Alabama

Class: Lester Cotton, Richie Petitbon, Dallas Warmack, Brandon Kennedy and Matt Womack

247Composite ratings: Four 4-stars, One three-star

Glance: Alabama did a nice job with this group of offensive linemen. It is heavy on interior linemen -- there isn't a true left tackle in the class -- but it hit on the majority of the needs. Cotton was a pancacke machine at Central-Tuscaloosa and while he likely projects as left guard, he could get a chance at tackle. Petitbon has the kind of nasty streak you love to see in offensive linemen - he's going to have a very productive career at Alabama. It could take time for Kennedy to fully transition to center, but he's a smart kid and once he gets a bit more aggressive, he'll be good. Womack is the biggest project of the bunch, but he's worth taking a shot on at 6-foot-7. Alabama didn't sign the true left tackle it wanted - Drew Richmond, Isaiah Prince and Chidi Valentine-Okeke were all late misses - but this is a strong group.

quote:

Auburn

Class: Tyler Carr, Bailey Sharp, Marquel Harrell, Kaleb Kim and Mike Horton

247Composite ratings: Four 4-stars, One 3-star

Glance: Like Alabama, Auburn didn't sign the true left tackle it badly wanted. The Tigers were right there in the end for both Martez Ivey and Chidi Valentine-Okeke, but lost both to SEC rivals. This class is also heavy on interior offensive linemen. Kim, who stands at 6-foot-3, 280-pounds, could be the center of the future for Auburn. Carr has the potential to play multiple positions, though he's likely a guard. The Southside-Gadsden prospect could be the gem of this group. Sharp at 6-foot-5, 280-pounds could be a good bet to be a right tackle at Auburn. He got pushed around at the Under Armour All-America Game, but he's got a high ceiling. Harrell is a well-regarded offensive guard who basically had his pick of the SEC.

quote:

Winner: Alabama. On paper the two classes are very similar -- each has four 4-stars and one 3-star -- but you need to look a little closer. Alabama has two top five offensive guards (Cotton and Petitbon), while Auburn's top-rated is Carr at No. 10. Both of these classes missed on a top left tackle prospect, and ultimately, Alabama has the superior interior line group. The Crimson Tide's top three of Cotton, Petitbon and Kennedy tops Auburn's trio of Sharp, Carr and Harrell. It's worth noting that none of the 10 offensive linemen signed by the two schools will likely make a big impact next year.

Alabama

Class: Adonis Thomas, Josh McMillon and Keaton Anderson

247Composite ratings: Two 4-stars, One 3-star

Glance: Alabama needed linebackers and got three good ones in Thomas, McMillon and Anderson. All three are listed as outside linebackers on 247Sports, but at least two could end up elsewhere. Thomas, who stands at 6-foot-3, 230-pounds, projects as a middle linebacker in Alabama's scheme. He's an athletic linebacker who played multiple positions, including receiver, in high school. The 6-foot-3, 250-pound McMillon could also be an inside linebacker. He's not especially fast, but he's strong and can make plays in open space. Anderson, who has been compared to Vinnie Sunseri, could transition to safety or "Star" in certain packages. He's more athletic than people give him credit for and has good sideline-to-sideline speed. Overall, this is a very solid group for the Crimson Tide.

quote:

Auburn

Class: Jeffrey Holland, Darrell Williams, Richard McBryde and Montavious Atkinson

247Composite ratings: Four 4-stars

Glance: Auburn did a terrific job with this group of four four-star prospects. Holland, who picked the Tigers on National Signing Day, is the highest-rated of the group. The athletic outside linebacker figures to be a factor as a pass-rusher in Auburn's new schemes under Will Muschamp. He's a talented overall player and can make plays all over the field. Williams, the Hoover star, is terrific in pass coverage because of long arms and a big frame. He can rush the passer, too, but he's more effective in either coverage or roaming the middle of the field. On a Hoover team that featured multiple SEC players, Williams was the best. McBryde is a bit smaller than Williams, and could be either an outside linebacker or safety at Auburn. He's very athletic and impressed a lot of people not only at winter all-star games, but throughout his senior season. Atkinson could be either an inside linebacker or safety for the Tigers. He gets the least amount of buzz out of the four, but he's a gamer. He plays smart, but can lay the wood on opposing players, too.

quote:

Winner: Auburn. Both schools brought in nice linebacker classes, but it's hard to top the quantity and quality of Auburn this year. There isn't a five-star among the group, but all four could make relatively early impacts on the Plains. Landing Holland on National Signing Day was the cherry on top of an already stellar linebacker group.

