Interesting. Never thought of that. I do like big corners, though he'll probably stick as a rangy FS.

Another Alabama commit, tight end Hale Hentges showed off major skill at tight end- receiving, blocking and athletically- and could be the best tight end prospect in this class. He’s legitimately 6-foot-5, 230 pounds and can move.

Another guy who no one seems to talk about anymore. I like our TE group next year with OJ, TFS, and Hentges.

I would be happy to finish with Harris, Sheffield, Payne, one of Chidi, Richmond, or Prince, and either Hill or Godwin and call it a day.

Me too.

I don't know, we need a rangy free safety in the HCD mold more than we need corners. Thompson is the best coverage safety in the class and doesn't really have great top end speed and acceleration judging from his film. I'm sure he could play corner, but with Humphrey, Fitzpatrick, and Custis in the freshman class I'm not sure he'll need to. We've got several SS type players on board with Anderson and Clark and Hootie with the skill set to play either. I say let Thompson and Ronnie Harrison learn centerfield from day one

Lester Cotton on recruiting Daron Payne:

quote:

"All week I am gong to be saying Roll Tide! Roll Tide! to him," Cotton said. "I am going to text him saying Roll Tide! I am going to send him a message saying good morning, Roll Tide! I will tell him good afternoon, Roll Tide! I am going to be saying Roll Tide to him all week."

5. DB Minkah Fitzpatrick
Jersey City (N.J.) St. Peter's Prep

Fitzpatrick was dominant during the first practice. The Alabama commit was physical and blanketed receivers that were running routes in front of him. Fitzpatrick's length really posed problems, as he was able to break up a couple of passes. He made a nice interception when covering an intermediate route.

10. DT Daron Payne
Birmingham (Ala.) Shades Valley

The five-star defensive tackle is set to decide between Auburn and Alabama this week and with the way he played on Monday, he looks like he can step in and play from Day 1 at either school. Payne loves to use a swim move and going against some linemen not used to his repertoire, he made them look silly as he blew into the backfield. Payne has shed some bad weight over the past six months and is hitting his stride at just the right time.

3. OT Drew Richmond
Memphis (Tenn.) University School

Richmond played left tackle all day and during one-on-one drills, he dominated almost the entire way. The only time Richmond didn't control the defensive lineman is when he and Cowart split reps. Other than that, the massive Ole Miss commit used his strength to control everybody. Nobody in this class can overpower Richmond, especially once he gets his hands on a lineman. The five-star weighs about 320 pounds, but mixes being nimble and strong so well.

4. ATH Terry Godwin
Hogansville (Ga.) Callaway

Godwin with any space is a scary thought for any defensive back because he's so fast. In the open field, the five-star Georgia commit can run by anybody. Rated as the top athlete in the class, Godwin has a lot of shake to his game and he's simply faster than everybody else, so cornerbacks are always chasing him around. Get him the ball on the outside, let him run down the field and chuck it deep. Godwin is a playmaker who can do everything if he has any space.

6. RB Damien Harris
Berea (Ky.) Madison Southern

What stands out most about Harris, the top-rated running back in the nation, is that he quickly makes decisions and then explodes through the hole. The five-star prospect doesn't dance around too much in the backfield and doesn't waste time. If there is any room open for him to run, Harris hits it hard and that means he's guaranteed to pick up positive yardage. He's decisive, hard to tackle and has great burst and even more explosive than we thought. Alabama, Kentucky and Ohio State are top three.

8. WR Calvin Ridley
Coconut Creek (Fla.) Monarch

Ridley is a fantastic route runner who is so sharp and can set up almost any cornerback in the country. The nation's No. 1 receiver, who is committed to Alabama, has such a well-balanced game and he can do everything well. Great hands. Great route runner. Great athlete. The five-star reminds us of a skinnier Amari Cooper, and even though that's a lofty comparison, Ridley has it all to be special in Tuscaloosa.
