EMPTYING THE NOTEBOOK

247Sports ranks five-star defensive end Zach Harrison as the No. 3 prospect in the country. We have now included him in the talks to be the potential No. 1. Georgia commit Nolan Smith is the likely candidate to get that bump but Harrison is a bigger more powerful player at 6-foot-6, 240-pounds with nearly the same amount of athleticism. He had some really good reps in Oregon, just wasn't as consistent as Smith. Very raw, but a very exciting prospect as he continues to develop. Ohio State, Michigan, Notre Dame and Penn State are among the schools he's looking at early.

Virginia Tech quarterback commit Quincy Patterson has every physical tool you want in a quarterback but the 7-on-7 tournament with the speed he was seeing on the field was not what he's accustomed to back home in Chicago. The talented passer has only been playing under center for three years and it showed in this setting. But, Patterson is as natural a thrower of the football as there is in this class and he couldn't of made a better decision on where to go to develop his game in college. Justin Fuente has a strong track record and Patterson has a chance to grow into his next NFL guy.

NC State quarterback commit Devin Leary completed 14 of 19 passes on the final day with one touchdown in five drives. His arm talent goes toe to toe with anyone. Leary looked good in this setting but the reigning New Jersey Gatorade Player of the Year thrives in a system he knows and should be a good one for the Wolfpack.

The nation's No. 1 tight end Jeremy Ruckert was the top player at the camp on Sunday and picked up where he left off Monday with a pair of big games. He had 10 catches in two ballgames including a few down the field. As good of hands as you'll find in the country, Ruckert is nearing a college decision with a top four of the Buckeyes, Michigan, Notre Dame and Wisconsin.

Texas commit Rondale Moore had a five catch, two touchdown game. The outstanding route runner is as quick as they come.

Penn State commit Ricky Slade Jr. had nine catches and a touchdown on a championship team.

Luke Ford reeled in seven passes and scored three touchdowns including a 35-yard score where he dove to the pylon. One of America's top tight end prospects, Ford is considering Alabama, Georgia and Michigan among others.

Syracuse commit Tyrone Sampson Jr. and Michigan commit Emil Ekiyor were two of the better interior linemen in camp on Monday. Sampson will enroll early with the Orange.

Tyreke Smith solidified himself as one of the top defensive ends in the country this weekend.

Auburn and Alabama should stop recruiting this kid. I have a feeling he will be a cancer in the locker room.

I worry about that too. FWIW a poster on our board actually knows him and says he's a good kid. I do worry tho that if things don't go how he wants them too he will transfer. Elite athlete no doubt but I don't think he's an SEC RB. Hope I am wrong because it's starting to look like he's gonna be AU's guy which is the most Auburn thing ever

BEAVERTON, Ore. — It's not enough to do a mere 'top performers' piece from The Opening Finals.

You need to build your dream team.

That's exactly what we've done following the conclusion of the premier all-star event of the summer, which was even more memorable this year because we might've seen the best quarterback in Opening Finals history at the hand of 5-star passer Justin Fields. But Fields wasn't the only one who balled out: A few possible future Buckeyes proved to be elite targets this weekend, a tall, raw wideout flashed in serious form, a Florida-flavored secondary class made its impression felt and some familiar names in the trenches showed up as expected.

Let's run it back, starting with Fields.

QB: Justin Fields

The best performance I've ever seen at The Opening Finals from a quarterback.

Key stat: 16 touchdowns, 0 interceptions on 71.1 completion percentage.

CB: Isaac Taylor-Stuart

Taylor-Stuart caused several interceptions that he didn't get credit for by using his elite speed and length, particularly on slant routes and take-offs.

CB: Patrick Surtain Jr.

He was quiet for much of the weekend because he rarely let anyone do any damage to his side of the field.

DL: Nolan Smith

While he may have been the most athletic defensive end at the event, he also added really surprising strength and toughness in the run drills.

So big but subtly athletic, Sewell rarely lost over the weekend because he's so nimble and absorbs big bodies so effortlessly.

BEAVERTON, Ore. -- In the final day of The Opening Finals, several defensive players made key plays that helped their 7-on-7 teams advance in elimination play and several linemen continued their strong showings.