JMO, but I see Adonis as being the best of either group. Auburn signed the better overall group though. I see AT as having a CJ Mosley type impact before he leaves Tuscaloosa.

Alabama

Class: Calvin Ridley, Daylon Charlot and Hale Hentges

247Composite ratings: One 5-star,Two four-stars

Glance: Alabama did very well with this group of pass-catchers. Ridley, a five-star from Pompano Beach, Fla., is the crown jewel of the class. He is rated the nation's top receiver, according to 247Composite, and should have a chance to make an immediate impact with Heisman Trophy finalist Amari Cooper off to the NFL. Ridley isn't particularly big -- 6-foot, 170-pounds -- but he's incredibly gifted and possesses pretty much every trait you want in a playmaker receiver. Charlot has a similar build to Ridley, though he's a bit stouter at 190 pounds. He's got good hands, elusive and could be a candidate to make an immediate impact on punt returns. Hentges is rated as the nation's No. 2 tight end and looked terrific at the Under Armour All-America Game. His blocking can improve, but it was better than expected, and he's got good hands. Hentges could earn playing time next to O.J. Howard next season.

quote:

Auburn

Class: Ryan Davis, Darius Slayton and Jalen Harris

247Composite ratings: Two 4-stars, 1 3-star

Glance: Auburn didn't land the elite receiver it was looking for, but did add three quality pieces. Slayton is the top-rated player of the class. Auburn initially recruited him as a defensive back, but after missing on a few of its other targets like John Burt, switched its approach and recruited him as a receiver. Slayton, a former UGA commit, has solid size at 6-foot-1, 180-pounds and good speed. Davis is a speedy, slot receiver-type at 5-foot-9, 170-pounds. Harris has a good frame for a tight end, but doesn't possess great speed or blocking skills yet. He has plenty of potential, but it could take a bit for the Auburn coaches to mold him into an impact player.

quote:

Winner: Alabama. This is one of the more lopsided discussions as Alabama signed the better player at each spot. Auburn certainly added talent with this group, but it would have been a much more interesting debate if it had signed Terry Godwin. Alabama has the only elite player (Ridley) of the group and that itself puts it over the top. Ridley, Charlot and Hentges also seem more game-ready than Auburn's trio.

Alabama

Name: Blake Barnett

Size: 6-foot-4, 200-pounds

247Composite rating: 5-stars

Glance: Barnett, an Under Armour All-American, arrives in Tuscaloosa from California. He is known as a talented mobile quarterback who seems to be best when he's outside the pocket. He can beat you with either his legs or arm, though his accuracy is still a work in progress. Top schools like Oregon told him he could come in and start from Day 1, but he wanted to compete at Alabama.

quote:

Auburn

Name: Tyler Queen

Size: 6-foot-2, 229-pounds

247Composite rating: 3-stars

Glance: Queen is rated the nation's 15th best pro-style quarterback, according to 247Composite. Queen isn't super athletic, but he has a solid arm and had a very productive high school career. He has solid size and should have an easy transition to a lot of what Auburn runs on offense.

quote:

Winner: Alabama. Even if you factor in Jason Smith, an athlete who could get a shot at quarterback, the Crimson Tide signed the better quarterback class in 2015. Barnett, a five-star, is regarded as an elite high school quarterback and might even get a chance to start this year, though he'd have to jump multiple players on the depth chart. Both schools did well at quarterback this year, but Barnett gives Alabama the victory.

