The best part of All-American games isn't even the game itself. It's the daily, rep-by-rep battles we get to observe in the practices leading up to the game. Below, I bring you the five matchups on each team that I'm most excited to see play out this week at the Under Armour All-American Game practices.

DT, Kendell Jones vs. OG, Deonte Brown – Jones is listed at 370 pounds. Brown is conservatively listed at 350 pounds. The earth will tremble when these two dudes lock horns. Get used to the tremors though as these two are both Alabama commits and this will serve as a preview of practice in Tuscaloosa over the next three years.

WR, A.J. Brown vs. CB, Levonta Taylor – There isn't a bigger talker at the wide receiver position than Brown. He's also a fierce competitor and a physical mismatch. There isn't a better corner in the country than Taylor. The trash talk will be half the fun of this matchup but the play from snap to whistle will be as entertaining as anything we'll see all week.

There's no hiding at an All-American practice or game. The weak get exposed and the elite step forward. As the Under Armour All-American Bowl gets rolling on Monday with player check-in, we take a look at some of the storylines on the field we're most excited to see.

quote:

Five-star chasers

There are currently 18 five-stars on 247Sports. By national signing day there will be 32 players in the prestigious fraternity. There's a lot to be decided still and the All-American game performances will be an important measuring stick. It's safe to say that any prospect ranked in the 19-32 range has a strong shot at earning a fifth star but there are several others that we feel are very close to making bigger leaps with strong Under Armour showings.

quote:

***CB Kristian Fulton (Current rank: 46) – Elite cornerbacks are hard to come by in this 2016 cycle but Fulton may be as complete as any in the country. With an opportunity to show out against a deep receiving corps, Fulton has an opportunity to make a big leap.

Questions answered

quote:

Who is the top receiver? – Kyle Davis is the No. 1 receiver according to 247Sports but he did not have a great senior season. He will need an outstanding week in Orlando to hang onto the title. Tyrie Cleveland, Nate Craig-Myers and A.J. Brown are among a host of pass-catchers that have a legitimate shot at the No. 1 wide receiver crown.

Five uncommitted, two committed but looking

quote:

LB Ben Davis
Gordo (Ala.)

The skinny: Davis currently lists Georgia No. 1 on his list and he has taken official visits to Georgia and LSU. He plans to visit Notre Dame on Jan. 15, Auburn on Jan. 22 and Alabama on Jan. 29.

If today was National Signing Day: The Georgia Bulldogs are making a strong push, but it is hard to bet against Nick Saban. The Tide get the signature.

LB Lyndell Wilson
Montgomery (Ala.) Carver

The skinny: Wilson has a top three of Florida, Alabama and Georgia, and he plans to take January official visits to all three. He will visit Georgia on Jan. 15, Alabama on Jan. 22 and Florida on Jan. 29. Wilson has named Florida his leader.

If today was National Signing Day: Wilson would choose Alabama. He has put the Gators at the top of his list, but when push comes to shove it is going to be hard to pull him away from the Tide.

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. - Registration day at the Under Armour All-America game brought a steady stream of high-level prospects through the Marriot World Center Hotel. Standing out physically isn't an easy task for prospects in such an elite setting, but a few managed to do so anyway. Below is a list of the prospects that boasted notable looks during registration.

quote:

WR Keith Gavin
Crawfordville (Fla.) Wakulla

Gavin is down to Florida State and Alabama. He made a splash in the hotel lobby by showing up wearing Alabama sweat pants. A once-time Florida State commit, Gavin's length and size are impressive, sure, but his choice of outfit created more buzz than anything else. There's no telling how his clothing choice means, but it was certainly noted by all those in attendance.

The Under Armour All-America Game players arrived throughout the day Monday for registration. Here are more news and notes from later arrivals.

quote:

LB Lyndell Wilson, Montgomery (Ala.) Carver

Alabama, Florida and Georgia are thought to be the leaders for Wilson. And while Alabama seems the most likely landing spot, Wilson insists Florida is his current leader. According to the five-star prospect, Alabama currently sits in second place with UGA running third. Wilson will visit all three programs in the coming month.