Nolan Smith, DE, Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy (2019)

The No. 1 class of 2019 recruit on Scout, Smith validated that newly-minted ranking with his performance this week. Strong, especially for a kid who was considered a weak-side defensive end, and of course, when it was time to pin his ears back and rush the passer, he did that very well too. Smith is committed to Georgia, but other schools like Alabama, Clemson and more continue to give chase.

Isaac Taylor-Stuart, CB, San Diego (Calif.) St. Augustine

The event's fastest man, Taylor-Stuart showed he was more than just a speed guy once 7-on-7 started as he used that speed and his big, rangy frame to go and intercept passes thrown into the deep part of the secondary. Any time it was a contested ball, it seemed like he came down with it. Alabama, Florida State, Illinois, Michigan, Nebraska, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon, USC and others have offered in what is an open race right now.

Jalen Green, CB, Houston (Tex.) Heights

Green was another guy who always seemed to be around the football and came away with quite a few interceptions this week. He has good size and is willing to play physically as well. Alabama, Arkansas, Clemson, LSU, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Oregon, Penn State, Texas and TCU are some of the schools still on his list.

BEAVERTON, Ore. -- In a group of top prospects, there can still be those who surprise and exceed expectations. Here are several kids who the Scout recruiting team felt fit that bill.

Nolan Smith, DE, Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy (2019)

Smith was just named No. 1 prospect in the 2019 class on Scout, so it may seem unusual to have him on a surprises list, but what made him a surprise is why he stood out. Smith was excellent in the run drills. For a guy whose forte is rushing the passer and a guy who gives up a lot of size to the offensive tackles here, he showed great strength and ability to gain leverage and not only hold his ground, but gain ground in that drill. He is going to get bigger and stronger and looks like he will be a complete defensive end. Smith is committed to Georgia, but Alabama, Clemson and others are still working to be in the mix.

Kelvin Joseph, CB, Baton Rouge (La.) Scotlandville Magnet

Joseph is a fairly highly ranked guy, but our southern analysts were still surprised with how he performed in 7-on-7. He provided tight coverage and made several good plays on the football. He is a good-sized kid who was able to compete with the bigger outside receivers at the camp. He is committed to LSU.

Daniel Faalele, OT, Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy

Faalele has played much less football than most of his counterparts on the offensive line, so we expected him to lose some reps this week, but he bounced back well on day two and his size and strength made him a tough matchup in run blocking drills. He is a project, but he is a big kid who has been learning the game quickly and showed the can take coaching and improve. Alabama, Michigan, UCLA, Tennessee, LSU and Minnesota are among the schools who have offered him.

Azeez Ojulari, DE, Marietta (Ga.)

On film, Ojulari comes across as more of a strongside guy, a physical player, but he showed he has edge rushing capabilities at this event as well. He showed some advanced pass rush moves along with the agility to set up offensive tackles and beat them with counter moves. Alabama, Clemson, Auburn, Florida, Notre Dame and South Carolina are among the schools he is considering.

Despite more than 40 scholarship offers, including from LSU, four-star cornerback Jaycee Horn from Alpharetta, Ga., has narrowed his decision to two schools: Alabama and South Carolina.

The Georgia 2018 cornerback is the son of former New Orleans Saints wide receiver Joe Horn.

He participated in Nike's The Opening this past week and told AL.com he might move his commitment date of July 15 further back, although, the report didn't give a specific reason why.

"I may have to push it back," Horn said, according to AL.com.

The 6-foot, 175-pounder said his dad is really fond of Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide.

"(Joe Horn has) been a fan of Alabama because of how hard they work," the younger Horn said. "Growing up, I was a fan (of Alabama). He's always thought highly of Alabama and he said that's the closest thing you can get to the league. He's been down there with me when we saw them work."

When LSU offered Horn in March of this year, he had this to say about the Tigers:

"I was a fan of LSU DBs not really a fan of the team (growing up in Louisiana). I just always liked the DBs that came through. Patrick Peterson is still my (favorite) DB to this day. He is a complete DB that can do everything. I was also a fan of guys like Tyrann Matthieu, Eric Reid and Morris Claiborne."