Alabama

Class: Bo Scarbrough, Damien Harris and DeSherrius Flowers

247Composite ratings: Two 5-stars (Scarbrough and Harris), One 4-star (Flowers)

Glance: This is an extremely talented group when you include Scarbrough, who was initially a part of Alabama's 2014 class but didn't enroll until this January. Scarbrough is the tank of the group at 6-foot-2, 225-pounds. He's big enough to run over people, but quick enough to run around, too. Harris is a little smaller at 5-foot-11 and 205-pounds, but is capable of carrying a heavy load and has "Matrix-like moves," according to his high school coach. He looked like the best running back in the country at the Under Armour All-America Game. Flowers, a Vigor product, was hampered by injuries all year, but he's well-built at 6-foot, 200-pounds and is clearly athletic. Given Alabama's consistent depth at the running back position, Flowers remains a good candidate to transition to defense during his career.

quote:

Auburn

Class: Jovon Robinson, Kerryon Johnson and Chandler Cox

247Composite ratings: Three 4-stars

Glance: Auburn has one of, if not the, best group of running backs in the country. The most likely to make an immediate impact is Robinson, who was rated as the nation's top junior college prospect. Robinson is an elite prospect and should push Roc Thomas for the lion's share of carries next fall. Johnson, No. 1 on AL.com's A-List, excelled at running back, slot receiver and safety at Madison Academy. Auburn coach Gus Malzahn compared him to Darren McFadden on National Signing Day, and vowed to utilize him his freshman season. Cox could be the nation's best fullback. This class hit all of Auburn's running back needs.

quote:

Winner: Auburn. This might be the closest call of the entire series; it's a 51/49 type edge for the Tigers. You can easily make an argument for either class, but Auburn's looks a bit more reliable. Flowers could be moved elsewhere and it's hard to know what to expect from Scarbrough, especially early on in his career, after a long layoff. Robinson is the best bet to make the greatest immediate impact, while Johnson, Alabama's Mr. Football, looks like a future star. There is zero doubt that both coaching staffs are extremely happy with their running back hauls.

I'd take Bo Scar and Damien Harris over anyone else's RB haul. I think Jovon Robinson makes the most immediate impact, but he could be one and done. Bo Scar and Harris will be reeking havoc on tSEC for awhile. Kerryon could be moved elsewhere just like Flowers might be moved elsewhere.

Dwayne Haskins Sets Decision Plans: Which Team Has Best Shot to Land 4-Star QB?
By Tyler Donohue , National Recruiting Analyst Feb 18, 2015

Quarterback Dwayne Haskins appears to be entering the final stretch toward a collegiate commitment.

The 4-star Maryland prospect shared potential announcement plans Tuesday during a discussion with Todderick Hunt of NJ.com.

"Hopefully, it'll be early April, around that time, probably around the time of Elite 11 camp," Haskins said.

He is expected to compete at the Washington D.C. Regional Elite 11 showcase on April 19. There's also a strong chance Haskins will be invited to participate in national Elite 11 finals, held this summer at Nike's world headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon.

Rated fifth nationally among pro-style passers in 247Sports' composite rankings, Haskins is considered one of the premier Mid-Atlantic prospects in this 2016 recruiting cycle. College interest extends far beyond the region.

He collected scholarship offers from Ohio State, Clemson, Florida, Nebraska, Notre Dame and Miami before the end of his sophomore year. Texas, Ole Miss, UCLA, Penn State, LSU and Alabama are among the programs that have extended offers since.

The 2014 Maryland Gatorade Player of the Year now has nearly 40 FBS options to consider.

“Years ago you dream about signing, and thinking about it being so close, it’s crazy," Haskins told Mark Giannotto of The Washington Post earlier this month.

The 6'3", 185-pound passer spent the past two seasons picking apart opponents at The Bullis School. He's thrown for 3,066 yards and 36 touchdowns since 2013, per MaxPreps.

Haskins headed north for his past two campus visits, traveling to Rutgers twice since January. His most recent trip took place Feb. 16, though he anticipates an expanded travel itinerary as the clock ticks toward a decision.

"I haven't been able to visit any schools other than Rutgers lately because my mom has business up there, so she's always traveling back and forth," Haskins told Hunt. "But now that it's getting closer and closer to commitment day, I'm gonna be taking some more visits."

He shared an expansive list of possible upcoming destinations Tuesday on Twitter:

For those who may not be fluent in hashtag terminology, Haskins aims to check out Alabama, Auburn, Arizona State, Michigan, LSU, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, UCLA and Arizona.

That agenda is certainly a tall task considering his timeline and would probably require an epic spring break.

