correct, Rocker's mo has always been excellent teacher, subpar recruiter.

If this guy is a lights out recruiter we may be improved right off the bat just by having more blue chip elite-level talent to work with. I'm just guessing here btw, I don't really know much about this guy at all. I do know we're now in the mix for a former 4* top 150 DL looking to transfer so that's nice.

Also may have been discussed already but what kind of talent did he have to work with on UNC's DL?

He coached a 3 star up to being good enough to be on the draft boards as a JR.

Sure. I think the question was specifically pertaining to his recruiting prowess. I'd asked the same question elsewhere. I'm not saying he can't do it, I just didn't see any evidence that he *has* done it, at least not as the primary/secondary... not sure what he did while a GA at Ole Miss or who he might have had a hand in but not been attributed to at UNC.

I'm less concerned with the coaching side of things, as I feel like between Smart and Tucker, they would have thrown up the red flag if his coaching was suspect and didn't mesh well with their plans. But if you're throwing out Rocker, it needs to be a pretty significant upgrade... Was just hoping there was some data to back up the claims that he's a great recruiter. So far, haven't seen anything fruitful, but the fact that multiple guys have indicated they're interested in UGA that he'd offered already and the Texas Tech transfer DT is looking are certainly positive signs.

Well he was recruiting at UNC, not exactly known for bringing in top guys. This guy is young, energetic, and personable, he'll do fine, calm down.

The video shows him teaching some good sound technique. So he is at least even there with Rocker. Next up is recruiting and getting the guys he has up for the games and keep them psyched.

His most redeeming quality has to be recruiting considering how many D1 gigs he gets offered for being so young.
Rocker didn't have much success with the lineman during his tenure imo.

Josh Dawson - no all conference mention, undrafted.
Sterling Bailey - no all conference mention, undrafted.
Ray Drew - 5 star, no all conference mention, undrafted.
Chris Mayes - showed more with coaching from Chris Wilson. Seemed to regress with Rocker. Undrafted.
Mike Thornton - no all conference mention, undrafted.
James Deloach - no all conference mention, undrafted.
Toby Johnson - no all conference mention, undrafted.
Michael Barnett - came in a DL prospect but may change positions.
John Atkins - no all conference mention so far. Progress seems to be inline with the previous players mentioned.
Lamont Gaillard - couldn't stick with the DL under Rocker, switched to OL.

Rocker wasn't under performing perse but he was not excelling at all. I don't think a guy coached by Rocker was drafted and that had to be a problem for a dude like Kirby. You can't go for a Solomon and be like yeah none of my players were drafted in 3 years.

I agree with this. Some games our D-Line was decent but most games it was subpar considering the talent in those positions. I'm glad Kirby made a change.

Wow great point. I felt like Chris Wilson was a step up from Garner but due to coaching change he was let go. Then I was excited about Rocker but no one minus Thompson has looked All Conference. At least Garner had the recruiting ability.

It is pretty hard for a 3-4 DL to get all sec accolades.
The linebackers shine in that defense. It is very tough for a 3-4 down lineman to rack up the stats needed.

Yeah but the disclaimer that came with that was he has some "other" earnings beyond just salary. So I would bet he will earn more than Ole Miss was paying him and those "extras" are probably in lump sum form.
