An "insider" on BOL says Jaycee Horn is down the board a bit as far as corners go.

If Bama3714 wants to chime in on what Redfish and BamaK are saying that would be great.

I've not heard much of anything on Horn. I'll post if one of them says something about him.

The DT we offered a few days ago, Keondre Coburn from Texas, told Taylor Hamm Alabama was his leader, but Hamm says he doesn't buy it.

He said he was close to CBing him to Texas.

St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.) cornerback Chris Steele has plenty of time before he needs to make a final decision on the school he will attend since he's part of the 2019 class, but for now he remains committed to UCLA despite big-time offers from SEC programs.

LSU offered the 6-foot-1, 190-pounder on May 1. Tigers defensive backs coach Corey Raymond extended the offer to Steele.

"He talked to my coach and my parents," he said. "I was in class when I got the news so I wasn't able to get on the phone (with Coach Raymond)."

Regarding the offer from LSU, Steele said: "The offer was huge for me, especially since I am a DB. They produce a lot of great DBs so I know if I go there, I'll be ready for the next level."

The soon-to-be junior doesn't have a date locked down just yet, but Steele will "definitely" be visiting LSU sometime this summer, he said.

In the last week, he has pulled in offers from Alabama and Mississippi State to go along with previous offers from USC, Nebraska, Arizona, Washington State, Arizona State, Colorado, and a few others.

"I'm committed to UCLA right now, but the 'Bama and LSU offers are huge and they mean a lot. I have a lot to think about," he said.

The Bruins offered Steele on Dec. 6 of last year and he pledged to them on Jan. 30, 2017.

Welcome to SEC Country’s daily Roll Tide-ings, a rundown of everything happening in Alabama Crimson Tide recruiting with Chris Kirschner. In this edition, we discuss the latest with 4-star Georgia defensive back Trey Dean and Florida wide receiver Warren Thompson.

Dean strongly considering Alabama

Trey Dean’s interest in Alabama doesn’t get much publicity. Read a recruiting article on Dean and it’s usually about Georgia or South Carolina. Those two schools are definitely in that top group for Dean, but Alabama should be mentioned, too.

Dean, a 4-star safety from Dutchtown High School (Hampton, Ga.), is the second cousin of Alabama legend Amari Cooper. The Crimson Tide are one of the top teams Dean is considering before he makes his commitment in late June.

“They have a great chance with me,” Dean told SEC Country. “They have that winning mentality, and that’s what I have.”

The 6-foot-2, 180-pound prospect was visited by Alabama defensive backs coach Derrick Ansley on May 8, which was the day his spring practices at Dutchtown began. Ansley has let Dean know that he is one of the Tide’s top targets in the Class of 2018 at safety. Dean also has the versatility to play cornerback, too.

In addition to the schools mentioned above, Tennessee, Texas and UCLA are also coming after Dean hard. The nation’s No. 24 safety claims no leaders at this point. He also says each of those schools is in contact with him every single day.

“They’re recruiting me very hard,” Dean said of Alabama. “A lot of SEC schools are recruiting me very hard, and they’re one of them.”

Dean credited Ansley with staying in touch with him every single day.

“I have a great relationship with him,” Dean said. “He’s a great coach. He’s got Alabama’s DBs looking really good.”

His coach told Jeff Sentell of DawgNation what a team will get in Dean if he ends up committing to that program.

“He can put his hands on you and not allow you to break his jam by shortening his jam and then he has the ability and speed to run with a fast receiver and play with them,” said Dutchtown coach Clifford Fedd. “I’ve seen him go from cornerback and handling an outside receiver just as well as that slot receiver. He can stick that short little slot receiver and he can stick with and cover that 6-foot-3 or 6-foot-4 receiver on the outside, too. He’s going to defeat that jump ball to that tall outside guy, too.”

Fedd went on to say that Denn has many other qualities.

“He has that ‘I.T.’ factor,” Fedd said. “That it factor. He has the work ethic to play at any Power 5 school on that level. He understands the game. His football IQ level is high. He understands what we ask of him here. He has that desire to be good and is that hard worker for us from the moment he steps in the door.”

Expect Dean to make his commitment to one of the schools listed above. He already knows how he’ll end up making his decision.

“I’m going to choose the school that God leads me to,” Dean said. “I think he’ll lead me on the right path. I’m going to lean on him for this decision.”

Dean will graduate high school in December and enroll in the school of his choice in January, which means he’ll be able to participate in spring practice.

What happened with Jaycee Horn?

From all of my talks with 4-star Alpharetta (Ga.) High School cornerback Jaycee Horn over the past few months, it seemed like he was destined to commit to Alabama. It was just going to be a matter of when. He grew up a fan of the Crimson Tide and said his father, former New Orleans Saints great Joe Horn, thought Alabama was the closest college program you can get to the NFL.

On Wednesday, Horn told SEC Country that the Crimson Tide no longer lead for him. South Carolina is now his leader. Before you say, “That’s fine, Alabama doesn’t want him anyway” or “he probably couldn’t commit to the Tide,” realize that Horn is one of the team’s top targets at cornerback.

Horn said he felt like Alabama was recruiting his good friend Kyler McMichael harder, which was one of the main reasons why he dropped the Tide. McMichael is a 4-star cornerback at Greater Atlanta Christian School (Norcross, Ga.). He also is one of the Tide’s top targets at cornerback. Horn and McMichael happen to be very close friends.

