BOLs Mr. Gold watched Kalif Young in the Canadian All Star game and here's his thoughts:
The game was played last night and you can watch it on ESPN3.
I was impressed with Young. He had 20 pts 9 rebs, and a couple of steals... The coach put him on the block only a few times,, but you see he has good awareness and footwork. He did make a left-hand hook shot over the right shoulder...He is heavy-footed, not athletic, and wide (Nick Jacobs). The biggest difference between Young and Jacobs is is that 1) Young is active 2) Young is a GREAT passer (Jamal Murray said the same when discussing Young) 3) Young is longer... I was also impressed with the way he looked to get an offensive rebound on every shot. Young did take his man off the dribble from the elbow. He missed the reverse lay-up, but you see the potential.
He will need to learn how to play defense.. and that may have to do more with his endurance. You can tell he is working on his endurance and he has a ways to go to be college ready. Once he got tired, he was barely moved for defensive rebounds. A college trainer will do wonders for him. he is something that is not on the roster,, a space eater...
He seems to be a very level head kid.. he talked about what he plans to do after basketball. if i watching him for the first time and needed a big, I would offer him.. It was an all-star but they ran plays and played defense.. He was 0 for 6 from the foul line.. He was one of the two named MVPs of the game.

Sounds like the type we need for the future. Well what I think we need a under basket type big that can lean on guys. Get him in shape and he can be a chuck davis type in the future.

Derryck Thornton?! He's a 5 star that's been a Duke one year I think. Just left bc they expected too much of him. Probably couldn't handle the pressure of playing at Duke. Bama would be a perfect fit.

For those of u that don't know, back in January, Harvey cut his list of 50 schools down and made a top 16 list. Alabama was included. Good to know he's still interested.

UA not done with the 2016 class.
- Basically covered what we already know with Harvey. Bama on him hard, no visit scheduled at this time.
- Bama hasn't been in contact with the kid from North Dakota Science
- People close to Petty do not believe he is complete lock to go to UK and likes the idea of staying home. Avery has been working his arse off to get him. He should be making his decision pretty soon.
- Christian Vital would like to make a visit, but wants to decide this month so he may not be able to fit it in. Bama is still definitely in play here.
- Troy Brown hopes to visit soon
- Guy to keep an eye out for to finish this class is Jordy Tshimanga. Bama hasn't been in contact yet, but their is belief within his camp that they would love to hear from Bama.
