Good retort!

I see so many disney apologist in here, you know most of these thugs got a fat Pell grant as well for only one reason on their application.

You honestly think these geniuses would be honest enough to file a tax return if they were getting paid. We would then be looking at felony tax evasion every offseason.

The smart ones would, because they would most likely be getting enough credits for a refund. However, you can't pay these guys enough becuase Bentleys, Fur Coats, and Gold teeth are NFL money.

Has anyone brought up that we are not using direct deposit for these scholly funds? Seems to me that should be first order of business. Set the kid up with a free student checking account the day he enrolls and link those funds to his account. No more paper checks.

Not defending this dumbassery, but direct deposit for this kind of thing seems like common sense to me.

Full scholarship players take their Pell Grant and buy bling and gold grills and cars and dope.

Yea, that would be good for many reasons. I don't think the admin thought about it as it applys to fraud though. They probably assume that their student athletes couldn't possibly be that stupid.

depends on what the check was for exactly, sometimes it has to be a physical, but one would assume the NCAA would even prefer DD, since it more direct and traceable

Damn what a nice hypocritical post, continue your troll.

What makes you think that when there's some breaking news about UGA....that UGA fans want to come to the UGA board and read twenty posts from YOU on the subject?????

Have some fricking manners and stop hyper-ventilating all over our board, please.

Kid is really starting to grind my gears. Someone needs to let him know he hasn't made it yet, because he got a big head when he was basically given the starting job last year

Agreed.

Let me see, about $1,200 per month stipend,5K per year Pell Grant,"emergency funds" and clothing allowance.I think just about every UGA college student could "get by" on this amount.

I'm tired of seeing this ignorant BS. You don't know WTF you're talking about.

These kids get a whopping $71 per week in spending stipend. They can get up to $600 per month if they live off campus in non-school supplied housing, but then they are responsible for rent, insurance, and utilities. Problem there is they have to be at least a junior to qualify for this.

And Pell grants have specific requirements that the vast majority of these kids don't qualify for. Their parents have to earn less than $50k in family income to even qualify, but that's the high end of the spectrum. If your family makes $50k a year in income, you're not going to qualify because they will also look at your stipends and anything else that can be considered contributing to income.

Now if your family makes $40k a year, sure you might qualify for a grant, but you're only going to get maybe $1000 bucks at most.

Your family has to make less than $20k income per year to get the full $5,635 grant.

The kids that go to UGA virtually all have parents who make more than $20k a year. Most likely make more than $50k a year. Meaning most don't qualify.

Yes, these kids get free books, room and board, education, and all the food they could want. But $71 a week spending money ain't shite. They have other bills like cell phones, car gas, car insurance, car maintenance, etc etc. You can't sit here and say their so poor they qualify for Pell grants and then say their parents pay all their other expenses and then give them spending cash for things like clothes, dates with girls, video games, movies, and any other social activities.

As I said, these kids are constantly struggling financially! meanwhile the schools are making millions and millions in profits. PROFITS.

I believe Housing is around $900 a month currently

Pell grant money on average to SEC players is around upper 3,000.

The get paid for travel a few times a year, they get several other needs based scholarships as well. Not everyone gets something, but the majority get something, and many get a significant amount
