New Florida coach Jon Sumrall joined the Triple Option podcast with Urban Meyer recently and gave his stance on scheduling and the future of in-state rivalries.
Sumrall made it clear: if there is one rivalry he wants to keep, it's the Gators vs. Florida State.
Next season's matchup between both schools will mark the 70th game in the series.

quote:Florida and Florida State first met on the gridiron in 1958 and have played every year since, except in 2020 during the COVID-19 season. The Gators lead the all-time series 39–28–2.
“I think Florida State stays forever,” Sumrall said. “That one, I don’t know that it moves regards to how many games we go to. I do think if your ultimate goal is to play in the CFP, it’s smart for you to evaluate what’s worked in the past. So I do think some uniformity in the non conference would be helpful.”
