The family of Auburn running back Brian Battie provided a recent update on their son, who is recovering after being shot in the head during a shooting in Sarasota, Florida on May 18. Per AL.com:

“I am overjoyed to share an inspiring moment in Brian’s journey. After facing the immense challenge of rehabbing after his type of brain injury, without knowing if Brian would walk again, he has achieved something incredible, Brian took his first steps with a cane,” Battie’s family wrote in the update.

Court documents filed against the suspected shooter, Darryl Brookins Jr., who was arrested four days after the shooting that injured Battie and killed his older brother Tommie Battie IV, initially stated Brian Battie was facing a possible prognosis of “permanent paralysis.”

“Witnessing this milestone filled our heart with indescribable happiness and pride. It’s a testament to Brian’s unwavering strength, resilience, and determination,” the Battie family wrote in the update. “This road hasn’t been easy, but with each small step forward, he has shown us the power of perseverance and courage.”
