Do y'all think that was a good idea at this point? I mean, we did the same with CAG, giving him a bump at the first sign of a little success. That came back to bite us in the arse. I don't want to repeat the same mistakes. Coach Avery looks like he's doing a great job and I'm happy with him but the truth is, we haven't won shite yet. Did we jump the gun?

No, we didn't jump the gun at all. You're saying it came back on us when we gave Grant a raise after the first sign of just a little success, and you're right about that. BUT with Avery, he's kept us very close to a 20 win season both years (with hardly any talent left behind from Grant) along with bringing in the best class in Bama history, causing more excitement than ever before, he knows how to promote the program, he's already working with Greg Byrne on either a new arena or a huge improvement to Coleman, hes already changed the student seating, he's having open practices for the fans, he's also got a ton of high level recruits considering us every year, and he's built a nice staff. That's way more than Grant did. All Grant did was severely underachieve with the first group of good players he inherited/recruited. He had an easy schedule and still barely won 20 games a year.

Did it? I don't know if we didn't fire Grant sooner because of his buyout or because the AD actually believed he'd turn it around.

Possibly, but it was just a two year extension.

If given the opportunity, attend an event where Coach Avery is speaking.
I'm a believer that he can sell the Bama program without really having to mention the UofA. Jmo.
Kids respond to him. Kids that normally in the past wouldn't give Bama the time of day.
I know one kid that he's affected that if the kids "dream school" were to offer, Bama would still be hard to turn down because of Avery.

Yeah I never understood why people thought he would struggle to recruit. He's got a great personality with a NBA background. The man is built to be a great recruiter.

he is crootin at a much higher level that anyone in recent memory at Bama. It is the Jimmys and Joes who will help bring Bama BB back to the dance on a regular basis.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of CAJ and he appears to be doing a fantastic job. I'm just wary of early extensions as they are fraught with danger. I appreciate y'all's feedback and I'm still optimistic. But I look around our league and I see prime examples of the dangers associated with quick extensions in football. Arkansas is stuck with Fat Bert and A&M with Sumlin because they didn't want the financial hit it would cost to fire them. Can't wait for the Canadian games.

I agree with you on what you're saying. I would've saved contract extension talks for after this year, but I guess it was written into his initial contract that everything would be revisited after year 2.

Never understood how LSU keeps attracting such great BB talent,no matter who's the Coach. They have had more talent go through there than any school,in the SEC,except Kentucky of course and they have nothing to show for it.
