 have transferred)
2014: 2

So, while the state is always loaded with top talent, Georgia isn’t one of the kindest states to Alabama. I don’t really see that changing in the 2019 class.

The likeliest player to sign with Bama from Georgia this cycle is the player who is already committed: 4-star outside linebacker  King Mwikuta from Troup County (LaGrange, Ga.). Mwikuta told SEC Country on Monday that he’s locked in with the Tide.

The next-likeliest player from Georgia is 4-star safety  Jaylen McCollough from Hillgrove (Powder Springs, Ga.). He has visited Alabama more than any other school in the country. His recruitment is shaping up to be an Alabama-Auburn race. The only thing about McCollough that might need to be answered in the coming months is his speed. I know some schools are concerned about how fast he actually is.

Rashad Cheney Jr., a 4-star defensive lineman from Cedar Grove (Ellenwood, Ga.), is a name to know. He visited Tuscaloosa last weekend. The former Georgia commit is one of the team’s top targets on the defensive line.

Riley Simonds, a 3-star guard from Buford, is one of the team’s top guard targets in the 2019 class. Buford coach John Ford told SEC Country that offensive line coach Brent Key told him Simonds is Bama’s top guard target.

Outside of those players,  Kevin Harris, a 4-star outside linebacker from Grayson (Loganville, Ga.), has Alabama in his top 3 along with LSU and Miami. I think LSU is the favorite right now. Five-star prospect  Owen Pappoe and 4-star prospects  Travon Walker and Trezmen Marshall are top targets, but Georgia is the favorite for all three.

Alabama would love to flip 5-star defensive end  Christopher Hinton, who is committed to Michigan, but that could hinge on the Wolverines’ 2018 season. If they are average once again, it’s possible Hinton could explore other options.

Names of other Georgia prospects to know are:

4-star defensive end  Justin Eboigbe
4-star inside LB Kalen DeLoach
4-star outside LB Derrick McLendon
4-star athlete Steele Chambers
4-star cornerback  Jalyn Phillips

Breaking down Alabama’s chances and top contenders for 2 top prospects in Georgia

Kalen Deloach is one of Bama's top ILB targets.

A name to know at LB: Kalen Deloach

We listed Bama’s  top inside linebacker targets last month. However, we didn’t name Kalen Deloach as one of them. At the time, we didn’t know how coveted Deloach was by the staff, and it’s clear the Tide have focused lots of attention on 5-star prospect Nakobe Dean and junior college prospect Lakia Henry.

But since the publishing of that story, we have learned that the Alabama staff loves Deloach’s game. And that is evidenced with how often Alabama inside linebackers coach Pete Golding is in touch with the 4-star prospect from Islands High School (Savannah, Ga.)

“They’re coming after me really hard,” Deloach told SEC Country. “You know, me and Coach Golding text almost every day. I just check in on practice and stuff to see how things are going. You know, he’s a cool coach. He’s funny too. We’ve got a good relationship. We just have fun with each other.”

Deloach visited Tuscaloosa in February for one of the team’s junior say events. He has visited numerous schools, including Auburn, Clemson, Georgia, Michigan, Ohio State, South Carolina and Tennessee since his recruitment began.

The 6-foot, 200-pound prospect said he plans to release a top 5 in the summer, and those schools are the ones that likely will receive official visits this fall.

“Everything is really nice because I’m enjoying the process,” Deloach said. “I’m just going to see new places, new facilities, new coaches and build relationships. Really, all the schools are pushing. They see me coming to their program and helping their program. Most places want me to help build their program.”

Deloach, who was invited to the prestigious Opening finals camp this summer, said he plans on returning to Bama for the A-Day game on April 21. Expect Alabama to make his top 5 list.

“They’re one of the winningest programs in the whole college football nation,” Deloach said. “I could see myself playing there, getting coached by the best and winning national championships.”

Travon Walker wants to visit Alabama

Travon Walker, the nation’s No. 3 defensive tackle from Upson-Lee High School (Thomaston, Ga.), is a priority target for Alabama. He has a top 4 of Alabama, Clemson, Georgia and South Carolina.

Walker told SEC Country that he speaks with the Alabama staff, mainly defensive coordinator Tosh Lupoi, almost every other day. He also said Nick Saban communicates with him frequently.

But it’s Georgia that should be considered the heavy favorite for Walker. Walker feels like his relationship with Kirby Smart stands out from the ones he has with other coaches.

“The one that stays in the most contact? That’s Coach Smart,” Walker told DawgNation’s Jeff Sentell. “Most of the time when he was on the road he made sure to stop to see me. He finds a way to get some time on the phone with me just about every week. Some coaches you really can’t get that from, but he finds time to make for me.

“He says he is going to recruit me as hard as he can but he says he wants me to enjoy the recruiting process while I can.”

The 6-foot-5, 263-pound prospect said he plans on visiting Tuscaloosa soon, but it just doesn’t seem likely that Alabama has much of a chance with Walker. He did say that the Tide’s need for defensive tackles is intriguing to him.

“They are telling me that I do have an opportunity to come in and play off the rip, but, I mean, of course you are going to have to come in and work for that,” Walker said.

It should be noted that Alabama is in good shape with the nation’s No. 1 defensive tackle, Ishmael Sopsher, and the No. 2 defensive tackle, Faatui Tuitele.