"I'm gonna try to if my schedule permits me to," he told Hunt. "I mean, it's a lot of traveling and a lot of money, so I'll see if I can make it to some of those schools, but probably can't make all of them."

You can be sure each coaching staff would welcome him to campus with open arms, especially with the anticipation that he's nearing a decision. Big Ten newcomers Rutgers and Maryland likely hope his collegiate exploration is limited in the coming months.

Both programs have put themselves in excellent position to land a playmaker who could become a catalyst for either class.

He spent this past Saturday in New York City, hanging out with Rutgers product Mohamed Sanu, who is now a Cincinnati Bengals receiver, and 2016 Scarlet Knights commit Mohamed Jabbie (Sanu's nephew).

Haskins grew up near Rutgers and became familiar with both players through youth football.

"We enjoyed each other's company because I haven't been able to hang out with Little Mo since Pop Warner days," Haskins told Hunt. "He's not pushing me too much, but he'll have little tidbits here and there about why I should go."

Maryland, meanwhile, has made Haskins a top priority as the crown jewel of its in-state recruiting efforts. The Terrapins are a viewed as a slight favorite to sign Haskins among the 39 experts who've contributed predictions to his 247Sports Crystal Ball.

He will attend Junior Day in College Park this weekend.

Fellow Terps target Keith Simms, an in-state linebacker, believes Haskins could lead the way toward a big-time class at Maryland.

"Dwayne is definitely trying to get everyone to go to one school, and he's been advocating Maryland a lot, especially as of late," Simms told Marco Knudsen of SB Nation last month.

His travel schedule could shake things up immensely as spring approaches, but for now, things seem to be setting up nicely for Maryland and Rutgers. In advance of his Junior Day visit, we'll give a slight edge to the Terps.

Expect plenty of developments in this recruitment as Haskins makes his final push toward a pledge.

Today's top contenders could quickly fade as he further investigates alternative opportunities on the recruiting trail.

LINK

Seems like we are going to have to get a qb from out of the blue again. Looks like Haskins will stay close to home, Pass will follow his brother to Louisville, I think Guarantano is leaning Rutgers/tOSU.

We've come to expect the unexpected in college football recruiting, which is part of the allure as we follow along from the start of a cycle all the way through national signing day.

It's ultimately a cluster of well-paid coaches delivering sales pitches to undecided teenagers who also have friends, family and fans in their ear.

Expectations are in place for every collegiate recruiting department in America, and they are waiting to be exceeded or unfulfilled next February.

As we step forward with the class of 2016, here's are 15 predictions that might go against public consensus.

Florida playmaker Nate Craig-Myers may be the face of Auburn's 2016 recruiting class, but will that last long?

The nation's No. 1 receiver committed to the Tigers last summer, shortly after expressing sentiments to play college football beyond the Sunshine State.

"You want to go out and view different parts of the world, and down in Florida I have a lot of friends and family," he told Miles Joseph of SBNation in May 2014. "I'm trying to get away from any potential distractions. I want to be focused and keep my head on right."

Craig-Myers' outlook has changed in recent months, opening the door for other options near home and far away from SEC territory.

“It's probably at 70 percent (committed) right now,” he told Josh Newberg of 247Sports in January. “Auburn, USC, Florida State and Ohio State are probably my top four.”

He is set to visit the Seminoles in late February. No one should be shocked if Seminoles head coach Jimbo Fisher eventually flips the 5-star target or new Florida head coach Jim McElwain manages to help the Gators make up ground.

We're pursuing him, so I put it here anyway even though he's committed to Auburn.

Texas Will Make a Push for Nation's No. 1 Overall Recruit

The Longhorns made Texas A&M fans nervous during a frenzied final stretch toward signing day 2015. Texas hosted 5-star Aggies quarterback commit Kyler Murray in late January, and he seemed ready to reconsider his allegiance before ultimately sticking with his initial pledge.

Expect Charlie Strong to make similar efforts in the recruitment of Murray's high school teammate.

Offensive tackle Gregory Little—a freakish athlete at 6'5", 282 pounds—is the point of emphasis for Texas this time around. He spent the past two seasons protecting Murray at Allen High School en route to state championships.

Little, the top overall recruit in composite rankings, is slated to follow his quarterback to College Station. He committed to Texas A&M shortly after his sophomore year, though interest elsewhere continues to mount.

