With a nickname like "The Hulk," plenty is expected of five-star defensive tackle Kendell Jones when he arrives in a football town like Tuscaloosa. But the Alabama commitment was the talk of last weekend among official visitors because of not only his sheer size, but having the personality to match.

Jones isn't the most outspoken recruit in the class of 2016 and most would consider him reserved, but not among his fellow Bama-bound recruits.

"I spent time with Kendell Jones, it was my first time meeting him," four-star UA verbal Quinnen Williams said. "He’s just a great dude, a funny dude, a laid back kind of guy."
"He’s hilarious," fellow four-star pledge Brendan Scales told BamaMag. "We were in a meeting and we were in a classroom. He walked in late joking around like, ‘Oh, shoot, I’m late for the first day of class!' He sat down and probably made the most noise out of anybody that I’ve heard. The chair was cracking and it was hilarious."

The fun carried over to Nick Saban's house on Sunday.

"We were actually riding golf carts at coach Saban's house and he jumped on the back of mine. The front wheels came up," Riley Cole said with a laugh. "He's ridiculous, like the class clown."

Im starting to think that we might not take a full class this year. With as many elite targets that we are in on for 2017, that might not be such a bad thing.

I also wonder if Terrell Hall will be able to make it this weekend. DC is supposed to get dumped with snow tomorrow.

Hank says we're likely taking 10 more

Saban apparently visited this guy:

Zero stars and no offers. I hope this visit was to offer him a preferred walk-on spot.

Unless something has changed, his number is low. We're expecting to lose another commitment or two (don't know who, but this was mentioned by someone I trust), and even before that, the total number of signees was expected to be 27-28. Now, Allen coming back might have screwed the numbers up. I don't know.

Me too. If we did, I think it would be because of grades.

Josh Perry was one name mentioned.

He also said that Shyheim Carter may not be a take. That was really interesting to me. I would imagine the Perry/Carter thing would go together.

But then again we seem to be all about Donovan Smith, the WR teammate of Carter and Perry in the c/o 2017. Who knows. I'm sure it'll change a dozen more times before Signing day.

Why would Carter not be a take? We have some three star in the wings?

I will be shocked if we get ten commitments by NSD and half of them aren't three stars.

Supposedly on the borderline. Viewed as a good, solid SEC player, but not a 1st round draft pick.

It'll be interesting with DB recruiting, especially with Pruitt there now. If you recall, he made some really nice evaluations on DBs at FSU. Nate Andrews, Jalen Ramsey (who, granted, became very highly rated later in the process), and another guy whose name escapes me. He's a terrific talent evaluator. And obviously CNS is no slouch himself.

I'd rather us just take five more recruits and prepare to make 2017 epic than taking some of these borderline prospects.

Most of the big fish left on our board (aside from the in-state guys) appear to be leaning elsewhere. Not a great position to be in two weeks before NSD.

It puzzles me that we look to be taking a lot of three stars, but are not offering more from the state of Alabama. I'd rather have Velus Jones over Korey Banks. I'd take Jeawon Taylor over Josh Perry. Hell, I'd take a flyer on Jamal Couch as well since it looks like we have the room.

From Weagle25. Updates on our targets:

quote:

Offense
WRs:
4* Ahhmon Richards AU-Miami battle. Miami trending

OTs:
5* Landon Dickerson FSU/UT lead. Very close with FSU Oline coach

Defense
DT:
5* Derrick Brown AU, UGA, UT, Bama are final four. OVs UGA then UT. Most believe it's a AU-UGA battle but some believe AU and Bama are the ones that are trending
5* Rashan Gary Michigan
4* Michail Carter Bama and UGA on top

LB:
5* Ben Davis Auburn no better than 3rd right now
4* Jaleel Laguins UGA commit. Hoping to get him to OV

S:
4* Nigel Warrior Vols legacy. Vols are favorite. Likes playing time available at AU a lot

I highly doubt Saban gives a crap about stars.

If he does, he'll soon go the way of Mack Brown.

The point of that post is that I just wish he'd give a crap about recruiting more in-state players.

We seemed to lead for Kongbo earlier this week, and it's gone:

Really? (On Velus Jones) I don't like him at all as an SEC WR. Just don't think he's very good. His tape wasn't anything special, and he did nothing in the All-Star games or practices to impress.
