From SEC Country:

I was told that one major target almost flipped his commitment to Alabama last week. It’s possible that he actually goes through with it soon. It’s definitely something to keep an eye on. Fans will be pleased with this if he follows through

Interdasting. I'm assuming he is talking about Jarren Williams seeing as he wrote a commitment article on him.

See how the 2017 A-List prospects performed in Week 8

quote:

1. Justyn Ross, WR, Central-Phenix City: The state’s top uncommitted prospect did not score a touchdown as the Red Devils intercepted three passes and blocked three punts in a 55-18 victory over Jeff Davis.

quote:

2. Jalyn Armour-Davis, ATH, St. Paul's: The Alabama commit took a big hit just before halftime of Friday’s 26-20 victory over Citronelle and did not return in the second half. “We held Jalyn out the second half as a precaution,” St. Paul’s coach Steve Mask said. “He took a big hit.” Armour-Davis suffered a knee injury earlier this season and underwent knee surgery, but he missed only one game.

quote:

5. Seth Williams, WR, Paul Bryant: Caught an 80-yard touchdown pass and scored on an 11-yard run in a 34-21 victory over Northridge.

quote:

6. Harold Joiner, RB, Mountain Brook: Caught the game-winning, 6-yard touchdown in overtimne to lift the Spartans to a 17-10 victory over Vestavia Hills. The Spartans are now 2-0 in overtime games this season.

Isaac Taylor-Stuart will visit Alabama this fall

Cornerback is arguably Alabama’s biggest need in the 2018 class after not signing any true corners in the 2017 class. When you factor in that the Crimson Tide will also lose Anthony Averett, Levi Wallace and Tony Brown to graduation, the team must sign several corners this year.

The only true scholarship corners Alabama will return next season are Trevon Diggs and Nigel Knott. While Shyheim Carter and Kyriq McDonald are listed as corners, they are likely going to play star, Brown’s spot, when and if they get a chance to start.

Alabama is in the mix for several elite cornerbacks in the 2018 class, such as 5-star prospects Tyson Campbell and Patrick Surtain Jr., junior college talent Saivion Smith and 4-star recruits Jalyn Armour-Davis, Josh Jobe, Kyler McMichael and Nadab Joseph. Isaac Taylor-Stuart, the nation’s No. 4 cornerback from Helix High School (San Diego, Calif.), told SEC Country that he, too, is hearing from Alabama every day.

“They are recruiting me really hard right now, as [outside linebackers] coach Tosh [Lupoi] is telling me ‘Bama is the right fit for me and that they will be losing a lot of DBs to the NFL draft,” Taylor-Stuart said.

Alabama was Taylor-Stuart’s leader at one point. He visited Tuscaloosa in the summer of 2016 and immediately fell in love with the place. Over time, though, Taylor-Stuart slowly backed off naming the Tide his leader in interviews, but he said that he didn’t lose interest in Alabama since then.

The Army All-American will take an official visit to Tuscaloosa this fall, but he hasn’t locked in the trip just yet. Taylor-Stuart maintains that the reason for the upcoming trip is because of how interested he is in Alabama.

“Alabama is just a top team that I would like to explore more,” Taylor-Stuart said. “They are a top school and I’m very interested in.”

I still don’t believe that Taylor-Stuart is a smart pick to project in this recruiting class. I still think there’s a long way to go if the Crimson Tide want him. My defensive back projections remain the same: Campbell, Smith, Joseph and Armour-Davis.

Taylor-Stuart will make his commitment during the early signing period in December.

Update on a RB target

We don’t talk much about him here at SEC Country, but Alabama fans need to know the name Jerome Ford. Ford, a 3-star running back from Armwood High School (Seffner, Fla.), currently is the team’s top option at the position.

Ford currently lists South Florida as his leader, but I believe if Alabama pushes hard for his commitment, then there’s a good chance he’ll spurn the hometown team for the Tide. He’s the only uncommitted running back target that has a committable offer, and that includes 4-star prospect Harold Joiner. Alabama is also talking to LSU commit Chris Curry and Texas Tech commit Devin Brumfield.