Alabama, Ohio State and UCLA have extended scholarships in 2015, but each is faced with the task of prying him away from Kevin Sumlin. It's difficult to imagine many teams having much success in that regard, but Strong must continue attempts to track down his state's crown-jewel prospect.

Hope we can sell him on the idea of playing RT for one year and then taking over for Cam Rob.

Lyndell Wilson and Marlon Davidson Will Become a 10-Star Tandem

It's rare to find two 5-star prospects who hail from the same town, but a pair on the same team?

Practically unheard of.

Linebacker Lyndell "Mack" Wilson and defensive end Marlon Davidson do damage together at Carver High School in Montgomery, Alabama. Some big decisions still separate them from potentially playing together in college, but it's a legimiate possibility.

The duo combined for 143 tackles and 13.5 sacks last season and have intentions of teaming up beyond 2015. They told Ethan Bernal of the Montgomery Advertiser in December that they will "more than likely" play together in college.

Alabama and Auburn are the favorites to make a "package deal" happen, though Wilson named Oregon his overall leader in late January.

Alabama's Recruiting Dynasty Will Come to an End

If I asked you to place a $1,000 bet right now regarding which team finishes atop 2016 recruiting rankings and offered choices of "Alabama" or "all the rest," the decision should make you sweat a little bit.

As insane as it sounds, the Crimson Tide haven't failed to secure the nation's No. 1 recruiting class since prospects in this recruiting cycle were in sixth grade. Head coach Nick Saban has assembled five consecutive top-ranked recruiting hauls, routinely reloading a ridiculously deep roster.

So why doubt he'll make it a half-dozen years of duplicated success?

Well, for one, the luster of Alabama's last national title is beginning to slightly fade. High school juniors are more familiar with the team's dramatic 2013 Iron Bowl defeat and disheartening playoff debut, though you'll be hard-pressed to find a more respected coach than Saban among recruits.

The Tide are off to a modest start in this cycle, holding three commitments in a class that ranks 18th overall in national rankings. Unless Saban bolts on Alabama for an unforeseen opportunity, the program will finish somewhere far closer to the top of that list.

However, impressive early 2016 recruiting efforts from programs with more recent championship success—Florida State and Ohio State—lead us to believe this is the year Tuscaloosa is forced to settle for something less than No. 1 on national signing day.

Still, betting against Saban never seems like the safe choice.

2016 Recruits Who Are Better Than Their 2015 Counterparts
By Tyler Donohue , National Recruiting Analyst Feb 20, 2015

2015 Counterpart: Martez Ivey (signed with Florida)

Recruitment Status: Committed to Texas A&M

Greg Little is set to follow former high school teammate and 5-star quarterback Kyler Murray to College Station next year. He pledged to the Aggies last June and remains a cornerstone of the Texas A&M class despite recent offers from Alabama, Ohio State and UCLA.

Why We Give Him the Edge

Life would be a lot easier for quarterbacks if you could always keep blockers like Little and Ivey as bookends up front. Unfortunately for passers across the country, their talent is a rarity.

You can make a strong case that Ivey was the top overall player in the 2015 class, but much of that sentiment is due to development after his junior season. Little, a two-year starter at tackle who stands 6'5", 282 pounds, is already more physically imposing than Ivey and seems a stride ahead of where his counterpart was at this time last year.

B/R national recruiting analyst Damon Sayles detailed his approach for our CFB Future 100 series.

There are very few flaws with Little's game. He's a big, strong offensive tackle who moves well laterally and loves to record pancake blocks. It's rare to see Little overpowered by a defensive lineman. Part of that is because of his technique and poise on the line. On the field, Little is mature beyond his age—and he's only going to get better.

2015 Counterpart: Damien Harris (signed with Alabama)

Recruitment Status: Committed to Ohio State

Kareem Walker collected offers from Michigan, Notre Dame, Penn State, Wisconsin and Alabama as an underclassman, giving him plenty of early options. He pledged to Ohio State during the Buckeyes' national championship victory over Oregon.

Why We Give Him the Edge

The 2016 running back class looks to carry more clout than the 2015 crop of rushers, and that's reflected atop a deep list of impressive playmakers. Walker warranted a score of 96/100 during junior season film study, while Harris graded out at 93/100 as a senior.

