ESPN insider Peter Thamel was on the College GameDay Podcast this week and discussed the Florida job that might come available at the end of the season, with the Gators likely parting ways with Billy Napier.

During the conversation, Thamel mentioned the North Carolina job that is expected to open up as well and said he thinks it might be more desirable than the Florida job. Per On3:

“People want that Carolina job, by the way,” Thamel interjected. “I almost think more coaches want the Carolina job than the Florida job.”

“Look at what your schedule is at Florida compared to what your schedule is going to be at Carolina,” said Thamel. “Who do you got to beat?”

“I think North Carolina is the ninth-most populated state in the country, something like that. There’s good players there,” said Thamel. “Mack did a good job building the infrastructure recruiting-wise in the state.”

“Oh boy, does my phone ring about North Carolina,” Thamel said.

If a coach chooses North Carolina over Florida because of the weaker schedule, I think that shows a lack of resilience. They wouldn’t have lasted long in the SEC!

I mean; you can win 8 games a year at UNC for 20 years and they'll name the stadium after you. You win 8 games a year at Florida and after 3 years you out.

UNC has forever been The Next Great Job.

There isn't a fanbase there.