Alabama is looking at bringing in a change-of-pace type of running back in this class because the team currently has several bigger-bodied backs already on the roster. It’s looking like a possibility that both Bo Scarbrough and Damien Harris will declare for the NFL draft. That would leave Alabama with just Josh Jacobs, Najee Harris and Brian Robinson.

SEC Country was told that one of Alabama’s assistants will likely see Ford this Friday at his high school game.

Midwest Spotlight: Four prospects who still could flip

quote:

Emil Ekiyor

Committed to: Michigan

Challenging: Alabama

The Latest: Of all the commitments on this list, Ekiyor’s may be the most in jeopardy. In fact, following a Sept. 29 official visit to Alabama, expectations from many corners of this recruitment are that the Indianapolis native ends up with the Crimson Tide. He initially committed to Michigan in October of his junior year, but only a few months later he revealed his communication with the Wolverines was not consistent. Alabama, meanwhile, has been a presence throughout. Georgia would be the school if a third team were to enter the discussion, but this appears to be a two-team race and the challenger may be the odds-on favorite.

Holy shite:

quote:

Dorian Hardy, one of the top defensive ends in the 2018 college football recruiting class, is reportedly no longer committed to Penn State.

Sean Fitz of 247Sports first reported the update Friday. Land of 10's Stephen Pianovich noted the news comes after Hardy was involved in a "post-practice brawl" at Paramus Catholic High School in New Jersey last week.

Charles Hardy, the father of the former Nittany Lions commit, told Matthew Stanmyre and Todderick Hunt of NJ Advance Media his son came to the aid of a teammate during the altercation and was later punched in the face twice by assistant coach Michael Mitchell.

Meanwhile, Mitchell told Stanmyre and Hunt in a separate interview Hardy and another member of the team were the "aggressors" in the fight, which left the assistant's son, Miles Mitchell, with a concussion and a right eye that was "nearly swollen shut."

"They tried to kill my son," Michael Mitchell said. "I just hope he makes it through this and isn't hurt for the rest of his life."

The elder Mitchell denied ever throwing a punch at Hardy but said Paramus Catholic High School fired him from his position on the football team's coaching staff.

Police told NJ Advance Media no charges were filed in the case as of Thursday.

Hardy is a 4-star prospect who's rated as the No. 196 overall recruit in the 2018 class, according to the 247Sports composite rankings. He's also listed as the No. 10 strong-side defensive end in the group.

He originally committed to Penn State in June. 247Sports noted Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State and Michigan were the other high-profile programs to make him an offer before he chose the Nittany Lions.

Five-star K.J. Henry ’s recruitment is moving right along. The Clemmons (N.C.) West Forsyth defensive end has taken one unofficial visit and one official visit so far this season but has another official visit coming up with three more in the works. Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, South Carolina, and Virginia Tech are still Henry’s top five. He talks about all five of those schools, his previous visits, and his future plans in the video above.

Henry took an unofficial visit to Clemson for the Auburn game and enjoyed seeing how the team played and being around the other recruits. Henry specifically commented on how consistent the defensive line play has been under coach Bates.

Georgia got Henry's first official visit for the Mississippi State game. Henry and his family loved the vibe there and he spoke about how Justin Fields' commitment could affect him.

Henry will take his next official visit to Virginia Tech for the North Carolina game. He mentioned that all the Virginia Tech coaches (like the Georgia coaches) have goo relationships with his family. Henry also said that the loss to Clemson doesn't mean much in terms of his recruitment.

He likes that the Alabama and South Carolina coaches are allowing him to focus on his season and aren’t being overbearing. Both schools, along with Clemson, will get official visit later this season but he is not ready to release the dates of those visits yet. Henry is still on track to graduate early.

From the Georgia board per Rusty Mansell:

quote:

The more and more I call on this prospect, it looks like the KJ Henry deal is coming down to UGA and Virginia Tech. He is set to take his official to VT this weekend. He will not make his final decision until December 20th at his school, but you can bet one school will know ahead of time what is going on. This one is starting to get interesting