Both running backs excel when it comes to downfield vision, but Walker is slightly shiftier at a larger size (6'1", 210 pounds). Fluid hips and elite acceleration allow him to exploit seams in the defense while working toward daylight.

Walker rushed for 2,771 yards and 38 touchdowns during the past two seasons. His blend of violence, vision and finesse set him apart from the pack.

I included this one because it compares Walker to Harris. Damien Harris wasn't able to prove himself as much in his senior season due to injury.

Bleacher Report Score: 89/100

Considering: Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Georgia and South Carolina

Antwuan Jackson is part of a stacked group of defensive tackles in the 2016 class who hail from the state of Georgia. According to MaxPreps, Jackson tallied 41 tackles as a junior, including 15 for loss, and five sacks.

Michigan State, Notre Dame, Oregon and Wisconsin are a few of the teams outside of the SEC and the ACC programs that have already made offers to Jackson.

Bleacher Report Analysis

Jackson flashes great power at the point of attack. He uses his hands well to get off of blocks and penetrate into the backfield. He also has a quick first step he can use to shoot gaps at times.

Jackson can play some snaps at defensive end, which is a bonus; however, he needs to work on being more consistent with his pad level and taking the next step in becoming a more dominant force up-front.

Rashard Lawrence's most recent two offers came from Auburn and Florida State. His last visit was to Alabama in November for the Tide's win over Mississippi State. Lawrence rates as the fifth-best prospect from the state of Louisiana in the 2016 class.

Bleacher Report Analysis

Lawrence has great agility for a 300-pounder. He shows good instincts in diagnosing plays, and he can beat linemen with power or quickness. Plus, he's a sound tackler when he gets his hands on the ball-carrier. He's the type of player who can command double-teams at the next level if he keeps improving.

Getting some more Louisiana prospects will help ensure that we maintain that realty in the minds of LSU fans. Monroe is practically annexed to Alabama anyway.

Bleacher Report Score: 94/100

Considering: Alabama, Baylor, LSU, Oklahoma and TCU

Ed Oliver is the younger brother of current University of Houston offensive lineman Marcus Oliver. The younger Oliver has become one of the Lone Star State's top 2016 prospects after recording 84 tackles and seven sacks last year as a junior.

His teammate at Westfield, 4-star receiver and current Texas A&M commitment Tyrie Cleveland, is one of the top pass-catchers in the 2016 class.

According to Sonny Shipp of Geaux247, LSU is the team to beat for the nation's sixth-best defensive tackle prospect.

Bleacher Report Analysis

Oliver's quickness jumps out on film. He's a polished athlete who moves very well for his size. His lethal first step helps him shoot gaps, but he also has the strength to bull rush and use his power to create havoc in the backfield.

He does a good job of stripping ball-carriers as well. Because of how athletic he is, he's still only scratching the surface of the player he's capable of becoming.

Derrick Brown's most recent visit came late last month when he attended a junior day at Alabama, as detailed by Shane Youngblood of BamaOnLine. As noted by Jake Rowe of Dawgs247, Brown turned in a dominant junior season by registering 101 tackles, including 26 for loss, with 17.5 sacks.

He's also accumulated more than 20 offers, per Rowe.

Bleacher Report Analysis

The first thing that stands out with Brown is how well he moves for being 300-plus pounds. He can make plays sideline to sideline and has great power at the point of attack.

Brown is also quick off the ball, which makes him almost unfair to block at the prep level. He packs a punch when he tackles as well. Overall, Brown appears to be one of the most dominant players in the 2016 class, regardless of position.

Rashan Gary has offers from a number of top programs, and he visited Rutgers, Maryland and Penn State for games last season. According to Evan G. Watkins of VTScoop, Gary's most recent trip was to Virginia Tech for a junior day earlier this month.

Bleacher Report Analysis

Gary is a freakish athlete who has the ability to play defensive end. He does an excellent job of keeping a low pad level off the snap and then using his hands and power to knock his opponent off balance.

Gary has the speed and the quickness to chase plays laterally, and his ability as a pass-rusher from the interior is what separates him in a loaded class at defensive tackle. He is a powerful force whose game translates favorably to the next level.
