The state of Alabama has one new member of the Scout 300 in do-it-all offensive weapon Harold Joiner. The Mountain Brook (Ala.) running back has flashed dominance as a pass-catcher over the last year with an intriguing 6-foot-4, 220-pound frame. He moved from running back to athlete in our post signing day update, attaining a fourth star in the process. Joiner jumps into the 300 and is now among the top five athlete projections in the South. He can run inside and out, play in space and be a game-changer in the passing game, part of the reason LSU tops a list that also includes Auburn, USC, Ole Mss and several others.
The biggest riser in the Yellowhammer State is Mobile (Ala.) St. Paul's defensive back Jalyn Armour-Davis, who vaults into the Scout100 and into the top 10 among cornerbacks nationally. He is polarizing to some in the industry because he doesn't attend camps and plays multiple sports, making some wonder about his mass and potential. But Scout spent some time at his program this spring and he measured in at 6-foot-1, north of 170 pounds that day, fresh off of his 100-meter dash state title run for the class 5A crown at 10.8 seconds. Armour-Davis plays with great technique and ball skills at cornerback and has the athleticism to be courted as a wide receiver by big-time programs like Oklahoma. Alabama, Auburn and Florida State are his final three in a decision expected sooner rather than later this summer.

North Carolina
North Carolina features risers at the linebacker position in two of the top overall talents in the region, Shelby (N.C.) linebacker Dax Hollifield and fellow four-star and Hillsborough (N.C.) Orange prospect Payton Wilson. Hollifield, who has North Carolina and Virginia Tech leading a stacked top eight, sits just outside the Scout 100 at No. 102 nationally. He moves nearly 20 spots since the spring update, while Wilson moves up a couple spots among outside linebackers and into the top 120 overall. North Carolina landed his services on May 1.
The prospect in the Tar Heel State to make the biggest push towards the top is Cary (N.C.) Green Hope wide receiver Jordyn Adams. He jumps nearly 100 overall spots, into the top 120 overall and some 18 spots in the position rankings. He is an explosive playmaker on the outside, he can make the tough catch across the middle or beat the defense deep. Regardless, Adams is a threat to go the distance every time he touches the all. Clemson and North Carolina are his final two schools and the Tar Heels are currently the team to beat.
Raleigh (N.C.) Sanerson defensive tackle Alim McNeill moved from outside of the Scout 300 all the way within the top 200 to No. 194 overall. McNeil's impressive junior season and strong spring led to nearly 30 scholarship offers. The powerful defensive lineman released a top 10 last month and of those schools, many feel the in-state ACC programs, Duke, NC State and North Carolina are in the best shape. However, keep an eye on Clemson, Florida State, Michigan and Virginia Tech.

The South cannot be discussed without the fertile state of Florida, where a pair of offensive prospects are on the way up.
Coconut Creek (Fla.) North Broward Prep wide receiver Kevin Austin was at the back end of the Scout 300 and the No. 49 wide receiver in the country but now is within the top 200 nationally (No. 162) and jumps 17 spots among wideouts. Austin has steadily improved since the end of his junior campaign and through the spring. He immediately catches your attention with his top-notch size on the perimeter, but it has been his running ability and effectiveness when stretching the field that continues to absorb the attention of onlookers. Austin takes full advantage of his 6-foot-3, near 200 pound frame by high-pointing the ball and out-muscling smaller defensive backs, but also does a nice job of navigating after the catch. Notre Dame, Duke, Tennessee and semi-local Miami are in the running for his services.
Orlando (Fla.) Olympia signal-caller Joe Milton, a new four-star fresh off of the Elite 11 Finals, added the star and vaults into the Scout 300 as one of the top quarterbacks in the country. His big spring began regionally as the near 6-foot-5, 222-pound specimen has proven he is more than a big arm. The recent Michigan verbal commitment has polished up his delivery and improved his accuracy and consistency as much as any over the last year or so and combined with his arm strength and athleticism, moves him into the 300 and among the top two dozen quarterbacks in a very deep class at the position.

