Then kindly explain why Atlanta never funded maintenance and restoration. The roof has leaked for years and the painting is streaked and mildewed.

I recall seeing that on a field trip when I was a kid. May have been late 80's. Thing was really cool. That was when teachers were more concerned with teaching history rather than purging it from our collective memory.

I remember going when I was about 9 or so on a field trip to the cyclorama and I was amazed by it....I think it had something to do with my lifelong interest in history. I am glad it is being restored and put in another place. The last time I went I carried my son when he was 7 and when we left I felt like I was leaving a porn theater....It was a good experience seeing it throuugh his eyes....but being seen leaving the building knowing the loitical climate and the location even then was a little off-putting.

I meant that it's bullshite that we've come to this. I didn't realize that they let it fall into disrepair but don't doubt it. Like most GA kids....going to the zoo and Cyclorama was an exciting day and something I remember fondly. That site and building was perfect so I hate to see it change.

Granted that whole area used to a ghetto - don't know if it still is or not....

Oh well...at least it sounds like they'll restore the painting...
