is Avery to the point now that he can hand pick from a lot of kids who want to play for him.

Kinda of like NS who has more "begging" to play at Bama then we have spots for.

The key word in that statement is Grant! Avery is not Grant.

I think Avery can get interest from any player in the country almost as much as Saban. He's already shown that with interest from Ferguson, Bolden, along with a long list of others. But he's not to the point yet where they'll be 100% Bama when offered. They show serious interest and then usually go to a "basketball school". So right now, he can't really hand pick from anyone he wants and be confident they're coming here like Saban can, but he CAN get interest from just about anyone.

If we get a NCAA championship out of it, then I don't care if we look like the damn Bunny Ranch

Lol! Another key to this class will Pelphrey. He will pay huge dividends. Not only in recruiting, but player development. We hit a grand slam when we got him. He is why we got Daniel Giddens.

Yeah, it's exciting that basketball recruiting is a big topic again. The Grant yrs were boring. It was almost impossible to find any news, cause Grant was an arse and wouldn't talk to anybody. That and we weren't in on too many top recruits.

I know a lot of people from the area UAB's William Lee came from and they said when Grant came and recruited him he walked in with his arms crossed and didn't really act like he wanted Lee. Kinda just didn't even try to get him. Then, UAB gets him and he's a star. That's what really makes me mad about Grant.

Yep! I get pissed off everytime I watch Uab and William Lee play. He's exactly what we need.

Is Lee really that good haven't seen him play. Know he wanted to play on the wing.

Yes he's better than Taylor and Hall. Hall could get there eventually. But I've watched him a few times bc he played close to where I grew up. He blocks shots, can rebound and score. He's one of the main reasons UAB went to the NCAA tourney and beat Iowa State 2 years ago. He's a player Grant should've went after with everything he had considering how bad we were under him.

Yes,he can actually rebound and score with his back to the basket or hit a jump shot. I think Hall can eventually be better, but Lee was doing all of these things as a freshman. He averaged 10.7 pts, 6.6 rbs, 1.5 asst in 23 min a game.

Some of my friends from the Gadsden area that knew Isaac Haas says he pretty much said the same thing about Grant.

Now he's at Purdue. Another big basketball recruit from the state of AL that went elsewhere.

Yep. Good thing is, that's all over. We don't have to ever endure the Anthony Grant era again

Just curious, but are you new to following recruiting? There's simply no truth in that statement. I've never seen a coach have as many top 3 finishes with top 100 talent and land as few as he did. We were in on several top recruits during the Grant era, we just didn't land many of them. Grant's issue with recruiting was not finishing on the top recruits and having no plan Bs in place. His first 3 or 4 years of recruiting was pretty exciting. After that the lack of success made his selling point on Alabama being a "program on the rise" non-inspiring.

Avery will be a better recruiter than Grant (and personality-wise it's easy to see why), but there's a reason Bryant and I are hesitant to celebrate a recruiting class until we start landing the guys. We've seen a lot of disappointment.