It has been a busy spring, with numerous regional camps for The Opening and Under Armour, spring football and the evaluation period as a whole. But there wasn't a lot of movement in the Top 10 nationally by Scout.
In fact, just one player moved into the top ten post-spring. Of course, with The Opening Finals beginning later this month and a number of college camps taking place, movement could be more readily available in the post-summer update in late-July.
But for now, while there are some newcomers to the Scout 300, the ten best players in the country remain relatively unchanged, with only one new member cracking the top ten.
After earning a spot in The Opening Finals and shining at the Elite 11 Finals last week, Cartersville (Ga.) quarterback Trevor Lawrence continues to be at the top of the 2018 rankings.
The Clemson pledge has been No. 1 in the 2018 rankings since the first Scout 300 for the class was launched last June and has further cemented himself as the top prospect in this class.
Behind Lawrence is the top defensive prospect in the 2018 class, Harrisburg (Pa.) Central Dauphin defensive end Micah Parsons. The five-star was committed to Penn State but opened up his recruitment this spring.
Plantation (Fla.) American Heritage cornerback Patrick Surtain and Las Vegas (Nev.) Bishop Gorman outside linebacker Palaie Gaoteote, a commit to USC, continue to be No. 3 and No. 4. in the rankings.
The lone newcomer to the top ten is quarterback Justin Fields. The Kennesaw (Ga.) Harrison passer is now No. 5 overall in this class, moving to the No. 2 quarterback behind Lawrence and giving the Peach State the top two quarterbacks in 2018. Fields, like Parsons, was a one-time commit to Penn State, but he opened his own recruitment up earlier this week.
Remaining at No. 6 is Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy defensive end Xavier Thomas and the top running back in the class is the No. 7 overall prospect, Zamir White from Laurinburg (N.C.) Scotland.
Coming in at No. 8 is the No. 1 offensive lineman in 2018, Atlanta (Ga.) Pace Academy guard Jamaree Salyer followed by Houston (Texas) Lamar cornerback Anthony Cook at No. 9.
Rounding out the top ten is Long Beach (Calif.) Poly quarterback Matt Corral, a commit to USC, the No. 3 quarterback in the country and the top offensive prospect in the West.
It continues to be a loaded receiver class, with 57 receivers in the Scout 300, led by Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei five-star Amon-Ra St. Brown.
There are 53 defensive backs on the list, 27 at cornerback, topped by Surtain and 26 at safety with B.J. Foster from Angleton (Texas) and a commit to Texas at the top.
The South has the most prospects in the Scout 300 with 116 players represented.
The Midlands and the West have 62 and 61 prospects in the 300 for 2018, followed by 34 from the East and rounded out with 27 from the Midwest.

In the East, players are taking their time and not jumping into commitments. There are 34 players from the region in the Scout 300, and 20 of them are uncommitted, including the top player, Micah Parsons.
Parsons, the No. 2 player in the nation and a defensive end at Harrisburg (Pa.) High, decommitted from Penn State in the spring but continues to have the Nittany Lions in his sight. He made several visits to campus in the last two months, and also has Alabama, Miami, Georgia and Ohio State among his suitors.
Five of the Top 10 players in the region are uncommitted, and looking hard at Big Ten programs.
Tight end Jeremy Ruckert of Lindenhurst (N.Y.) is focused on Ohio State, Michigan, Notre Dame and Wisconsin. He is also the No. 1 tight end in the nation now. Safety Isheem Young of Philadelphia (Pa.) Imhotep recently released a Top 12, and it includes Penn State, Ohio State and Michigan. West Virginia and Georgia are also heavily involved.
Meanwhile, Hightstown (N.J.) Peddie receiver Jahan Dotson is down to Michigan, Ohio State and Penn State and Ramsey (N.J.) Don Bosco defensive end Tyler Friday is looking hard at Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State and Rutgers, but will also make visits to other schools.
Top Newcomer: Mychale Salahuddin
Salahuddin holds more than three dozen offers, and his blistering offseason was punctuated with an invitation to The Opening. His speed, acceleration and ability to run balanced are all eye-catching. He is quick and fast, and he catches the ball out of the backfield. Salahuddin's Top 11 is Michigan, Maryland, Baylor, North Carolina, Arkansas, Temple, Michigan, USC, South Carolina, Wisconsin, Nebraska and Pittsburgh. It is subject to change since he is set to visit Georgia, Clemson and Ohio State in the next 10 days, and an offer from any of them could alter his thinking.
Highest Riser: Nana Asiedu
It was a move only a few slots, but the Penn State commit Asiedu is on five-star watch. The Stafford (Va.) North Stafford offensive tackle moved up from No. 8 to No. 5 in the region, and is now the No. 30 overall player in the 2018 class. He is also the No. 3 offensive tackle, and he earned his way there with an impressive spring. Asiedu is 6-foot-6, 270 pounds, and has a bundle of talent. He is long, athletic and quick. He moves his feet well, has a strong initial punch and his lateral movement is outstanding. He is new to playing offensive, so fine-tuning his technique is important, but he will be an elite level offensive tackle.
Significant Mover: Dante Stills
Stills had a huge showing at The Opening Regional Charlotte, and the four-star moved from outside of the Scout 300 to the No. 190 prospect in the class. Stills, a defensive tackle, showed quickness and suddenness in 1-on-1s. In recruiting, he is focused on West Virginia, where his dad played and his brother signed in February, Florida and Oklahoma.

