I agree.. I’m shocked on that one as well. He would be good on the goal line. But I like the kid from From NJ too

St. Frances Academy has been good to the Crimson Tide. The powerhouse Baltimore, Md. program has sent players like Eyabi Anoma, Shane Lee and Darrian Dalcourt to Tuscaloosa.

It's also produced five-star Tide commit Chris Braswell in the 2020 class. Four-star receiver LINK ]Traeshon Holden joined Braswell and committed to Alabama during a visit to Tuscaloosa on Saturday.

“First I would like to thank my mother for everything she has done for me," Holden said in a video released on his personal Twitter account:

"I would also like to thank my coaches, my family and my friends for helping me through this process. This has always been a dream of mine since I was a little kid. Now that that dream is becoming a reality, I would like to announce my commitment to the University of Alabama. Roll Tide!”

Holden picked up an offer from the Tide at the end of January and didn't wait long to make up his mind. The East Coast standout chose Alabama over programs like Florida, LSU and Michigan, among others.

Wide receiver is a priority position for the Tide in 2020 and that's been clear in UA's approach, as Holden is now the third pass catcher to join the class that includes Javon Baker from Georgia and Dazalin Worsham from Alabama.

At 6-foot-3, 195 pounds, Holden is rated the No. 48 wide receiver and the No. 264 overall player in the country, per the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Alabama strengthens its grip-hold on the No. 1-ranked class, per the 247Sports Composite Team Recruiting Rankings, with 12 commitments. The Tide's class currently has a score of 224.59.

Stay tuned to BamaOnLine for more on this breaking story.

Finally a bigger WR, 6'3 that looks legit. I am sure his rating will go up too. I must confess it seems like we rarely go after bigger WR's and the ones we get don't pan out.

It crossed my mind when I was putting that list together that he just might be the big WR Bama lands in this class.

Eta: I'm updating the visitors list (top of page 37) with new offers and commits. I'm also updating the 1st, 2nd & 3rd posts on page 1 -- a lot.

Maybe. We're in the thick of it for guys who are just too good to pass on, like Thaiu Jones-Bell, Rakim Jarrett and Jermaine Burton.

LINK ]Holden goes in-depth on Alabama commitment (BamaOnLine | embedded video)

quote:

Alabama added commitment No. 12 in its 2020 class on Saturday evening from four-star receiver LINK ]Traeshon Holden. The Baltimore (Md.) St. Frances product made his decision known following a visit to Tuscaloosa over the weekend.

“It feels amazing,” Holden told BOL of his decision. “I was talking to Coach Saban … well, all the coaches, I just felt like this was the place for me,” Holden said.

It’s new running backs coach Charles Huff that Holden says is his primary recruiter. Huff along with coaches like Holmon Wiggins and Sal Sunseri played a big role in landing his commitment. “I’m close with them, real close,” Holden said of his relationship with the staff.

Not only is Holden close with the staff, he has former and current teammates at Bama or committed to join the program.

The Tide landed five-star edge rusher Eyabi Anoma from St. Frances in 2018; four-star lineman Darrian Dalcourt and four-star linebacker Shane Lee in 2019; and have a commitment from five-star edge rusher Chris Braswell in 2020.

“They’re all like my big brothers, for real,” Holden said. “Basically how it was in high school, like they’re looking after me.”

Holden enjoyed his time in Tuscaloosa this weekend. “The whole environment, it’s so nice over there,” he said. “And the coaches, I like the coaches a lot.” Saban was pleased to get the four-star wideout on board early. “He was happy,” Holden said.

The need at wide receiver in the Tide’s 2020 class also played a big role in Holden’s decision. “I looked into that,” he said. “As soon as I get there, I can go right in. I’m trying to mid-year too, so that will be a good advantage.”

At 6-foot-3, 195 pounds, Holden is rated the No. 48 wide receiver and the No. 264 overall player in the country, per the 247Sports Composite Rankings

We don’t normally go after bigger receivers because Saban normally likes burners that can seperate and get wide open. Great route runners. He’s not a big fan of the 50/50 ball because he’s a secondary guy...too much a risk for a turnover in his mind by depending your guy to go up and beat the other guy.

Guys like Cooper, Jeudy and Ridley are what Saban goes after normally. There are exceptions of course...Dabo has made a living with stud receivers and 50/50 balls.

Maybe Shavers comes along down the road. Dude should be a weapon when we get near the goal line.