Clemson is believed to be the favorite for McMichael, so why would it matter to Horn then if Alabama isn’t even the favorite for his friend? He feels like the Tide are prioritizing other corners over him while he believes he is the No. 1 cornerback target for South Carolina. That’s the biggest difference. If Alabama starts to recruit Horn on the same level as McMichael, the Crimson Tide will likely regain the lead they once held.

Alabama is planning on signing four cornerbacks in its 2018 recruiting class. Four-star prospect Tyson Campbell, Miami commit Josh Jobe, 5-star recruit Patrick Surtain, McMichael and Horn are the top targets. Christian Tutt, a 4-star cornerback who is committing on May 30, does not have a committable offer at this time. He needs to attend camp next month for further evaluation.

We haven’t even done a numerical Rivals100 for the class of 2019 yet, but with so many offers going out for the class of 2020 as the recruiting cycle continues to speed up, we thought it would be a good time to take a look at some of the top rising sophomores in the country. We call it 20 for 20 and will roll out four a day this week for you to keep an eye on. Today’s list is led by the younger brother of a current five-star recruit.

This group boasts two players who are sons of former NFL standouts as Myles Hinton’s dad Chris was a standout offensive lineman for the Colts and others and RJ Micken’s dad Ray played for the Jets and others. Both have clearly been coached up well not only by their parents but also by their high school coaches. Hinton’s upside could surpass that of his older brother, Christopher, who is already a five-star in the 2019 class. Micken won’t have to worry about the lack of size his dad had to battle through during his career.

Florida wide receiver Deajaun McDougle could be the next speedy star from South Florida and cuts on a dime while Kobe Hudson is one of the best pure athletes in Georgia regardless of class and could play either way.

Here’s a breakdown of each from our analyst team.

OT Myles Hinton

“Hinton will play both sides of the ball in high school, but at the next level he looks like a big-time offensive tackle. He is naturally strong, he is advanced fundamentally and he is only going to get better. He was in the rotation as a freshman and he will become one of the leaders up front for his team in 2017. Hinton has been racking up big offer after big offer. There are no early favorites, but keep an eye on where his brother, 2019 five-star Christopher Hinton, goes, because they would love to play together.” – Chad Simmons, Rivals.com Southeast Recruiting Analyst

WR Deajaun McDougle

“McDougle's strength is his acceleration. It’s how he's able to best older, bigger defensive backs in game and camp settings. His explosiveness makes him difficult to jam and allows him to be a deep threat in the passing game. LSU offered McDougle in late March, and seemed to jump near the top of his list. He also holds offers from Oklahoma, Oregon and others.” – Rob Cassidy, Rivals.com Florida Recruiting Analyst

ATH Kobe Hudson

“Do you want Hudson to be a ball-hawk in the secondary at free safety or do you want him to make plays for you with the ball on offense? He can do both and he will do both throughout his high school career. He is scary quick with great instincts. He plays above his age and he is so naturally gifted. Around 20 schools have offered and Alabama and Georgia are two schools Hudson is high on early.” -- Simmons

CB RJ Mickens

“RJ is the son of former NFL cornerback Ray Mickens, but is already taller than his father. He may not quite be at that elite level in terms of pure speed, but his instincts in coverage and understanding when and how to locate incoming passes are second nature. In his recent appearance at the Rivals 3 Stripe Camp presented by adidas, he turned in one of the top performances of the day in pass coverage. Mickens has a number of top offers and most recently picked up Baylor, Michigan and Tennessee.” – Nick Krueger, Rivals.com Texas Recruiting Analyst

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. -- The lone out-of-state program to participate in Saturday's big spring jamboree at Jacksonville State University was Cordova (Tenn.) High and it featured several intriguing prospects including Jeremy Banks, the running back heating up on the trail.

Scout first noticed class of 2018 running back Jeremy Banks at The Opening New Orleans with his powerful frame and he has hit the ground running ever since, including over the weekend in full gear as Cordova (Tenn.) took on Trussville (Ala.) Hewitt-Trussville at Jacksonville State University.

The 6-foot-2, 215-pounder ran like his appearance suggested Saturday and even broke two long touchdown runs during his head-turning performance (video above).

"I'm just a straight downhill runner, not sideline to sideline though I can make a player miss," he said.

Several programs noticed, as Banks has added offers from Southern Miss, Tulane and Jacksonville State since the outing. It was clear his effort would result in an uptick withing his recruitment.

"I want to thank God for this opportunity, I want to thank my coaches for bringing us all the way here on this Saturday and I want to thank Jacksonville State program for getting us here," he said after the two-score performance. "It was about five hours solid and it helped our team bond good.

"We did a great job today."

The rising senior running back had a brief boom in his recruitment before the event, too, including his initial Power 5 offer as many others remain interested.

"Old Dominion University and Virginia Tech offered me, Mississippi State is talking to me, too," Banks said. "I grew up watching Alabama at home, I love their running backs, they're downhill, strong runners. They pound the rock. That offer would mean a lot, I would thank God.

"I'm from Mississippi, you're gonna get it in the mud and work for what you want."

The Crimson Tide, Bulldogs, Tennessee Volunteers and a host of others had assistant coaches keeping an eye on all of the top prospects participating in the jamboree.

Next up for Banks following the spring will be his initial impression of some of the offering programs in addition to semi-local camps as his offer list continues to grow.

"I'm going to Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Virginia Tech camps and visits to the University of Massachusetts and Old Dominion, too," he said.

Following the trips, depending on what his options look like at the time, the next step in recruiting may be made towards an eventual decision. But no timetable is in place at this time.

"I'm just being patient, God is gonna let me know the time," Banks said.
