Ok, I was just reading that the Atlanta City Council was voting to make changes to it but i didn't think it was in their district. Maybe they were just submitting their ideas to Deal.

1000 Robert E. Lee Blvd
Stone Mountain, GA 30083

Feb. 21, 1958 – Gov. Marvin Griffin signs a bill creating the Stone Mountain Memorial Association, superseding the old Authority.

•Sept. 19, 1958 – Stone Mountain Confederate Memorial, Inc. gives Stone Mountain to the state of Georgia.

The Confederate version of Mt. Rushmore is going to be changed. Only a matter of time.

If I am not mistaken, it is a State Park...so no city has control over it

ETA: The Atlanta City Council is asking GOV Deal to perhaps look into making changes. They have ZERO authority, but are asking Deal to do it

The whining sniveling imbeciles are over-playing their hand on this....

Nevermind the idiocy and hypocrisy of trying to throw certain parts of history down the memory hole.......We are talking about a work of art here. The largest sculpture of it's kind. ON EARTH!

The PC cleansing crusade has finally gone too far. If they push this, it is going to back-fire on them....

I'm cool if they add to it, but removing anything from it will be a huge failure to recognize the history of the South, both the good and bad parts.

I go to the park 3-4 times a week. At least half of the daily users are African American. Never gave a damn to this point.

It isn't a living monument but a historical reference.

It isn't the greatest Georgian's of all time museum.

FWIW...my roomate from UGA (a minority) ran the park for 10 years.

We should just take history out of the schools. I mean, why even teach about WWII and the Civil War??? Those represented horrible events. Let's not remember/learn about the past to educate ourselves on what not to do in the future....

frick this society. Getting waaaaay out of hand

Unless you can explain to the minions wanting to destroy everything they deem supporting slavery, that it's in their best interest to leave those things unchanged, they will continue to call for their demise.

Eventually they'll get what they want because no one has had the ability or the courage to stop them. Even so, our justice system would allow a law suit to progress all the way to the supreme court. And based on their recent rulings they'd still win.

Great point.

The busybodies driving this PC cleansing campaign against Southerners for the most part aren't even black either. And they surely aren't doing it to help blacks.

This whole thing is just part of the continuous war against the Southern people who still remain somewhat to this day as a bulwark to ushering in the yankee progressive heaven on earth utopian dream of nonsense.

Meanwhile....How many black babies do you think were murdered today by their mothers through abortions?...and how many of them that survived birth had a father there?.....and how many of them will go on to be murdered by other blacks when they grow up?...or will be incarcerated at some point? ?

Clearly, this giant carving at stone mountain is to blame!!!! Someone, add a Ludacris or Oprah carving next to it Quick!!!

What a joke.

Why aren't more Southerners fed up and sick of this hypocrisy? Where do we draw the line in the sand?

We don't have a united group (outside the KKK - that is looked down upon) that creates the open forum as the minority. News media doesn't care to publish our thoughts because it's not AS controversial and that's what sells on Tv....

I went there last year for a Boy Scout camping trip with my 9 year old. I took a wrong turn and wound up in the middle of chicken places and braid shops. When my son asked me why the skinny black woman was knocking on our car window asking for $2 I told him to not look at her.

So yes, stone mountain is definately inside Atlanta

You do realize that public school textbooks are part of the reason for all of this, right? Those textbooks are the ones teaching these kids that the Civil War was was almost exclusively about slavery. The Union saw to it long ago that everything associated with the south and their secession would be vilified as punishment.

Uh....no.

And for the record, I believe the giving over of Stone Mountain by the original owners was conditional on it remaining a confederate memorial. If they don't stick to that, I would think there'd be a legal argument over whether or not the land reverts back to the previous owner's family.
