Jalyn Armour-Davis, defensive back

The in-state star Armour-Davis included Auburn in his top six along with Florida, Florida State, Georgia, LSU and USC last month. He did not make Auburn’s A-Day Game as he had to take the ACT, but the Tigers are believed to be a top contender.

Despite not making his Top 6, Hank South believes Alabama still has a shot at landing him.

Jacob Copeland, wide receiver

The elite receiver unveiled his top five schools on Twitter this week -- Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Ole Miss and Tennessee. Copeland plans to announce his decision during the 2018 Under Armour All-America Game in January.

Copeland was in Tuscaloosa yesterday. No word on his visit yet.

Richard Jibunor, defensive end/linebacker

As Jibunor's stock continues to rise this spring, Auburn and Alabama are along for the ride. Jibunor hears from the Tigers and Tide most often and has a solid relationship with fellow Nigerian Prince Tega Wanogho Jr. on the Plains. A timetable for a decision has not been set.

This kid is blowing up.

Harold Joiner, running back

Last month Auburn, LSU and Ole Miss made up Joiner’s “unofficial” top three. Now Alabama and Georgia are in his unofficial top five. The Tide offered earlier this month and he believes the Bulldogs are close to doing the same. He hopes to make up his mind around December.

Coynis Miller, defensive end

Miller’s top schools are Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Georgia and Ole Miss. He was in Auburn for A-Day last weekend and expects to see Alabama’s A-Day too. He is the former teammate of Auburn signee T.D. Moultry, but grew up an Alabama fan.

Bo Nix, quarterback

Nix is the son of former Auburn quarterback Patrick Nix. He grew up rooting for the Tigers, but is remaining patient with his recruitment. The 2019 prospect holds offers from the likes of Alabama, Clemson, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Ohio State and Tennessee.

Justyn Ross, wide receiver

While Justyn Ross is ranked as the top wide receiver prospect in the state by most recruiting services, his recruitment remains a mystery. Ross is waiting for his mother to return from her military stay in Kuwait this summer so they can narrow down his list of offers to some contenders. However, he has said Alabama and Auburn recruit him harder than any other school.

Seth Williams, wide recevier

Bryant plays his football in Tuscaloosa for Paul Bryant High School, but Auburn is in good position to land his commitment. Williams told AL.com last month that Auburn, Ole Miss and Georgia recruit him the hardest and Auburn “sticks out from the rest.” He plans to take more visits this offseason before narrowing things down.

We apparently haven't reached out to Williams in some time, but he still says we are in it.

One of the region's top prospects in the 2019 class has Alabama as his leader.

Auburn isn't too far behind, though, for LaGrange, Ga., linebacker King Mwikuta.

Mwikuta, a 6-foot-4, 220-pound four-star recruit ranked as the country's No. 70 overall recruit and No. 5 outside linebacker, has Alabama on top followed by Georgia, Auburn, Florida State and Clemson in that order, he said Saturday after Auburn's A-Day game.

Mwikuta, who aspires a career in radiology, is being recruited to Auburn to play the BUCK position (defensive end/linebacker hybrid). He has made the close trip from LaGrange to Auburn numerous times.

"First, their practice (stands out), I can say that," Mwikuta said. "People around, fans, coaches. I can say the culture is good. I always harp on that when I come here. I say the culture is good around here. That's one of the things I look for in a school, the doctoral school. The culture around, you can't have bad culture because that brings bad habits around."

But Alabama, a school which offered in January, still leads. Mwikuta has made multiple trips to Tuscaloosa this spring.

"They're top of the list right now," he said. "They're going to win regardless of the situation."

What makes Alabama his leader?

"I like (outside linebackers) coach Tosh (Lupoi) a lot over there and (secondary) coach (Derrick) Ansley," Mwikuta said. "That's really the school that started recruiting me as a linebacker and I just learned how to play in open space and open field. I like that move from a five, (having) hand in the dirt to a 'wide nine' (spread out) standing up and rushing the quarterback. I like that."

Mwikuta wants to make an early commitment, but not too early. He said he's targeting a commitment around this time next year.