What he said: "The important things for me are the bond I have with the coaches and players, the academic rate and how fast I'll be able to get my degree and graduate. I want to major in photography or sports management."

DE Terrell Hall Washington (D.C.) St. John's College High

Hall has some tough decisions to make as we head down the home stretch. He has taken official visits to Florida and Florida State and has three more set for UCLA on Jan. 15, Alabama on Jan. 22, and Ole Miss on Jan. 29. Maryland is very much in the mix as well and there is a chance he takes an unofficial visit to College Park before his National Signing Day commitment.

What he said: "Florida set the tone for all my other official visits. Florida State was my best visit so far. I want to see if it feels the same at Alabama. Alabama is
on even ground with Florida State and Ole Miss is up there too. Maryland is pushing really hard."

LB Dontavious Jackson Houston (Texas) Elsik

Jackson has taken official visits to UCLA, Michigan, and Florida State, and he will take official visits to Alabama (January 22) and Florida (January 15). He plans to take unofficial visits to Texas Florida State, and LSU before Signing Day, and he will make his college announcement on Signing Day.

What he said: (On why people think Texas may be the favorite) "Probably because I've visited so much. It's a two-hour drive. My cousins live there. So they feel like it's the best situation for me. And me visiting really helped their opinion."

DT Michail Carter Jackson, Ga.

Carter will have a busy January because he is going to try to squeeze all five of his official visits in before committing on National Signing Day. Clemson will host him on Jan. 15, Georgia on Jan. 22 and Georgia Tech on Jan. 29. Carter also said Alabama and Auburn will get mid-week official visits in January.

What he said: "I will say that Alabama is recruiting me the hardest. I like the way Bo Davis coaches."

Keith Gavin, Crawfordville (Fla.) Wakulla

Gavin says he's down to Florida State and Alabama, which isn't news to most. He is yet to take official visit to either school and plans to do so in the coming month. A one-time Florida State commit, Gavin showed up in Orlando wearing Alabama sweat pants.

What he said: "With Alabama, I like all the coaching staff and the school itself. At Florida State, it was a dream school to go. I decomitted because I did it too early. It was before the season. I want to look around. Now it's either them or Alabama."

ATH Shyheim Carter Kentwood, La.

It's tough to sniff out where Carter is headed and according to him he's yet to schedule any of his official visits. He did however say that Alabama, Ole Miss and Georgia are the schools recruiting him the hardest and he's planning on making trips to all three in January. The odds-on favorite to land Carter remains Alabama, but he's keeping his decision under wraps until National Signing Day.

What he said: "Me and Coach (Alabama defensive coordinator Jeremy) Pruitt, we've been having a good relationship since he was at Georgia."

WR Cavin Ridley, Deerfield Beach, Fla.

Ridley's older brother, Calvin, is becoming a household name at Alabama and Cavin Ridley is expected to follow his family lineage. He may or may not announce his commitment at Saturday's game and is expected to choose the Crimson Tide should that take place.

What he said: "I got Alabama, South Carolina and Tennessee. I might announce. They're gonna tell me if I can or something like that. I'm ready, though, I think."

Michael Allen thought he would have to attend another Alabama prospect camp this summer before reeling in an offer. He was mistaken.

The 3-star defensive end from Buford, Ga., was offered by the Crimson Tide on Dec. 14. It marked his fourth offer to date.

“I’m surprised,” Allen told SEC Country. “I wasn’t expecting an offer so early. I thought they’d want me to come back for another camp.”

The 6-foot-6, 226-pound junior out of Lanier High School has primarily been recruited by defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt and defensive line coach Bo Davis. Allen is the teammate of Alabama target Derrick Brown, the top-rated prospect in Georgia.

Allen has also reported an offer from Vanderbilt.

He is rated as the No. 49 prospect in Georgia in next year’s recruiting cycle.
