QB ACCURACY
Two five-star SEC commits were part of the six-player field, which included eight throws at moving targets and one long-distance toss. Blake Barnett, a Southern California native committed to Alabama, took home the competition, earning a small trophy for his efforts. The accuracy challenge involved hitting moving targets at three different depths: 10 yards (three throws), 20 yards (two throws) and 30 yards (two throws).

Barnett, who has a long throwing motion but throws a beautiful spiral, hit all his short throws and missed one each on the two longer distances. His deep throw had good arc and a tight spiral.

He beat out Kyler Murray, a five-star Texas A&M recruit. Where Barnett’s motion was elongated, Murray’s was very compact and he showed some good footwork and quickness getting the ball out as he moved through the targets. He was one of the only quarterbacks to hit both of the 30-yard throws, and his short throws were right on the money as well. He did miss his two 20-yard throws.

Also in the competition were two Florida State commits, DeAndre Johnson and DeAndre Francois, Baylor commit Jarrett Stidham (who was targeted by both Alabama and Auburn) and Brandon Winbush, committed to Notre Dame.

Maybe if we get 10 5 star cornerbacks we will find one that can cover a deep ball.

I've asked a few times, and my shitty googling skills can't fine the answer.

Who all is announcing at the UA game? 6 people, right?

I haven't seen it posted anywhere either.

The AL.com writers and JC Shurburtt are still sticking with TAMU for Sheffield and Alabama for Payne.

Announcements

Tyron Johnson: This five-star prospect will be choosing between LSU, Oklahoma State or Texas Tech during the game. Johnson is a Louisiana kid that played his high school career at Warren Easton in New Orleans. That factor has given LSU a big opportunity to showcase what they have to offer to the 6'1, 191-pounder. The nations 21st overall player has seen the Tigers campus numerous times and has not made an official to this point. He did take an official visit to Texas Tech back in September and roomed with '15 DT Breiden Fehoko this week, who is currently committed to the Red Raiders. No matter what decision is made, Johnson will still be recruited hard by the two programs that come up short. According to his 247Sports profile, he is expected to take official visits to Oklahoma State and LSU later this month.

Prediction: LSU

Ronald Jones II: Speaking of Oklahoma State, this four-star prospect was once committed to Cowboys. However, after taking an official visit to both Notre Dame and USC, Jones decided to back off of his pledge and today, he will choose his collegiate program. One of those two programs will be bringing in the 9th best high school senior at the running back position and the 82nd overall player in the country.

Prediction: USC

Daron Payne: The Birmingham native will definitely stay in-state at the next level, but will it be at Alabama or Auburn? Payne is currently graded as the sixth best overall defensive tackle in the class and the No. 2 overall player in the state of Alabama. The five-star prospect has checked out both programs campuses over a handful of times. But will it be Gus Malzahn or Nick Saban who receive the good news later today?

Prediction: Alabama

Tim Settle: It all comes down to Louisville, USC and Virginia Tech for the four-star prospect from Stonewall Jackson (VA). Settle, who is the 11th best player at his position, has already made all five of his official visits. Three of them went to the aforementioned schools and the other two went to Oklahoma State and Washington State. However, Settle trimmed those two programs from his lists. The 6'3, 300-pounder will decide if he wants to stay at home with the Hokies or go elsewhere.

Prediction: Virginia Tech

Kendall Sheffield: This announcement will be a rather interesting one. It was reported that the 18th overall player in the class has known his decision for months, just a few days ago. That alone would make me believe that the Aggies will get good news this evening. However, Mike Farrell over at Rivals.com tweeted that there was buzz earlier this week about Sheffield landing at Alabama. One thing we do know is that it'll be the Crimson Tide or the in-state school, Texas A&M. Definitely not confident here but I'll stick with my gut for this one..

Prediction: Texas A&M

Anthony Wheeler: It'll very likely be the Big 12 for this standout linebacker from Dallas. The hats on the table should be Baylor, LSU, Oklahoma and Texas. The last two schools are the more likely destinations for Wheeler. The four-star hybrid outside linebacker/defensive end looks to be a piece in future Red River rivalry games but will he be in Crimson and Cream or Burnt Orange and White?

Prediction: Oklahoma

Here are the ones for the army all american game in case you are wondering. I don't think we will get any commitments from that game, but it will be interesting to see where guys like Kyle Phillips and Lawrence Cager end up.

quote:

Gardena (Calif.) Junipero Serra wide receiver Stanley Norman -- The nation's No. 8 athlete will end his recruitment on Saturday in what looks to be a two-way battle between UCLA and Arizona State, though the Sun Devils have recently been trending his Crystal Ball.

Towson (Mary.) Calvert Hall wide receiver Lawrence Cager -- The big pass-catcher has already made his decision and the pick could be a bit of a surprise, as 247Sports national analyst Steve Wiltfong put in a prediction for Miami in Cager's Crystal Ball after check-in day.

Fairburn (Ga.) Hughes defensive end D'Andre Walker -- Down to Georgia and Tennessee, the lanky pass-rusher has taken numerous visits to Tennessee and has also tripped to Athens several times during the last year. The Bulldogs are the major favorite over the Volunteers right now.

Nashville (Tenn.) Hillsboro defensive end Kyle Phillips -- Numerous visits to Knoxville helped Tennessee seemingly take a big lead with the strong side prospect, but LSU has been trending recently and Ole Miss could be a dark horse in his recruitment as it winds down.

St. Catherine's (Ont.) Canada Prep Football Academy defensive tackle Neville Gallimore -- Though Gallimore's participation in the game is in doubt because of an injury, he will still announce at the game. He's down to five finalists, but Oklahoma and Ohio State seem to have the best shot, with some momentum for the Sooners after a mid-December visit to Norman.

Encino (Calif.) Crespi Carmelite safety Marvell Tell -- A recent official visit to Texas A&M may have given the Aggies an outside shot at the nation's No. 3 safety since he was willing to go out of state during the early part of his recruitment. However, the better bet right now is that he stays in-state and decides between USC and UCLA, with the Trojans the most likely destination.

Miami (Fla.) Westminster athlete Tim Irvin -- A two-way star in high school who is expected to play safety at the next level, Irvin is down to Florida, Miami, Texas and West Virginia. Miami has long been considered the team to beat, but there has been momentum for Texas after the commitment of his close friend Cecil Cherry, a linebacker from the Sunshine State.

From the Aubs:

quote:

From Keith FWIW.

Payne
-spent most of his free time with the Tiger commits this week
-commits say he’s talking up Auburn
-yelled out a big “War Eagle!” during practice
-A few commits actually feel good about Payne to AU
-AU Sorces don’t know who DP will pick or are being very quiet
-AUC still believes Alabama is the pick
-commits are not just being overly optimistic on Payne as they don't feel nearly as confident about Holland

That would be the cherry on top of the shite sundae.

Reminds me of Travis Rudolph last year when all of a sudden he was talking up Bama and chose Florida State.

We could strike out on both. That would suck big time.

At the same time, who could blame Sheffield for going elsewhere? We have Hump and Brown sitting on the bench while Eddie gets burned over and over again. I think Eddie will get it together next year, but what harm would there have been in benching Eddie until he is ready for Tony or Marlon? Would either of them really have done any worse?

Marlon had to RS. He needs the weight room and to learn. Brown was an EE and is physically ready. Just didn't gain Sabans trust. Both of them won't lay down for Cyrus or EJ next season. Would not be surprised at all to see EJ move to safety and brown and Humphrey start in 5 and 6 DB situations. Cyrus playing star. Lots of possibilities.
