Plenty in Augusta too man no worries

My point is the things many people dislike about Atlanta have indeed reached Stone Mountain unfortunately.

The unchecked vagrancy in the ATL is unparalleled in the State.

That's pretty true. I think we're just focusing on any legal impact of the City of Atlanta's council proposal concerning Stone Mountain (and legally, there is NO impact).

You really need to get out more...more blacks live in Dekalb Co alone than live in the city of Atlanta.

It's bad downtown, like by the georgia dome and stuff. But "Atlanta" as a whole isn't NEARLY as bad as people make it out to be. There are some really really nice parts of atlanta, and there are so many young white people moving back into the city. It's no different than any other city, there's good areas and bad. HOnestly I'd feel more safe walking aroudn the dome at 2am on a Saturday than I would walking around bethel homes in Athens.

Lets get real. Its the NAACP trying to push their momentum. It will not work in this case. And there is no cause for concern.

I apologize for sidetracking this discussion. The flag is protected under Georgia law because it is a memorial. Subsequently provisions of the last state flag change protect it at stone mountain.

People say it belongs in a museum which is what stone mountain is. Game set match

Amen.

It's called indoctrination and it's at the root of so many of our problems today. And you're absolutely right....it's how we've come to live in a country that unthinkingly honors and celebrates state secession from Great Britain in 1776, while simultaneiously deeming state secession in 1861 to be a treasonous evil.

I went to public school too. Luckily I was a horrible student though, so they didn't do to much irreversible damage to me. Maybe we should start an GSB de-programming school to help un-brainwash public school victims in need....

Homework Lesson #1: Research the beliefs about race and slavery of the three men on the stone mountain carving.....and then compare them to the beliefs of Abrahama Lincoln, Grant, or Sherman....or any white northerner living at the time. And try not to pull your hair out in frustration at what you discover.

I'm from Stone Mountain and I'm African American and I do not wash windows for 2 dollars. My mother works at Georgia power and I have been in the service 8 years now. The population of the city is at least 60 percent African American.

Growing up there we are taught typically if we see the Confederate Flag to go the other way. We are also taught the history of Stone Mountain. Although disturbing I agree it is important that we as a country know our history.

The issue people have is that that flag does 1 of 3 things in the African American community. Strikes fear, creates anger or gets ignored by people too wrapped up in the distractions of the world.

All this is my opinion to be honest the only flag I would march, fight or die for is the American Flag. I also would use every fiber of muscle in my body to beat the shite out of any piece of shite person who stomps or wipes their arse with the flag.

Never said it wasn't.....not sure how old you are but I was taught much different. I was taught the 6 "S"s and much more. Pussificafion of America is here and won't be going away. We will be teaching how to be give a free job that pays 6 figures in high school very soon. Between history and PE being removed they got plenty of time. I can tell you one thing, my son will be taught different outside the school system by his parents and grandparents. We appreciate that we live in the #3 public school schools, but will compliment their teachings as we see for with real education.

Maybe in certain situations. If you're in bumfrick south georgia and come across a small town of 50 peopele and the flag it flying as you enter, yeah I get that and I'm with ya. Seeing it on a gravesite of a fallen confederate soldier or at a confederate museum or something....c'mon. I would hope that as an adult with a rational brain (and I'm not talking about you specifically, I'm talking in general), people could use context to assess their situation.

quote:

creates anger

anger over what? Does seeing a flag really make you (or others) angry because of slavery which was abolished 150 years ago? Black people (and again AFDawg, I'm not singling you out personally, I'm speaking in general here) do things every day, every hour, every minute that are far more detrimental to society that a piece of cloth. Rape, murder, theft, burglary, drug dealing, absentee fathers, multiple kids out of wedlock, welfare parents, etc are all rampant in the black community. Does that not create anger?

quote:

gets ignored by people too wrapped up in the distractions of the world.

as it should.

There are some people who just want attention. These people at rallys flying the flag and chanting and wearing T-shirts with teh flag marching on capitols....those people are turds. They jsut want to incite the masses and draw attention. For the regular, normal, everyday people who may have that flag in their home or on their car or whatever...it isn't coming from a hateful place.

I flew that flag pretty prominently for many years during my youth, and I assure you it was never even close to a "yeah slavery! Hate blacks! Up with bigotry!" angle, and more about a "I'm from the deep south and I'm damn proud of it" angle. And I imagine many people would say the same.

I was born and raised in south Georgia. My great grandparents, and their parents, were born and raised there and around Jonesboro. All I will say is that I have no problems being identified as a Georgian or a Southerner, but I greatly dislike it when others wear all the bad connotations of those terms, mainly racism, provincialism, ignorance, and extreme self-reliance, as some sort of badge of honor…yeah, I'm looking at you Jefferson. It is funny that you talk about not being indoctrinated when willful ignorance is the first step to being indoctrinated by any cult. It is even funnier that you imagine that nowhere in your life have you benefited from what others have done. This simply doesn't exist in any society, no matter how self-reliant you are.

Having actually lived in and explored other cities outside of Atlanta, the South, and the US, I will tell you that vagrancy in large metropolitan areas is a problem everywhere…because poverty and mental illness are problems everywhere. Shocker, I know. Atlanta has plenty of problems, starting with THE $%^&$% public transportation system in the world, mainly because everyone living outside the perimeter was too terrified to actually let them create a workable grid. That's OK though, they are adding another lane to I-75. That will solve all the problems.

While, I do not think the monument should be changed, I have no problem with them adding other sculptures around the park and at the top to fully encompass all of Georgia's history, not just about 5 years of it.

Well, that’s about the least “patriotic” thing anybody could do if they actually believed in the freedoms that this country is suppose to stand for….

But, let's look at another angle on this…

Indugle me here. This american flag that you're willing to brutally assault another individual over, also happens to…

-symbolize a federal government that sanctioned slavery for nearly 100 years.
-that flew over the northern slave ships that sailed to Africa to purchase blacks from black Africans to bring back to the states to sell into human bondage.
-that was/is flown by the kkk
-that has legalized abortion against the will of the states, of which African american babies are slaughtered at much higher rates than babies of other races.
-that uses blacks as political pawns and enslaves them in an endless cycle of dependence so as to maintain them as their political pawns.
-that has experimented on them like lab rats with clinical syphilis studies, etc
-that incarcerates them at alarming rates compared to other races for non-crimes in the phony drug war.
-that…….etc.etc.
-etc

But, knowing all of this…………..in the year 2015...........your people are afraid of the conquered confederate battle flag of a government that his been gone for 150 years instead????

Wow. Far out.

Y'all be sure to go to the state capital building next year for the unveiling of the Martin Luther King, Jr. statue. By then there may be no more Confederate monuments in the state, and every street in Atlanta and Dekalb County will be named after colored folks.