It became apparent throughout the course of the spring that the defensive back group in the Midlands is spectacular. The region boasts two of the top uncommitted cornerback prospects nationally in Anthony Cook and Jalen Green. It is also loaded at safety as five prospects at the position are rated within the Top 100 nationally in B.J. Foster (Texas), Caden Sterns (Texas), DeMarvion Overshown (Texas), Atanza Vongor (TCU), and Leon O'Neal (Texas A&M).
Top Newcomer: DaShaun White
White is one of the most talented prospects on film, and has had a strong off-season off the field. One college coach mentioned that he was as good as any linebacker prospect in the nation and we agree that he is the type of linebacker who should excel in a college defense because he can run and he will finish tackles. White is now a member of the Scout 300. White is considering schools like Arkansas, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, TCU, Texas A&M and UCLA.
Highest Riser: Kalon Barnes
Barnes was one of two prospects from the Midlands region to add a fourth star in this rankings update. He is the type of prospect who possesses elite speed, most recently posting a 10.34 100 meter time to win the adidas Boys' Dream 100 meter dash in Boston, an event that featured some of the top track stars nationally. Because of that speed he has a scary upside as a football prospect at Baylor, where he is committed.
Significant Mover: Cameron Brown
The versatile athlete from St. Louis (Mo.) Christian Brothers College has moved into the Scout 300. The Nebraska commit picked up a fourth star after a dominating showing at the Under Armour Camp in Chicago, backing up the skill that we saw on tape, but also proving that he was one of the fastest players in the country as well. Brown has a blend of agility and straight line speed that is rare for a prospect with a longer looking 6’0, 170-pound frame.

We had ample opportunity in the Midwest to see players in the spring. We had two Under Armour Camps, two NIKE Opening Regionals and a United Stars Showcase which had a lot of top prospects. This allowed for some movement as, to the credit of most of the Midwest's top recruits, they came out and competed despite having big offer lists or All-American Game commitments firmed up.
Top Newcomer: Darian Kinnard
The Cleveland (Ohio) St. Ignatius offensive tackle is the highest new debut in the 300. A Kentucky commit, Kinnard had a fantastic offseason and has the size and tools to be a high-level tackle prospect.
Highest Riser: Rondale Moore
The biggest riser in the Midwest is the Louisville (Ky.) Trinity receiver. He has been an outstanding tester in the offseason, running 4.33 at The Opening Chicago and posting big numbers in the other stations as well. He is a weight room warrior and his overall explosiveness and playmaking ability makes him the best slot receiver in the region. His offers from Ohio State, Alabama, Texas and more back up that claim.
Significant Mover: Jaelen Gill
The Ohio State running back commit, who we had ranked conservatively previously because of an injury, has been dynamic at the last few camps we have seen him at and looks fully healthy and better than ever.

Quarterbacks turning heads has been the theme in the South for this class of 2018 from the outset considering the No. 1 player in the country, Clemson commitment Trevor Lawrence tops what is a deep and talented quarterback group nationally. The state of Georgia, alone, has the top passer, the steady-rising Justin Fields, a fellow five-star right on Lawrence's heels.
Ohio State commitment Emory Jones remains in the Scout100 while fellow four-stars Jarren Williams (Kentucky) and Cade Fortin (Texas A&M) continue to ascend. Williams was one of the hottest commodities in the South this spring before recommitting to the Wildcats and not only added his fourth star following a consistent showing at the Elite 11 Finals in Los Angeles, but he vaults into the Scout 300 in the process. Outside of the Peach State, more quarterbacks are on the rise like Michigan commitment Joe Milton, who also attained his fourth star.
The thorough QB class of 2018 will be long talked about and the South is where the signal-caller conversation begins.

