Shawn Burgess Becker scouting report:
LINK
quote:
Shawn Burgess-Becker is a highly touted athlete in the class of 2015. He can play wide receiver and safety.
Burgess-Becker, out of Monarch High School in Pompano Beach, Fla., stands 6'1 and weighs in at 185 pounds. As of April, he's rated as a consensus four-star prospect by 247Sports, Rivals, Scout and ESPN, and depending on the site, he's listed as either an athlete or a safety. Rivals ranks him as the sixth-best athlete in the class, and 247 has him 14th at that position. ESPN ranks him No. 5 among safeties, and Scout says he's the sixth-best safety.
The 247Sports Composite, a compilation of the four major recruiting services, ranks Burgess-Becker as the 77th-best player in the country, seventh-best athlete and 16th-best prospect from the state of Florida.
He's garnering interest from programs around the country and holds 24 scholarship offers from such top programs as Alabama, Florida, Florida State, LSU, Miami, Ohio State, Auburn, Georgia, Notre Dame and Wisconsin.
Burgess-Becker is a very talented athlete, capable of playing receiver or defensive back at the major college level.
Burgess-Becker has solid size and should eventually play at 200 or more pounds. He displays very good quickness and first-step acceleration. Burgess has good, but not track-star type speed. It's more than adequate for playing safety.
Burgess-Becker also shows good change of direction, which will help him in coverage. He is somewhat raw in his technique and will benefit from not playing both ways once he gets to college. I do like that Burgess-Becker seems to instinctively get good jumps on the ball in the pass defense game.
The hands on Burgess-Becker are good, and he does a good job catching over the shoulder at times. He also has good moves after the catch.
I do think Burgess-Becker's ceiling is higher at safety than at receiver, because he is only 6'1 and is not a burner with tremendous top-end speed. His highlights do not show much of him coming down against the run, but if he can consistently show the hitting ability against the run that he does against the receivers, he'll be fine.
I think Burgess-Becker is appropriately rated as a four-star and a top-150 or top-200 player nationally. He profiles as a potential multi-year starter at the highest levels of college football

This pisses me off so much. Wish that he would commit to the barn so we would pursue some real tackle prospects.

Leo Lewis scouting report:
quote:
Height: 6’3?
Weight: 225
Athletic ability/measurables
Lewis has enough speed to go sideline to sideline or pressure off the edge. He’s a physically strong kid with a frame to put on more weight and be a stout inside linebacker.
Skills/technique
Lewis plays with a nastiness that is a joy to watch. If you aren’t playing with your head on a swivel, he’s going to put you on your arse. He’s not a grabber as a tackler. He wants to drive you backwards and hit through you and plays with a short yardage mentality on every play. Does an outstanding job of taking on the iso and also flashes the potential to be a devastating blitzer.
He is a little undisciplined in his drops in pass coverage, but it’s something that he will surely improve on in his senior year and going forward. Once he refines that part of his game he should be very strong in coverage and an intimidating presence for any crossing wide receivers.
Scheme fit
Although he sometimes lined up outside as a pass rusher, I think his future is an inside linebacker who can play either the Mike or the Will in any defense.
Potential
Lewis should be a very good special teams player immediately and if he can pick everything up mentally is a good enough athlete to contribute on defense very early. He should develop into a multi-year starter and rock in the middle of a team’s defense.

Nick Saban could sell a ketchup popsicle to a woman in white gloves.
What he’s selling at Alabama is a lot better product than ketchup popsicles, but it can’t be denied that there is no better salesman in college football right now than Saban. There might not be a better salesman in the history of college football. The recruiting roll the Tide have been on the last five years is unprecedented.
It kept going this weekend at Alabama’s spring game and some would say it reached new heights for a one day haul with top wide receiver Calvin Ridley, big time inside linebacker Leo Lewis, versatile athlete Shawn Burgess-Becker, and “This is getting ridiculously unfair for everyone else” cornerback Minkah Fitzpatrick all committing to the Tide.
If this was any other program in college football, this would be a program defining day in terms of the future. For Saban and Alabama, it’s the norm.
There’s no doubt about it, when you win and win consistently, that is a huge selling point for prospects to choose your school. But if it was as simple as “win and they will come” then why would Saban have the largest in-house recruiting staff of any program in the country?
Alabama wins in recruiting the same way they win on the field. They work harder and smarter than just about every other program at it. It definitely helps that they can oversign and bring in more players than at some other schools, but that doesn’t explain the consistency in the top players they continue to lure to Tuscaloosa. They grind harder than anyone else. They sell better than anyone else. They are better than everyone else when it comes to recruiting.
You may hate Nick Saban and despise his success, but you can’t deny what he has built at Alabama. They are a sophisticated recruiting machine set out to destroy competing teams chances of obtaining commitments from the best prospects in the nation year after year. They already have nine(!) commitments currently ranked in the Rivals top 100 recruits from this class and will be finalists for several others on the list.
The Tide keep rolling in recruiting and there is nothing anyone can do to stop it until Saban decides to walk away.