Caleb Tannor visited Auburn in early April and watched the Tigers practice, but he would have liked to have seen more of the campus and talked more with the coaches.

So Tannor, a weakside defensive end from Miller Grove in Lithonia, Ga., returned to Auburn Saturday afternoon for an overnight visit.

“I came after the spring game and it went really good,” Tannor said. “I got to spend a lot of time with the coaches.”

Tanner met extensively with Auburn linebackers coach Travis Williams, area recruiter Larry Porter and defensive line coach Rodney Garner. He also met with defensive coordinator Kevin Steele and coach Gus Malzahn.

“I spent a lot of time with Coach T-Will,” Tannor said. “We sat and talked and played Madden a little bit, basically just hung out. I like Coach T-Will a lot. Him and the rest of the coaches give out good impressions.”

Good enough to list the Tigers among his top schools.

“I like Auburn a lot,” Tannor said. “I like the campus a lot and the indoor facility and dorms. I like everything at Auburn. They are one of my top schools and I’ll definitely be back for another visit.”

Tannor said Auburn, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee and Missouri make up his top five, but didn’t list a leader of the group and isn’t in a hurry to do so.

“I’m not in a rush,” Tannor said. “I’m going to wait it out.”

Tannor, who stands 6-foot-3 and weighs 235 pounds, is scheduled to visit Tennessee on Friday.

Alabama's top 15 targets

Check out 15 top targets in this class who are not currently committed to Alabama who Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide staff are after.

This list does not include prospects who are already committed to Alabama, but includes some that Alabama is trying to flip.

Justyn Ross, WR, Phenix City, Ala.

Justyn Ross is the state's top prospect and lone five-star recruit. Ross spoke on his recent visits to Alabama and Auburn at Auburn's A-Day, but tweeted how great of a visit he had to Clemson, so those Tigers could challenge the in-state schools. Ross will narrow his recruitment down when his mother returns from serving overseas.

Coynis Miller, DL, Birmingham, Ala.

The 6-foot-4, 290-pound defensive end is a teammate of an Auburn signee but mentioned two Alabama defensive linemen that he looked up to when asked. This is likely to be an Iron Bowl battle for one of the state's top defenders.

Different sites have different height measurements for Miller. I've seen him at 6'4" in some places and 6'1" in others.

Henry is a five-star recruit ranked No. 20 nationally. Alabama is in his top 10, but will probably be in a narrowed-down list even more. Henry likes Alabama. Clemson will be tough to beat.

Unije, who transferred from Johns Creek, Ga., to the IMG Academy, is very high on Alabama and the Crimson Tide are always after elite tackles. His personality and work ethic seems like it would fit in well with Alabama.

Quarterback to be named later

This is a wide-range of players and will really come to light when offensive coordinator Brian Daboll can watch the quarterbacks throw in person.

Alabama recently offered Jarren Williams (pictured, courtesy 247Sports) of Central Gwinnett in Lawrenceville, Ga.., and his coach feels like he's the best prospect he's ever coached.

In-state QB James Foster will get a chance to throw. Alabama is also targeting some West Coast quarterbacks such as uncommitted Tanner McKee, Cal commit Adrian Martinez, Utah commit Jack Tuttle and uncommitted South Carolina prospect DeKereon Joyner. McKee will go on a Mormon mission and essentially be a 2020 recruit, so if he chooses the Tide, another one will likely sign, too.

Peterson is now the nation's No. 1 outside linebacker and plays for Rush Propst at Colquitt County. He said at the Opening regional that Alabama was his leader. Obviously, the Crimson Tide will have to hold off the likes of Georgia and Auburn.

Kelvin Joseph, DB, Baton Rouge, La.

A five-star cornerback, Joseph has been committed to LSU for more than a year. But he nearly decommitted last summer after an Alabama visit. One would think LSU would be able to hold onto its top in-state guys in this class after promoting Ed Orgeron to head coach, but Alabama has to feel good after signing a haul of top Louisiana prospects in the last class.
