LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier spoke with reporters on Tuesday and was asked about earning the No. 18 jersey this season.

Nussmeier discussed the honor and responsibility of being No. 18 and said he looked up to former No. 18 Damone Clark, who wore it during Nussmeier's freshman season.

"It means everything," Nussmeier said. "To have that responsibility, that honor, it’s amazing."

"I’m very grateful and very thankful that I was selected to wear that number, and I hope to live up to the standard."

"I can think about when I was a freshman, one of the first guys I saw wear No. 18 was Damone Clark."

"That’s what I think of when I think of No. 18, is how he interacted. He took me under his wing a little bit as a freshman. I played a decent amount early on there, and he was one of the guys who always lifted me up, always gave me words of encouragement, and kept me going."

"I feel like whenever I wanna be No. 18 I feel like almost I kinda wanna be like him a little bit. It’s an honor, I’m super grateful."