Darrell Williams scouting report
quote:
The Sam linebacker in a 4-3 defense used to be known for being a physical player that could handle playing over the tight end. The Sam is quite a bit different in this era of spread offenses. Some teams don’t even use a tight end in their offense or they are split out wide off the line. That means defenses have had to adjust and rather than having a hulking presence that can stack and shed at the line of scrimmage, there is a greater need for linebackers that can play in space and cover running backs, tight ends, and even the occasional receiver.
Darrell Williams is that new breed of Sam linebacker that many defenses are looking for. The Hoover High linebacker has a rare skill set that teams are searching for to combat spread offenses.
Height: 6’3?
Weight: 227
Athletic ability/measurables
Williams is a really smooth athlete who can flip his hips and run well. He’s got the kind of length that will really add to his coverage abilities as well. He’s got good, but not elite, speed.
He doesn’t have to put on much weight to play at the next level, but will have to re-shape his body once he’s in a college strength program.
Skills/technique
Hoover uses Williams in a lot of ways that play to his strengths, which primarily take him outside of the box. He’ll walk out over a slot receiver and drop into coverage. Does a nice job of getting a jam and staying on the hip of receivers. He’s got outstanding ball skills and has soft hands to intercept the ball. These kinds of skills really make him standout in a camp setting, where he has been very good competing against smaller and quicker players.
Shows good instincts and often jumps plays before they get a chance to develop. He can play physical when lined up against smaller players versus the run, but I didn’t get a chance to see him handle shedding lineman. Then again, with his position he won’t have to encounter them that often.
Williams can fill and tackles well. He’s not an explosive blitzer off the edge, but shows nice timing and can beat running backs when they have to pick him up.
Scheme fit
Williams is that new age Sam that can be mostly linebacker and part safety, which makes him a valuable piece that can fit into most defenses.
Potential
Williams strengths are most linebackers’ weaknesses coming in college. That means he may have an opportunity to get early playing time as a situational player before he develops into a full-time starter. I don’t think he has the explosive athletic potential to be an All-American type of player, but he should end up being a high level starter for multiple years.

Where are you finding these scouting reports? I've never seen a 247 analyst say a kid will put someone on their arse.

I guess it depends on how Williams performs in camp. I don't imagine he would have a no stipulations committable offer at this point. Otherwise we may not have any room by August

Williams doesn't exactly give my donkey a boner if you know what I mean. I'd rather land Amonte Caban.

Tim Settle scouting report:
quote:
It’s starting to get a little ridiculous how many elite defensive tackles there are in the 2015 recruiting class. Tim Settle is another massive young man with an elite athletic skill set for the position. The Stonewall Jackson High defensive tackle is as talented as any defender in this recruiting class.
Height: 6’3?
Weight: 308
Athletic ability/measurables
Settle pitches and plays outfield for his high school baseball team. How many other 300 pounders can make that claim?
Skills/technique
Like so many other physically dominant players, Settle can sometimes play too high and still dominate his man physically at the line of scrimmage. When he does play with proper leverage, he absolutely destroys backfields. He’s extremely quick off the ball and has tremendous power.
Has a nice little arm-over move that he uses to disengage blockers. He made a couple of terrific plays where he noticed the guard who was assigned to block him was heavy on his fingers and had his weight going forward. Settle quick swimmed by him to make a play in the backfield. The guard fell flat on his face.
Needs to improve his pass rush moves and when he does, watch out.
Scheme fit
Settle is too good of an athlete to not have him play as a three technique in a 4-3 defense. If his pass rushing doesn’t improve to what I think it could be, then he can play a one technique and eat up double teams.![]()
Potential
Settle has the size and talent to contribute immediately as a freshman. As long as his work ethic comes close to his talent, he’s got the chance to be a multi-year starter and a possible All-American candidate.
