I had a boss several years back who was convinced Google was planning a 1984 style identity takeover. Between Google glass and the privacy issues they've encountered involving emails and servers, the old boss may be on to something.

They're probably building a personality profile on you based on what time of day you listen to certain songs......which they then sell to the Ministry of Homeland Security..

Yes, but that is all done just to protect the Fatherland. Oops, I meant the Homeland. I keep getting the two confused.

“We don’t need you to type at all because we know where you are. We know where you’ve been. We can more or less guess what you’re thinking about … Is that over the line?”

“Google policy is to get right up to the creepy line and not cross it......I would argue that implanting things in your brain is beyond the creepy line … at least for the moment until the technology gets better.

Cmon man. Utorrent takes about 15 seconds to download. Then you go to kickass or demonoid and search for whatever you want. Its literally 3rd grade stuff. And you can build a library that consumes all the memory on your phone and iPad in days

If you pay for songs on the internet you are getting scammed.

After Utorrent is downloaded, just google the band's name then add "discography .torrent", example: "Passafire Discography .torrent"

Be careful. I shite you not, one of my good friends (and fellow lawyer) felt the same way right up to the point he got sued by Roy Orbison's widow for downloading some of Roy's music for free. Roy frickin' Orbison.

After giving him unending loads of shite for the type of music he listens to, I learned that they were just picking random individuals to sue and make examples of and he just got "lucky".

After that he religiously made sure to legally buy any and all songs he downloaded of the webs. It's still a good practice, fwiw.

Someone from the label just takes ip addresses of the connections and notifies the isp. Usually you just get a letter warning you to quit bit one in awhile someone gets made an example. People avoid their ip address being logged by using a proxy.

Just be careful. Theft is theft and there will be no excuse if you get caught. And it's not like it's all that expensive to buy songs. If you can't afford it, don't buy it. Get a job or something.

Seriously- downloading music illegally is just wrong. I agree $1 a song is a lot but stealing in any manner is just wrong.

I have a friend in Germany who paid a fine of 10000 euro because his minor son was downloading movies illegally. His father had no idea. That is some real money for a free movie.....

Okay...so last night I download the free Spotify app and within an hour have about 30 songs lined up...and i then tell my wife that I'm going to spend some money on a Bluetooth speaker...so get ready....she's pretty cheap and I wanted to get this on the table

She then goes inside and brings out a box and says something along the lines of "well I need to give you this now so happy Father's Day"...I open it and it's a Bose mini sound link....which is by far better than what I was looking at. We Fired it up and drank brown liquor on the porch listening to music....which was awesome....even the nineties retro alternative shite that I was dialing up. The sound on that thing is sick BTW.

What are the odds? I normally get shite for Father's Day...this was a huge score...

So I shouldn't say anything about watching sporting PPVs for free on net?

I received a jawbone jambox wireless speaker about 3 or 4 years ago as a gift, and I didn't even know what it was....

But, if the thing stopped working tomorrow, I wouldn't even be pissed....because I've ran it several hours just about every day since I got it dropping it on it's head every day in between.

When it finally gives out, I may look into that Bose model you got.

WOuld the people that are comfortable stealing music on-line have no problem with walking into a record store (if they still existed) and shoving a CD down their pants and walking out the door?

Check out this WSP site. Tons and tons of their live music and under miscellaneous streams most of everyone else usually live and you can't find most of this anywhere else. Downloadable for free and they actively promote that as far as I can tell. Sound quality varies, but some really, really good stuff here from BB to Zappa and back again.

I owe a couple of people some props...

First of all - I've become a Spotify junkie and have God knows how many songs on my list...it's a beautiful thing and thanks for the advice. JD...this means you.

Chef had mentioned Sturgill Simpson in a previous thread and man...that's some good stuff. Thanks for the lead.

I'm open to any further suggestions.....