The biggest moves in the West came from quarterbacks and further validates the depth of the position this year after the class of 2017 was a bit down top to bottom. Two newcomers in the Scout 300 are quarterbacks and our biggest riser in the region in this ranking is also a quarterback. In fact, six of the 12 quarterbacks selected to The Opening Finals are from the West and all are now members of the Scout 300
Top Newcomer: Tyler Shough
Shough checks in to the Scout 300 at No. 182 and is one of two quarterbacks out West to jump in to the 300 along with Camm Cooper. The Chandler (Ariz.) Hamilton signal caller saw his stock soar this off-season with scholarship offers flying in from all over the country. After seeing him up close at the Elite 11 Finals over the weekend, it was easy to see why. Shough is a pure passer with a great feel for the position. He has a smooth, easy delivery, is smart with the football and among the most accurate quarterbacks in the country. California, Indiana, Michigan, North Carolina and South Carolina are his finalists.
Highest Riser: Jack Tuttle
San Marcos (Calif.) Mission Hills quarterback Jack Tuttle jumps from the No. 44 player in the West to No. 13 in the region and No. 199 in the Scout 300 to No. 51. He is also the No. 6 quarterback in the country, up from No. 17. Tuttle has made incredible progress in the last year and improved in every facet of his game. He's bigger and stronger physically and throwing with a ton of confidence. The jump in both arm strength and accuracy is very noticeable and he has always been a very poised quarterback and a natural leader. The Utah commit should have a great college career.
Significant Mover: Justin Dedich
The Temecula (Calif.) Chaparral center is now the top rated offensive lineman out West. He moves from the No. 35 player in the West to No. 21 and No. 147 nationally to No. 87. It's not often a center is the top rated offensive lineman in the region but Dedich is very deserving. He was the OL MVP at the SoCal Nike Regional Camp, shows up great on film and is the kind of player we envision being a future captain and a three-year starter on the college level. Dedich is wide open in his recruitment but Arizona, Louisville, Mississippi, Oregon, Oregon State, UCLA, USC and Utah are just a few schools on his short list.

The 6-foot-4, 220-pound Walker is versatile enough to play multiple spots on the Alabama defense. He chose Alabama over finalists Auburn, LSU, Florida and South Carolina.
Walker is the nation's No. 162 overall recruit per the 247Sports composite and No. 11 outside linebacker. AL.com spoke with Walker about his commitment.
How does it feel to get the commitment out of the way?
"Pretty much it's a stress reliever and at the same time, it was something that I wanted to do and planned on doing. I'm pretty much excited about it and still smiling right now."
When did you tell coach Nick Saban that you were committing?
"I told him when I was up there (this past weekend). It was different since I told him face to face. It went well. At the same time, when I told him, he ended up smiling. Nick Saban doesn't smile much. I knew it was something big when I ended up seeing him smile."
When did you decide Alabama was going to be the place for you?
"Before my mom got up there, Alabama was telling me stuff that was totally different than other colleges, with me speaking to coach (Jeremy) Pruitt, coach Tosh (Lupoi), coach Derrick Ansley, it was just different than everybody else. With me going to a campus and going to multiple schools, it was my first time going to a school where I connected with multiple players. It was just a different feeling when I got there."
It was your mom's first trip up there, how did she react?
"She said once she got up there, everything was just right. She felt like when it's time for me to leave and everything, I'll be in great hands with everybody. With campus, she got a chance to see everything and she met with some of the players. That stood out with her, too. They tried to build a relationship with her and that played a big role in this."
Are you close with any other Alabama players?
"Right now, I'm close with (freshman linebacker) VanDarius (Cowan). I'm real close with him. I met other ones, but if we're speaking on with just being close, it would be VanDarius."
How do you see yourself fitting in Alabama's defense?
"There's so much that I can do because I'm so explosive. I can be a pass rusher or play inside and cover guys and just fill up those gaps. They told me on first and second down, I'd be playing inside linebacker and on third and fourth down, I'd be rushing (the passer)."
You visited Auburn before your commitment to Alabama. How close was Auburn?
"Auburn made its way to my No. 2 top school. Auburn made a big jump throughout my recruiting. Over these past three or four weeks, Auburn and Alabama and South Carolina have been recruiting me as hard as any other schools."
Do you know any other Alabama recruits well?
"I'm trying to reel in (Moultrie, Ga., four-star linebacker) JJ Peterson. I'm close with (linebacker) Jordan Davis, the Alabama commit and (receiver) Xavier Williams (another Alabama commit).
Do you think other schools will keep recruiting you?
"I'm 100 percent Alabama, but I know for a fact that Auburn and South Carolina are going to keep recruiting me. I've been getting texts about all day."
You're the third Alabama commit for this class and it has been a while since someone committed to Alabama in this class. Do you see that number rising quickly?
"I think by next week, it's going to start jumping and it's going to start going up and up."
